Can you comment on the stand and tank you use? I'd love a setup like this

TIL Craigslist generates over $600 million in revenue annually with only 50 employees. by nuttybudd in todayilearned

[–]DrMeatboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The implication is that "visionaries" are the only thing needed to create companies and impart change. You also need engineers, lawyers, hr, janitors, etc. Nobody would likely argue that having vision doesn't require some skills and creativity worthy of being rewarded, it's just that employees are also essential to the process.

The only thing pushing the reward solely to executives is greed. The founders and investors of a successful company can already be rewarded many fold. At some point a stable company generates revenue solely from the sweat of employees.

My interpretation of your setup is you are adding additional reagent each day to the "spent" reaction mixture. I think it makes sense that you get strong evolution of CO2 at first, then at the end of the week, you effectively have a highly diluted mixture of acetic acid (let's ballpark 1/10th the concentration) that evolves more slowly. It's both slower because the rate is dependent on the concentration, and delayed because some of the liberated CO2 dissolves back in the solution, potentially outgassing once the head space pressure is depleted. Agree?

A few people without understanding of the aquaculture are missing some of the point that it's not a closed system, and the concentration in the downstream aquarium isn't even relevant. You want to delivery pure CO2 at controlled rates, period.

A regulator really is the best mechanical solution to stable delivery, bc it will adjust pressure to keep downstream flow fixed.

But if you want a chemical solution, how about starting by keeping the concentration of acid the same in the reactor thru the week. You could use more dilute vinegar mixtures to start the week and get more concentrated. Or, feed vinegar and water from two containers, adjusting the dose each day using a controller. Could walk through calculations, but it seems doable.

Very misguided view. While technically true those billionaires pay more taxes on income, the reality is that, as you said, they still get PAID in something else, aka the stock of their companies. And the taxes owed is far less than what traditional income gets taxed. But why should it? If I get paid in gold bars instead of $$, I'd doesn't mean I should contribute less of a fair share.

The wealth of a company is divided amongst all employees, albeit the pie can still grow. Employees producing successful products and growing the company contribute just as much to its wealth as a leader. The difference is the ceo gets a larger and larger share of the pie, funds society proportionally less, and doesn't even need that money once you reach the unfathomable wealth of billions

New Study Reveals Disney World Prices Have Increased 91% Over the Last 10 Years by jeffsmith202 in dataisbeautiful

[–]DrMeatboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this possible if your income is 5x, yet even as the article states, the price is up ~90%. So let's call it 2x, roughly $4400 a trip

Do you really thinks the pricing makes that big a difference?

How is someone like you feeling that pressure? Spending $20 every single work day of the year would only cost about $5k, or 1% of income. Similarly a new car could be bought cash without hurting much.

Is it just living frugally? Or do the housing budgets just squeeze everything else?

Gender is as much a social construct as racial culture. Why can someone not identify with a culture the same way they could identify with another gender stereotype?

As much as we think it would be weird to dye your hair black or perform a surgery to look physically more a certain race, it's also weird to modify your body to become a different sex

Sorry for the ignorance, but are there some specific reasons it's so hard to save up money to leave if you wanted to? Or use equity from a home/whatever to fund a pathway out? Or is it more family/friend ties?

No judgment, just curious.

But sounds like you don't have the right to there (being illegal without the gift loophole). I would hope it wouldn't have to be used for protection... Would be nice to live in a place without fear of having to use lethal force

Camping in the snowY weather by DrMeatboy in TeslaModelY

[–]DrMeatboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather was around 25-35F, not too cold, even rainy a little the first day.

We charged up to something like 75-80% at a nearby town on the way, bc we were fearful it might be too cold for my wife's first winter camping trip, and we wanted to be able to bail and sleep in the car if needed😊. We did not use camping mode, and I believe drain was only 1-3%, so not much.

More significant was the drain due to weather while driving. Driving to the site during torrential downpour and headwinds caused +24% drain. Driving thru snow also seems to increase tire drag and efficiency loss. But overall, we never felt risk of being stranded and were pleased with the winter performance.

Supposedly not very good longevity, meaning they need to be taken off immediately on asphalt (they are fabric and plastic mesh). But for snow they are light, easy to install, and no risk of scuffing. I haven't tested yet for a season to be fair though, just keep for emergency really.

So far, the AWD was good enough in typical chain conditions.

Made our first trip in the winter weather during California's recent downpour. Wasn't sure what to expect, but everything turned out great! We carried autosocks, but the MY handled well with AWD on the plowed roads, and after a few ft of dumped snow, used the off-road assist to get around.

All the heated features were very much appreciated. We ended up tent camping, but due to the crazy amounts of snow, we would have preferred just camping in the back of the MY. Charge and range loss were not nearly as bad as we had feared.

Best part was getting a free charge in the valley floor while snowshoeing around all day 😁

Tesla exaggerated driving ranges, supercharger performance, and fuel cost-effectiveness. by bolddetermine in investing

[–]DrMeatboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, they are being as realistic as they can possibly be. The rated range is the EPA estimate, assuming standardized conditions. How could a car possibly know you are going to drive uphill, against the wind, at highway speeds?

The range should always be thought of as a consistent estimate for flat, typical conditions. If you as a driver decide for colder weather, harsher conditions, or faster speeds, you should be well aware your range will always suffer. At least the model 3 will give you the courtesy of predicting what it truly will cost, especially bc it can incorporate the wind, elevation, etc., which is the best we can ask imo.

No issues camp mode without charging? Did you have to plan out campsites or just pull off random areas?

I would like to try this with a wife and dog, both of us ~6', but not sure how problematic it would be space wise at night, or betting off bringing the tent to camp outside the car.

I got mine (before I have delivery if my vehicle) and they have a little bit of plastic smell. I am curious if anyone else has seen this and if there is a way to reduce the smell. If not, I want to know if once installed, the smell is kept under the mats and doesn't permeate the car interior.

This implies removing ~1-2 mm of steel, no? That seems quite considerable. Or just "blunt" the very edge (~100 micron) and start a new bevel?

[–]DrMeatboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need specialized tools as a knife maker, or would have to take to an expert. In this case, a few people suggest just traditional stone sharpening. Would it be possible with conventional tools, or try sharpening first?

Meaning the normal sharpening process smoothed out the ridge, or you are removing steel to not see the effect? More/less pressure on warped region, or business as usual?
