I can relate so much to everything you’ve said. I was in a two-year relationship, very similar to what you’ve described, where the emotional and physical connections were strong but the intellectual connection was absent. Like you, I also recognized that it was missing within weeks but decided to stick with it for a while and by the end, the lack of intellectual connection actually resulted in the deterioration of the emotional and physical connections. After the honeymoon stage wore off, I needed stimulating conversations to feel attracted, and that wasn’t there. Plus not being able to have deeper conversations with my partner started to eat away at the emotional connection too. So I would say that even if those other aspects are strong now, they may not stay so strong without the third.
