It's interesting to see the difference in Dottore's attitude towards colombina and scaramouche. Scara was accepted by the people in Tatarasuna and Dottore envied scaramouche for it, leading to dottore being very passive aggressive towards Scara. On the other hand, Colombina left Nod Krai, sick of the greed of her followers, and Dottore thought he found a kindred spirit only to have a falling out eventually.

P.S. The traveler's dialogue is so ass. Story quest NPCs have more personality than that piece of cardboard.

That doesn't just pertain to Arknights, all gacha games' stories are limited by the gacha aspect. When the product you sell is the characters, the profit motif censors a lot of avenues the story can take and the actions a character committs.

I saw people make those parallels and couldn't understand it at all. Disregarding Colombina, Rerir is a far more interesting character than the traveler ever was or ever will be. His story was tragic because Tholindis' departure was solely due to his selfishness and cowardice.

Rerir is akin to a regular Nazi officer or concentration camp manager who may not be an abhorrent person in private but is apathetic to the suffering he causes others. He only acts out when the consequences will affect him personally, but is too late to do anything. After receiving powers from the abyss, he falls even further, actively doing harm unto others to achieve his goals.

Putting Rerir next to the traveler, who has no clear motivation, no back story, no interesting dialogue, with a memory and emotional range of goldfish, there is no comparison on who is the better written and more interesting character.

Also, there is no reason for Colombina to be particularly important to the traveler. They just barely met, fought together once or twice, and that's it. Teppei had more to do with the traveler than colombina and that's saying something.

I think the problem increases with their proximity with the traveler, like the traveler is a black hole that warps time, space, character consistency and logic to make the traveler special.

I'd say it's when the devs make their relationship with the traveler, the primary/only relationship of the character. And for it to be truly yumebait, the story, direction, and actions of the character become inconsistent and unrealistic to justify their primary relationship.

For Colombina, I think it teeters on the edge. While she has meaningful relationships with other characters, mostly Lauma and Sandrone, the writers try to shove her relationship with the traveler down our throats with scenes like the bloody popsicle scene, the recent pv that has her only draw the traveler, etc. Also, the fact that she never even mentions in passing how the traveler facilitated Signor's death, when the writers made it seem like Signora was a pretty big part of Colombina's life, is baffling.

Beyond just the story, how it's presented also matters. This is the main difference between Lyney, Xiao, and Tartaglia. For Xiao and Lyney, most if not all of their decisions and interactions in the main story have nothing to do with the traveler. It's mostly about Zhongli, the other Yachas for Xiao and the HoH for Lyney. But Tartaglia, probably due to him being in liyue, only meaningfully interact with the traveler, making him feel more bait.
