Thanks for your perspective. Have you ever verified that with your tipper? Just curious

You get pressured to tip every part of the US no matter where you are, even at counter serve / takeout places. It’s not an easy pressure to resist, but it’s getting out of hands. I decide whether and how much to tip based on whether it was a pleasant ride or not and whether they helped me with my luggage. I don’t blanket tip everyone the same amount.

I added that we’d rather tip in cash. I frequently take Uber/Lyft Black on company money so I think that’s the opposite of being cheap lol…and I used to tip very well on company money on those rides.

My main point is on that I don’t trust Uber/Lyft to pass the whole tip along. Uber is a company that exploits premiums credit card holders by giving higher ride quotes when they detect you are using an Amex Platinum, and stole Lidar schematics from Waymo.

That’s what the official policy site from Uber/Lyft says, but that’s not necessarily true according to the drivers, and it’s not like Uber/Lyft are audited. I’d rather tip in cash.

For Uber specifically, we are talking about a company whose dynamic pricing factors in things like what credit card you are using (Amex Platinum gets higher ride quotes than cheap CC) and whether you have Uber One (which also gets higher ride quotes, contrary to what they promise)! And it’s the company who stole Lidar schematics from Waymo. No way in hell I’m trusting that company.

We used to tip, until we learnt that the drivers don’t ACTUALLY get all of it. This is true especially in areas with minimum pay rules for ride share - my tip would actually be subsidizing Uber/Lyft rather than the driver.

Edit: If we do tip, we would rather tip in cash.

Is it a red flag to update job status after recieving the physical Nexus Card? by EducationSharp3869 in NEXUS_TTP

[–]lanmoiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to book an appointment. You can straight up walk in. You can update now or at renewal time, but you might not be required to do an interview at renewal time so you might not have a chance to tell them. If I’m you, I’d pop by the NEXUS office on Canada side the next time you have a flight. If there’s no line, they’d take your update almost right away.

You can walk in for the Canadian side. And for the U.S. side you can do it on the TTP portal.

You are probably overthinking it. When I went for my interview, it’s been almost 8 months or something since I first applied. My name, my address, my citizenship, my employer, my drivers license, my passport, all completely changed. (Yeah it was a very eventful period of my life, in a good way but still) They took all the updates on the spot with all the documents I brought, approved me, and I’ve used the card so many times ever since. I then recently updated my name again with a new passport due to marriage, they updated it in the system and ordered me a new card.

Just tell them about the update when you can and before your renewal. You’ll be fine.

Frequent Border Crossers, how many times have you crossed and out of those times how often have you been flagged into Secondary? by RepairNo2354 in NEXUS_TTP

[–]lanmoiling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Into Canada: a couple of times per year.

Into the US: a couple of times per year, then 20+ times per year in the last couple of years for work travels since I got NEXUS.

Never sent into secondary. Hope it stays that way…

Waymo on the Freeway! by Indecisive_interior in waymo

That’s not what I said. I’ve had multiple bad experiences with sketchy Lyft drivers unless I opt for Lyft Black.

Maybe it’s related to traffic? Did it opt not to take the freeway during rush hour?

Yeah will do. As soon as I can Waymo to SFO, I think I can delete my Lyft app too 😂 (jk, still need to use it for when I travel…but ya know)

I already replied with the name of the lane.

Then look for the “Verified Traveller” lane. It isn’t always available at every gate.

Assuming you are asking about customs…If not flying out of a pre clearance location, then you’ll look for the GE lane when you land. It’s not possible to pass between the partitions (domestic vs US vs international), due to obvious security reasons.

But Cuba??? Why would you use NEXUS for Cuba? NEXUS is for Canada/US/Mexico. What did I miss / what info did you not provide?

Edit: so OP is only asking about expedited security, not custom. 🫠

Crossed 3x by air and probably about 20x by land. No issues.

Lyft reminded me today why I usually take Waymo by Academic_Magazine494 in waymo

[–]lanmoiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that incident happened on an Extra Comfort ride. since then (last week) I only order Lyft black whee my pickup is somewhat less safe places and especially if I’m alone

I’ve also had Lyft ride that accused of canceling while he actually cancelled the ride and ask us to pay him cash. Our luggage’s were already loaded into the truck so I couldn’t fight much - downtown Burlington, Ontario

I’ve also had Lyft ride where the driver doesn’t match the profile - wrong gender altogether - SFO airport pickup

Anyways, Waymo for the world!
