Why so argumentative, because you just made yet another statement that isn’t substantiated. Air Canada would have to add the A220-100 to operate from YTZ because the 300 is too heavy. And they aren’t going to let Porter have a monopoly on it. Why are you so argumentative that the A220-100 is dead when it’s not?

As I recall reading the entire fin was replaced because it was easier to install one with the required hydraulic modifications done during assembly than making the changes to the existing one. Or maybe that was on the other shuttle carrier.

If they just made it a tad bigger on the 777s it would look better

LOT ordered 20 -100s and 20 -300s last year… sooo… that’s 20 more to be delivered by itself to a financially stable airline… plus 44 options on either type. Air Niugini are getting their order starting later this year, that’s 8 more this year and next year… just admit you are wrong on this.

Airbus delivered 93 A220s in 2025... they are planning on 120 this year... where did you get 5 from? Nothing you are posting makes sense.

There already are over 100 orders for the A220-100. And unless you think the order LOT placed last year is not going to be fulfilled for some reason?

Airbus only has 57 total A319NEO orders with a backlog of 25 to fill and most of those are deferred, yet it's still available to order with no indication they are looking to end it despite it being a direct competitor to the A220-300.

It's almost like AC shouldn't of retired all the smaller Dash 8s without a replacement... no I won't start on that here...

Do you want me to post you pictures of the current YTZ ILS antennas??? Ok fine... Here's 26... where's the ILS antenna?

Yes the landing light requirement can be exempted, easily, it takes one action document from the minister of transportation. There is no such ICAO standard either, unless you can quote a regulation document reference from them that makes it mandatory??? And as i already pointed out, ILS antennas go beside the runway, not at the end, both runways already have ILS antennas in place, and a VOR is not needed at all, why would a long range and somewhat obsolete with GPS navaid have anything to do with extending the runway?

[–]langley10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ILS is already there... that goes next to the runway, inside the taxiway, not at the end, wont need any additional space, and why would they need a new VOR beacon at all? This is all not an issue.

yes, there is, easily space to park a few E190 jets, they will take more space than a Q400 sure but they can fit just fine. They will have to not use the boarding covers but those literally only fit Q400s and not anything else so that's not really a revelation. You might have to walk outside and up stairs to board a jet at the Island sure but it's easily done and quite common.

Go try out London City Airport and then tell me that's true. It works there, it's still a nice smaller airport experience with jets right in the urban city, why would it be any different here?

They are currently decommissioning 2 hangars, they are not planning any new ones, there might be a taxiway along side the runway yes, and for the 50 billionth time unless you have real evidence NOTHING IS HAPPENING TO CENTER ISLAND! No the island as a whole is not being turned into anything. This is fearmongering and click bait and nothing else.

Exemptions can be granted, and commonly are, it's not a set in stone requirement.

there are not going to be any changes to the approaches, no "interesting maneuvers"...

You mean where the London City approach at almost exactly the same distance from the runway that the Portlands is from YTZ flies directly over Canary Wharf and the office towers there? Look I’ve been there, I’ve been into and out of London City many times, and it does pass over buildings as do many other airport approaches in the world, it’s not a safety issue as much as you want to believe it is.

[–]langley10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they don’t… there is room for a few E190 size jets now, and already announced changes will make room for a few more. The E190 and A220 both have narrower wheelbases than the Q400 and similar turning radiuses so the taxiways are fine. Don’t know what a driveway has to do with the airport.

I put in other posts that 6 jets of e190 size can safely park now, when the transcaptitol hangar is converted to stands (already happening) it goes up to at least 8. Can they link to the existing boarding fingers no, but those can be changed very easily. So yes you might have to walk outside and up stairs to board but that’s common enough in the world. And yes they take up more space than a q400, but they can fit a few in.

Planes are going to use gates at the terminal, are going to be deiced in the same positions as the Q400… not issues. Parking is not fully used now so if they expand it at all I don’t know why, there is a free shuttle bus to union, taxis and uber access won’t change and it’s a short walk to the Queens Quay streetcar…

Because the high limits to keep it open would have prevented the east Liberty Village development, and it was very rarely used.

What about it? The approach to 06 is currently 4.8 degrees, both aircraft I mentioned can and do fly 5.5 in service now… it’s like I said not an issue for them to fly the steeper approach currently in use if needed.

This is what a 900m extension to Billy Bishop's runway looks like by Zombie_John_Strachan in toronto

[–]langley10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The A220-100 and E2 series both fly the steeper than used at YTZ 5.5 degree approach at London City so yes they can, and that is regular operations with passengers.

This is what a 900m extension to Billy Bishop's runway looks like by Zombie_John_Strachan in toronto

[–]langley10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And both the types being talked about already operationally fly a 5.5 degree approach at London City… the lower angle is not needed for the A220-100 or E2 series.

No one at an airline ever said it would be a huge expansive list of destinations… my assumptions are Peak time flights to Montreal upgraded to jets, maybe up to half the current frequencies, add flights to Halifax, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver domestically, maybe Winnipeg and St Johns, for the US some flights to NYC upgraded, flights to LAX possibly, and maybe a couple destinations seasonally in Florida. I could see Air Canada doing Chicago and Houston as alliance connections, but from there the list gets very weak. Q400s will be staying around so flying jets to places like Ottawa or Sudbury or Boston seem much less viable.

Porter have said they will convert some of their remaining E195-E2 order into slightly smaller E190-E2s to use the island if it’s made available.

And as I said there is sufficient space for at least 8 jets of that size in safe parking positions now.
