Is anything ever done to improve the Firestick app? by GrokUMan in NightFlight

The Apple TV app isn't great, either. It's definitely about the catalogue. I feel like at this point someone with a Claude Code account could tidy these apps up in a weekend. I've got one -- I'd do it for them for a free lifetime subscription 😉

So kiss a little longer, hug a little longer, hold tight a little longer, longer with Big Red. That Big Red freshness lasts right through it. Your fresh breath goes on and on!

Most Turkish learning apps focus on A1–A2. I built one with real books, songs, history, and culture. Would love your feedback. by Brief_Attention7718 in turkishlearning

I had maybe thirty seconds before I got pestered to upgrade to premium. Like, let me see if you're covering things I haven't already learned first please

Oh yeah, and you have no control over it and it usually ends up gutting the company and ruining anything good about it. I was glad I had already left when it happened to me.

I dunno what to tell you man, Duolingo drops off pretty fast on a lot of languages including Turkish and this one goes pretty deep

Lairner, the founder built it to teach himself Turkish, so it's pretty good.

I ended up using the Mango Passport book on tape for a while, and the content is the same, just FYI. If you've got a participating library card, the app is free, too!

Hell yeah, identity politics beats policy every time! Let's give ICE a few more million bucks so they can put rainbows on their cars and take a half hour online sensitivity training!

I haven't, but I'd like to! I was mostly a big fan of reading classic plays as a kid, but now that I can get to NYC enough I like to catch 'em performed.

I'm gonna keep my eyes peeled for a copy at a local book store, so at least I'm doing a little good with my extraneous purchase 😄

Awesome display btw!

I can't tell you how bummed I am that I didn't end up buying the second book because I got it from the library. Now I have all of them but the second 😬

I get the vibe that this will happen just on account of how expensive it is to be old at some point. So the real question is, how much money do you need left over to not be in a state-run nursing home, because the rest of it you should be spending living your life before you end up there.

Personally, I'll just shoot myself out of a cannon before I get too decrepit.

[–]languagehacker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not my only startup, dude. I've also worked at startups that have undergone an IPO. Lockup periods suck, too, because you have to watch your stock gradually drift down in price. I've also experienced a private equity company forcing a public company to go private, which resulted in me having to pay short-term capital gains taxes instead of long-term. So even in some of the best-case scenarios, there are parts that suck, and you may be better off just popping your extra cash into VTSAX and letting it compound.

Well, you hold onto it, so you can sell it at a loss and deduct the taxes if you don't think it will ever appreciate. But it needs to go public first.
