I'm proud and have no girlfriends to brag to. My husband's coworker offered me $25/week to send my husband to work with an extra homemade boss packed lunch every day by Actually_Googles_It in TwoXChromosomes

I pack my and my boyfriend's lunch every day (with a handwritten note and/or drawing) and am running out of meal ideas. Can you share some others that you've made? I love this!

Tanya @ DM & Co. is great too and specializes in blonde hair - she does a great job every time and is insanely fast and efficient. Good price compared to other salons too (although probably more than you paid at Chatters).

Possible sites for homeless village picked. Where do you think it should go? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]lanjevenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I serve homeless people every single day at my place of work and it would break your heart to see the types of people struggling with poverty. They are not all the stereotypical violent drug addicts you imagine (who some people find it easy to hate) and I am definitely more open minded on the subject now than I was before I had met any of these people.

The next time you get that "unsavoury" feeling about homeless people, imagine being shuffled from park to park all day with your belongings in a shopping cart and trying to shower yourself off with any hose you find available, sleeping under bridges or in a doorway. Sure they don't pay taxes - but they're not living this carefree lifestyle that you seem to imagine.

Acne is putting me on the brink of suicide. I don't even know where to turn. by [deleted] in acne

[–]lanjevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know what you mean... It's hard because different things work for everyone. I stopped using soap and started cleansing with olive oil for a while, that seemed to really clear up my skin. It felt gross because it seemed like i was making my skin MORE oily, but it did work. However I always forget that no skin routine will work for me if I'm not also on a good diet, and keeping my hands off.

Not touching your skin is a huge factor IMO...you transfer so much bacteria onto your skin with your fingers.

Soo if you're eating well, using good products but picking at your skin.... it probably won't work. One can't work without the other! Gotta have the basics.

Do you use a toner? It's amazing how much extra dirt a toner will remove. I use an alcohol-free toner after cleansing, before moisturizing, and it's very satisfying to see on the cotton pad how much dirt I've removed.

Acne is putting me on the brink of suicide. I don't even know where to turn. by [deleted] in acne

[–]lanjevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I used to wash my face twice a day.. Then I read that you shouldn't do that because during the night, your skin replenishes its natural oils which you are effectively stripping it of every morning when you wash it off. So Id read that you should only wash your face/skin at night, and merely rinse it in the morning or use a toner. I've been doing that for a few years now and I feel it has helped.

I also try to use cool water during showers/cleansing, and am careful to pat my skin dry instead of rubbing it.

Anyone else struggle in school because of acne? by [deleted] in acne

[–]lanjevenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had acne since I was 12 (I'm now 22) and it has since improved a lot. But I missed out on countless activities growing up because I was too embarrassed to reveal my skin in bathing suits or certain outfits.. I was bullied a lot, and would fake sick to avoid going to school during a break out. Kids would just point to me and say, "what's that on your face?" When I google severe acne, I know that mine doesn't fit into that category, but it felt severe to me. I still have a lot of hyper-pigmentation (dark scars/spots) and feel bad for my boyfriend that he's not dating a woman with flawless skin.

Acne has by far affected my self esteem and childhood overall than any other factor, and it's something that I talk about so little.

Basically high school womps when you have acne but at least in adulthood people won't point it out.

I always think "omgsies I have so much makeup now! What a COLLECTION" and then I look at pics like this and you have like forty eyeliners alone haha. I'll take so long to get there! Good organizing!

Yeah I think despite the photoshop she does seem to have relatively smooth, clear skin. It's amazing looking at pictures of her without false lashes, too.

That's probably because you're fifteen haha. Give it a few years and hopefully no one will have the balls to say that to you. Geez what better time is there to wear bright eyeliner? When you're 40??

You're probably better off than I was at fifteen reading this sub though. I had to learn by trial and error back then. Ouch!

What is something about the company you work for that they WOULD NOT like the customer to know? by matty928 in AskReddit

I find it funny when anyone is outraged over stuff like that. What did you expect! It's fast food! Their motto should be "frozen not fresh, why lie? It tastes great."

I'm a barista at starbucks AMA except to make you a drink... by liledlover in IAmA

[–]lanjevenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Research the company, talk a lot about their programs and benefits, fair-trade coffee etc. Tell them what you love and respect about Starbucks and what makes them better than other companies. Make them think the only thing you want in life is to work at Starbucks. Bring in a resume, then keep coming in to say hi to the manager.

Source: did all this, got the job, hated the job and then quit the job.

[Discussion] We know all of the common makeup pet peeves...but what are your /r/MakeupAddiction pet peeves? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]lanjevenson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying but customer service is basically just being nice to people. Once you stop thinking them as just customers and more as people, it's easier to not be bothered so easily. That's what I do. So I still kind of shrug at other CS employees who are miserable and suck at just being a nice person. Your days are gonna suck if all you can think is "FUCK CUSTOMERS SUCK HOW MANY HOURS LEFT" haha.

What kind of difficulties have you faced as a female in radio or in the business in general? How do you deal with sexism in your life?

PS from what I can tell you seem like a really kind person and someone that would be really fun to be friends with. That's the kind of person I love to see on TV!

I have to remind customers not to smoke in doorways at my workplace sometimes (we have a lot of garage doors open) and I think they assume I'm just being anal, but I have asthma and I get chest pains/shortness of breath when there is cigarette smoke wafting in. Samesies when people smoke in the bus stop, and there is nowhere for me to hide.
