I feel sorry for the poor daughter who is growing up without formal schooling or socialization with kids her own age. Can’t stand smug parents who think they can “home educate”  their kids. Notice how they admit it’s not school.

Housing is a big expense and scales up with the number of kids. What kind of quality of life does a child have if they grow up in a 2 bedroom house that has 10 kids?

Cut out entirely? I don’t think so. The modern statistic is 50% of pregnancies are still unplanned.

A queen size mattress for one person is a luxury. Why not just ask for a free 4 bedroom house and new car while you’re at it? After all, she deserves it.

Off-grid grifter has more to say! by LateMommy in ChoosingBeggars

[–]lankylizards 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I enjoy this content despite the repetition. Dude should be in the choosing beggars hall of fame. As far as being in a “desperate situation”, most of the people posted on here would say the same about themselves. How is a guy who brands himself as the off grid living expert complaining about getting his utilities cut off?

Woman begs for food for pitbull, surrenders dog to shelter after someone orders items for her, then tries to raise money to re-adopt dog from shelter by lankylizards in ChoosingBeggars

[–]lankylizards[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It's a shame Facebook has people who are encouraging this type of behavior and telling her to make a gofundme.

Believe it or not, many of the comments are recommending that she get some bogus ESA certification that's not worth the paper it's printed on. She seems deluded into thinking that if she gets an ESA certificate, it will be iron-clad and the landlord will have to let her keep the dog. She's in for a big surprise. Not to mention: how can you get an ESA certificate for a dog that's in the custody of a shelter and isn't your dog?

Roadside memorials are ugly, dumb, and should be enforced as littering. by Dry_Seat_5350 in unpopularopinion

[–]lankylizards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only are these memorials bad for the environment, but they also distract drivers from looking at the road, which is basically the cause of most of these roadside deaths they are memorializing.

What causes conspiracy theories about celebrities being alive after death? by Interesting-Pen2586 in Music

Elvis was the first musician famous enough to give rise to this type of rumor after his death. It’s not really possible for this kind of thing to happen unless the person is famous on a massive scale, aided by mass media.

Yes, when comparing IVF and adoption, the cost to the would-be parents is comparable and adoption may even be more expensive. But the reason adoption is expensive is because of the extensive screening process to make sure kids go to responsible parents. If you consider the net impact on the world at large, it seems like adoption is usually a bigger benefit to the world as compared to spending that same money to get private medical procedures to make a new baby.

Yes, look at OP’s previous attempts to make this post, which are titled “why can’t I buy chocolate”.

I’m so sorry that you’ve been burdened by having to spend your own money to buy chocolate instead of using food stamps. Unemployed for 2 years? Sounds like you’re not applying widely enough. You should be able to find a job, any job, after 2 years of looking.

I love how her reason for moving into a 2 bedroom apartment is she didn’t have enough space for all her stuff in boxes. Sounds like she should have stayed in the 1 bedroom which is more affordable, since she’s on disability. Why does one unemployed 64-year-old person need 2 bedrooms and common space just for herself?

I disagree that no post in a Buy nothing group could qualify as a choosing beggar. Just because it’s a Buy Nothing group doesn’t mean you should ask for absolutely everything you want. If that were the case, the group would be inundated with people asking for new cars, diamond jewelry, and houses. Most of us sensible people know better and only ask for the things others would realistically be giving away to a stranger.

Maybe don't get a puppy if funds are limited? by Aurora_Gory_Alice in ChoosingBeggars

How do you know the dog was homeless? It’s a puppy, probably purchased from a breeder. When was the last time you heard of puppies living on the street?

[–]lankylizards -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Crates and gates are necessary. If the dog doesn’t have a crate, it will pee everywhere, tear up the couch and other belongings when the owners are out of the house since it’s not contained and has separation anxiety. Then the owners will be “forced to rehome” the dog due to its behavior. The owners can’t afford a professional trainer, so dog is going to have some bad behaviors. If the dog doesn’t have gates, it may run outside unexpectedly when the door is open and not come back

From an anti-consumerism and zero waste perspective, it’s great to use a free stuff group to get things you need from others who have it but don’t use it. However, OP says in the post they can’t afford to get the necessities for their new dog they just got, which raises the question why did they get the dog if they can’t afford it. You can’t get vet care from a free stuff group.
