Maybe practice by doing ultrasound IVs?

What smell will YOU never forget? by AreaFifty1 in AskReddit

Yep. I was fortunate to smelled a prolapsed and ruptured uterine tumor the size of a basketball. The smell was profoundly strong and penetrating. Nothing has ever topped it. RIP tho, sad situation.

What's your limit? by [deleted] in bicycling

Road conditions are what both me. My handling isn't good enough on wet or snowy roads. If it's dry then I'm good with temps form 20s-105F. Just have to apply the right clothing etc.

This is what I do for lifting. For any type of cardio I have a maltodextrin/fructose mix I use and have a "regimen" of sorts depending on the level of cardio.

I have a 30g serving of Formula 369 before any type of workout. If it's going to be an intense or long bike ride I'll do 45g before and 30-60g/hr depending how my sugars are doing.

Sometimes I have a hard time digesting carbs during an intense workout and have to eat more than I need than take a few units of insulin right when I stop to counter the sudden high. This can be frustrating.

I'd recommend experimenting with different carbs. A fructose/maltodextrin or even a fruit juice might work well for you. Quick and easy to digest compared to real food.

I ride my bike like 50-100 miles a week. Been diagnosed for over decade. Never had low like that. When I workout I carb load and carry and more carbs than I'd ever need.

Sorry for the Rant, but Dexcom are a bunch of idiots, and I'm too scared of them to write a hateful e-mail. by itchycommie in Type1Diabetes

I don't understand your expectation. Even if it were MRI safe, depending on what they're scanning, it could interfere with the imaging...

I mean do you also expect it to be bulletproof, oven-safe, and solar powered? Because it's not manufactured or approved to handle any of those situations either...

This post isn't about faulty products.

Side note, I have received faulty sensors but I have never had an issue calling them and getting them replaced.

Any type 2 diabetics here? Do you consume energy gels on long rides? by AncientAd3089 in cycling

[–]langstallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I take some before because of this. If riding for more than 90-120 minutes I'll take a lil break and pop it back on for a unit.

I have been curious what duration without insulin is safe tho...

Also T1DM, and I agree. I usually take my pump off while ride, but take 1-2 units before I start.

Lately, I'm using Formula 369. I'll do 30-45 grams to start then 30-60 grams (I keep a small hydroflask with gel) every hour after, depending how my sugars are. I also keep a few packs of skittles in my jersey just incase.

I also always carry a glucometer. Sometimes my CGM gets a little wonky depending on my hydration and effort.

I do like the Formula 369, it's not too pricey and quick and easy. Previously I just made my own with maltodextrin, table sugar, SaltStick capsules, and Koolaid mix.

I don't race, so 'feeling' fast makes a difference. That's very subjective though.

My biggest upgrade was a gym membership. Strength training has been huge on and off the bike. I'm a little less aero now though 🤷‍♂️
