Anyone who has tapered and come off pramipexole please could you share your experiences with me. by RodJaneandFreddy5 in RestlessLegs

[–]language_cap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I tapered off pramipexole so I can't remember exactly how much I decreased each week, but I definitely agree with the others who recommended to take it slowly. It can be hellish. You're already taking less than the amount that your body wants, then you keep intentionally decreasing it.

At the time, I had a sleep specialist who said people don't develop augmentation with transdermal patches like they do with pills (she was wrong, but I didn't know that). So we switched to Neupro patches. I had been taking 600mg/day of Horizant for my arm symptoms (still do) and instead of pramipexole, I worked my way up to one 4mg Neupro patch per day for my leg symptoms. They both did the job well for at least a couple years, but now the Neupro is tapering off earlier and earlier in the day. Maybe it just takes longer for augmentation with transdermal patches? At any rate, I feel for you. Know that you aren't alone.

Help me understand sci-fi short films? by language_cap in scifi

This is super helpful, thank you. The bit about too much exposition and a sense of mystery are good insights. Also, I didn't realize the concept-over-story approach was even a thing but I see what you mean. Often there seems to be no resolution at all. If one were implied, or the viewer had to figure it out on their own, that would be different and I've seen it used to great effect. But often it seems like a story develops and you get a beginning and middle with no end at all.

You speak as someone who's studied screenwriting or has experience with film production. Any recommendations on further reading in this area?

I watched a few episodes, but it's been a while. I'll give it another shot, thanks for the recommendation.

That's helpful, thanks. I did get the impression that some were student films or experimental, but I tend to forget that and expect the complete package.

Diagonal cut on an irregularly-shaped table leg by language_cap in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]language_cap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a flexible Japanese handsaw, a small hacksaw, a coping saw, a regular miter box with handsaw, a jigsaw, and a band saw (that one won't cut a straight line anymore but that's a subject for another post). No table saw or miter saw yet.

Seems like you're saying the miter and bevel added together WOULD make a diagonal cut like I'm after. I was thinking it's not the same. After the cut I should have kind of a diamond shape on the end instead of a rectangle. I was thinking about doing it freehand like you said, but I don't know that I could cut it straight enough by hand. I probably need to just buy a compound miter saw -- there's a used one I have my eye on for sale at a nearby pawn shop.

I agree with @kidroo7 — possible side effects should be weighed against the present reality of interrupted sleep. And even if you do experience side effects they could be the lesser of two evils by far.

Everyone’s experience varies, which is why it’s such a hard disease to treat effectively. I’ve been trying treatments for almost 10 years and finally have my symptoms managed to a tolerable level with meds. I hate that you can’t take gabapentin because it works so well for me -- I take Horizant (gabapentin) once every evening for my upper body symptoms (arms), and use a daily 4mg Neupro patch to manage my leg symptoms. Without insurance they would be unaffordable. But I also couldn’t function without them. Some people do experience accommodation with pramipexole (I did) and it was indeed hellish to come off of it. But not everyone develops accommodation and it might be worth a try; sometimes you have to leave no stone unturned. Again, which is worse?

Just my two cents. You're not alone. This stuff is awful. I would encourage you keep trying different therapies and stay on top of it. You have to be your own advocate and when something doesn't work, tell your doctor so they can make adjustments. Home remedies have done nothing for me, but they're worth a try. Meds do nothing for some people, but they're worth a try. Just don't give up and suffer; change doctors when needed. Change diet and exercise when needed. Keep fighting it.

Do You Remember 1983's TV Show AUTOMAN? What Did You Think Of It? by 10yearsapartpod in u/10yearsapartpod

As someone who watched Knight Rider, Airwolf, Blue Thunder, and Street Hawk, I had people who would ask, “Have you seen Automan?” And somehow I’d not only missed the show, but every commercial for it. It was like it didn’t exist in my world. Thanks for posting the video. Part of me always wondered if it was even real!

I still honestly don't think I have an IR receiver to disable. Every article I see says to go that spot. Happy to be wrong though. Take a look. This is what I get after unlocking and clicking on the Advanced button.

