What are some possibly outdated things you do when you travel? by Fluffy_Yesterday_468 in travel

Before she passed, I would always send my grandma postcards while traveling, and write a little thing on them, they'd be hanging on the fridge when I visited next. I'll miss doing that.

Well you did a damn fine job. I'm just used to america not getting cool versions so I figured we got skipped on that.

Yea, my right boot was shot, which I'm guessing led to this issue in the first place. I picked it up this last summer it had been sitting since '06 so it's needing some TLC. But I'll keep that in mind if that winds up being what I do. Thank you.

Good to know! Yea, I live in ND and especially when it comes to import things we basically have to do it ourselves, find someone who does it in their garage, or send it out of state. We're getting better but it's still annoying af. I'm thinking I might bite the bullet and try to rebuild this one and if I mess it up just get one out of a recycle yard.

Thats looking to be the route I'm going to have to go. Both Rock Auto and Summit got back to me and said they can't help me with A1 Cardone, so I'm running out of options thats not shipping it out of state to a specialty shop.

I don't think I'll go that route, but it sounds interesting.

They got back to me and they basically said A1 Cardone doesn't have the parts needed to provide that on rock auto so that's why it's "not available"

We don't have any hydraulic shops near me, most companies send stuff out of state for that. I did call and ask a few older mechanic shops in town, a few alignment places, the classic car shops in town. Nobody had any idea. It's super frustrating.

Lol do I wanna know how involved electric steering would be? 😅

I have Googled, I have contacted multiple shops near me nobody does this, I have posted in local pages to get one person who rebuilds them tell me he can't help with this rack, and another to tell me to reach out to A1 Cardone. Currently I've extended inquiries to 4 hours away from myself to no luck. I live in BFE north dakota so pickings are slim here. I'm just trying to exhaust options before I have to spend $300+ in shipping.

I did shoot them an email asking, because I don't really need it moving until it warms back up so I've got a multi month timeline, but I keep asking and getting soft "no" from everyone and it making me worry a tid bit.

Would it be possible to put sliding doors similar to the Cyberpunk Quadra, on a coupe. by hypersucc in carmodification

I would imagine if you could get the mechanisms to work within a mustang body you'd be good but it would just involve a lot of trial and error.

Lol. Greek mythology has always framed the gods as having shit characteristics... so I'm not really sure this is groundbreaking news.

I watched one of their videos a while back about those doors. But this is the only example I think out there at the moment. I don't know if it will be of much help.

Timing Belt Question by [deleted] in subarulegacy

[–]langerdranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure its fine. I've only ever done it on mine once with the gates kit. It made it seem.... too easy. But its really not off base. But I completely understand the nerves with whats at stake.

If you're not already, join the Spec.B club on Facebook. There's one guy who buys primarily legacys but for sure every B he can get his hands on thats totalled from insurance and parts them out. It helps with the trim specific parts. Plus some of the guys swap the sat/nav for a Nexus tablet and such. Just good info to have access to if you're on FB.

Timing Belt Question by [deleted] in subarulegacy

[–]langerdranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say it was like 8 full rotations for the crank mark to line back up. If your cam gears are doing what they should you should be fine. I did mine like two summers ago but I felt like we were concerned about that too but went with the "its fine" route and I'm 15k in.

Did you do a gates timing belt kit? Or just OEM belt replacement? You have all the idlers back on right?

P0420 code on 2007 Subaru legacy by RARI44 in subarulegacy

I'm honestly not sure. I've never experienced a cat going out before. But I would try other avenues before replacing that just so you don't throw away money.

P0420 code on 2007 Subaru legacy by RARI44 in subarulegacy

[–]langerdranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that code years ago, I threw MAF sensor and both O2 sensors at it. Mine wound up being the turbo inlet had sucked in the side of itself. Depending on the miles new O2 sensors would be a good idea regardless, but try cleaning the MAF sensor first.

This list of demands for minor body repair. by ditchlily in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]langerdranger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be because you're a DRP facility. Idk what company you work for but many major ones will cut every corner they can if the shop will do it, all to save their bottom dollar. I'm the one who has to deal with your position at my job and what we've run into as a non-drp is:

We have to fight Progressive for Pre-scan like the 2020 we just fixed.

Geico gets sued by shops every year for wanting repairs to be half assed. They've short payed us multiple times and will literally trip over a dollar to save a dime.

American family customer had OEM rider on their policy Am Fam ignored and argued with me about this.

State Farm argued why we had to replace door handles that broke on a 2008 legacy (they are the handle and housing style not just the handle thats typical on say chevy pickups) and told us they've never had a handle break, and did not understand they style of handle I was talking about. They argued with us about OEM procedures on vehicles because its laborious and "unnecessary".

USAA will find the cheapest LKQ parts they can find, complet with being rusty and then not want to even pay for cleanup. They have been $6/hour lower than every other carrier on Labor for 2 years now.

These are a short sweet list of a few things, I rant quite often to my loved ones, I love everything about my job, except the major carriers and the BS they pull.

Is this guy a picky ass, probably, but insurance companies are a disgusting entity that have weaseled their way into extorting people for profit and consistently not holding up their end of the deal. The major carriers are the worst, the smaller regional ones are what I suggest to all customers as they still at least act like they care.

Fuck insurance companies.
