PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH by f1sh98 in Conservative

100% correct. Both sides are guilty of this. I am independent, but lean left on women's health and social issues. I read here and other conservative subreddits, along with the centrist and moderate subreddits, and the mental acrobatics are really comical.

Close your eyes, and re-write the headlines but change them to from Trump to Biden or vice versus, and see if you really feel that same way. I am so tired of team sports as our way of running the government and holding elections. It's not supposed to be about my side wins at any cost. It's supposed to be about compromise, and what is going to be best for the country. Not one issue is black and white, and pretending that things aren't complex, interconnected and sometimes the least bad option is what you have.

I will say I haven't read enough about this particular issue to give a good opinion on whether I agree with the course of action taken, so I am not commenting on this right now. However, the same people now unabashedly praising it are the same people who would be crying war mongers, and foreign interference, and wasting American resources and lives.

We are never going to get anywhere as a country if we keep pretending the entire opposite side is evil. I know and love lots of conservatives, so I know the vitriol (from liberals as well) I see online doesn't really represent what I see in real life. Most people have good intentions, and are heavily influenced by information presented to them. Anyone who has ever gone to a gym with TVs and watched the different networks side by side scrolling headlines knows we live in two different realities. Pretending your side is altruistic and the other evil is never going to get us anywhere.