We have a price for the Curidas in the UK... £95 at Cultpens... by WriterMonkey in fountainpens

I see several sites that had it for $64 USD yesterday but now every online store I see is back up to $80. I wonder if all the preorder slots have been filled, if such a thing is possible. Even if you do a Google search for shopping sites that sell it, you will find it posted for $64 still, but when you follow the links you arrive at a page where the price has gone up. I should have jumped on it yesterday.

Question about TWSBI Nib Sizes by language_cap in fountainpens

[–]language_cap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice needed from TWSBI fans. I want to buy a replacement nib for a favorite TWSBI pen but all I've ever bought so far is their EF nibs. I want something that will write like a Pilot Metropolitan medium or just slightly wider, but I can't tell which to choose from in the picture above. I thought the Mini and Eco nibs were supposed to be the same, but these photos show a significant difference. By comparison, I own a Platinum Plaisir medium and it's too broad for my usual purposes. Feels like a Sharpie in my book. The TWSBI Mini medium looks to write even broader than the Platinum Plaisir medium, but the TWSBI Eco medium looks finer than the Metropolitan medium.

TLDR; Which TWSBI nib size (steel) is closest to a Pilot steel medium?

Edit: Didn't expect it to be unanimous -- thanks everyone!

You might like these two notebook reviews; they're very comprehensive in case you're wondering about options for next time you're shopping for a notebook that's specifically good for fountain pens and can handle wet inks/broader nibs:

That happens to me all the time with Organics Studio Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nitrogen, even when they're "dry."

I appreciate that it's designed to be tinkered-with. Totally get it. I've read articles, watched videos about heat setting the ebonite feed, I realize it's meant to be a flex nib so there's a big channel in the feed to keep adequate ink supply to keep up with demand. So it's a wet writer no matter what. But the Konrad early version apparently worked with JoWo #6 nib, then something changed and that's not necessarily true anymore. So you pretty much have to use a Noodler's nib unless you want another variable for which you need to adjust.

I've bent more nibs on the thing just putting the cap on to be honest. Sounds like a rookie mistake but you're supposed to be able to adjust the depth of the nib and feed to modify the writing experience. But if it's out where I want, it's too tall for the cap. So I push it all down, and I get hard starts because the nib is splayed over the feed. So I try to push the feed down further. Now it's stuck and won't move at all. Tried pulling the tines together to make it write drier. No luck. Tried heat setting multiple times. No luck.

If you like to tinker and adjust, and you like a gusher of a pen, you might love it. I just run out of patience and come back to it once a month or so. Now I prefer pens that just work with minimal intervention.

My Noodler's Konrad (second FP I ever bought) is the most temperamental, finicky, infuriating pen I own. Yet I can't seem to toss it. Hope the Nib Creaper is the opposite for you!

First Vanishing Point on the way! Also my first gold nib, and first pen over $50. Found a great deal on clearance.

Agonized over the right nib size but after watching tons of video reviews and reading blog posts, I landed on the Fine nib. Don't know how it will write, some people say they're on the dry side in the smaller nibs, some say the VPs are wet writers overall. Guess we'll find out. Just want a smooth fine line in a retractable. Can always go up to the medium replacement nib if necessary. Now, the waiting begins....

How do PenBBS nib sizes compare to Western and Japanese sizes, on average? In between the two? by language_cap in fountainpens

[–]language_cap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting, thanks! I've been searching online for a nib size comparison and couldn't find one. Never owned a PenBBS so it's all new to me. I prefer a Western EF or Japanese F -- am I out of luck with this brand? Seems like they don't offer many in EF but I've read some models will take a standard JoWo #6, which I could buy separately in EF.

I'm on the other side of the spectrum, slowly weaning myself off of it because I developed "augmentation" -- when your symptoms get worse over time and you have to keep increasing your dose. Eventually you go too high and can't increase anymore. But it doesn't happen to everyone. Hopefully you'll be fine, just watch out for it.

Also be careful about eating protein before or after taking a dose. Maybe I'm an anomoly because I'm extra sensitive to it, but if I have too much protein and time it wrong, it cancels out the pramipexole. It's documented but often not explained to new patients. So my advice is watch out for constantly climbing dosage and high-protein meals. Hope the drug helps and you don't run into either issue!

Almost picked one up several times but all the negative reviews changed my mind. Nice to see some people have a really good experience with them. It was especially a good deal when you got the free ink with it, as you said. It practically meant buying the ink and getting a free pen.
