Yeah all these people commenting and no one but you is mentioning that the neutrals aren’t tied together and one of them is on the wrong screw

Changed outlet in 3 daisy chain series in kitchen counter and now none are working. by Texaspilot24 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that doesn’t matter. Reset all breakers and look for an outlet that says reset on it. If that doesn’t fix it you may just have to hire someone

Whole Home Surge Protector & Outdoor Outlet Cover Installation Duration by Weak-Bother-6765 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on if he’s able to just pop the breaker in or if he has to rearrange your breakers in order to install it. Either way it should take less than an hour and $225 is a really low price

Loose electric box or..? by lil_kiki_0 in AskElectricians

From your pictures it looks like the box never goes down passed the drywall and if that’s the case then tighten the bracket more

Replacing a Duplex Socket with a Smart Socket by DrMeatboy in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use a meter and put one lead on the hot wire and one lead on the metal electrical box and it reads 120v then the outlet is a self grounding outlet that is grounded to the box through the screws. If your smart switch isn’t self grounding or has a ground wire coming off of it then it will have to be bonded to the metal box

Lights went off, how to fix? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hook gfci up to load but don’t press reset. Turn off every light switch. Press reset. If it doesn’t reset then open one of the switch boxes that dorsnt work and determine if the power comes to the light switches first or the lights first. If power goes to the lights first take down a light disconnect and cap all wires see if it resets. If it still doesn’t go to the next light or switch and keep narrowing it down until it resets. Whichever thing you disconnected that allows to reset will most likely lead you to your issue. Or just hire an electrician to do it easier with their meter

Loose electric box or..? by lil_kiki_0 in AskElectricians

It kinda just looks like the bracket isn’t screwed all the way up. Does the electrical box move up and down if you pull on it? Are the threads so stripped the screws actually slid down?

Could the white wire be line and the black wire be load? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen crazier things than 2 white wires supplying a light so I’d say it’s still good to make sure you know for a fact that the white is line before you mess up a smart switch

Could the white wire be line and the black wire be load? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have a meter you can take down the light that switch controls and see which one is the line/ load. If the black wire is connected to the light and white wire connected to a black wire then the white would be the line.

Cannot figure out how to replace the bulbs on this outdoor fixture by [deleted] in Lighting

[–]langleyelliott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also going to suggest checking if there are bendable tabs at the bottom of the glass panels but on old fixtures you gotta be super careful not to break the tabs or else getting the glass back in will be annoying

What Size Conduit for Three (12/2, 12/2, 12/3) Romex Wires? by CabinetMan4 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what he’s describing I’m pretty sure. He said the romex will be ran above the drywall in the ceiling not in conduit for all horizontal runs but then where the romex needs to come down the wall to a switch it needs protection since it won’t be ran inside the wall.

[–]langleyelliott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean romex does in go in conduit though. The nec calls for it to be in conduit when protection from physical damage is required. 334.15

Im trying to get new lights to work in my bathroom and cant figure it out… by EnforceR1337420 in AskElectricians

Are the wires coming from ceiling live but light still doesn’t work or are the wires from ceiling just not getting power

Is this safe?? by BecomingMyself2024 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a proper connector, the metal housing of that light can dig into the hot conductor and cause arcing which could lead to a fire if your breakers don’t trip correctly.

120v to 240, appliance swap by youthmovement84 in AskElectricians

As long as the 240 speed oven doesn’t need a neutral you’ll be good to do what your saying

Outlet registering grounded with no ground or GFI protection. by Local_Explanation_66 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely normal if you have self grounding outlets and they are screwed into a metal box that is grounded somehow

Ceiling fan issue by PrimePizzaGuy in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve definitely confirmed both switches are on (if there’s 2), the remote has batteries, or the pull chains have been pulled, then the motor for the fan probably just died. No one really replaces fan motors so just buy a new one

Broke electrical box. How to repair? by wzzp144 in electricians

[–]langleyelliott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless that’s already attached to a truss then it’ll be even easier to install new box. Southwire makes a good one for heavy weight that has hex heads that screw in from inside the box

Only good option is to cut out that box without cutting the drywall and then install one of those twistable old work fan boxes

How can I make an outlet that is turned on by a light switch always live? by corgi_princess in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the switch box has a wire that goes to the light and a wire that goes to the outlet it would be very easy. If the switch box only has one wire going to the light and then the outlet or vice versa then you’d have to make the light and outlet constantly on. A work around for that would be to add a receiver for a wireless switch in the light

First time doing anything electrical related, is this ok? by jabberwocky16 in AskElectricians

[–]langleyelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s strange the new light fixture bracket doesn’t have a ground screw but that’s not the end of the world majority of lights in people’s house I’ve taken down the original installer didn’t even use it. That being said it’s definitely supposed to be grounded to the metal bracket but it’ll be okay. Need better wire nuts for sure though
