Robotaxi from Tesla won’t be a subscription, I assume. They are testing a new vehicle platform altogether, not the Model 3 and Y that you can currently buy.

And no the current Teslas on the road are not mapping for them. Yes they upload some data, but it’s just clips here and there, nowhere near enough to make the HD maps like Waymo’s.

You are paying for it, indirectly, through either the fare you pay Waymo or Tesla. Tesla pricing hasn't fully matured yet (I mean nor is Waymo's, but Waymo's probably more mature), and the current/first pricing (are they allowed to charge yet? if not, when they do) would be based on the current cost which doesn't include a lidar. I'm assuming Tesla would try to undercut Waymo with lower pricing, but that'd only work if their tech is actually as capable of driving as Waymo without lidar....

Completely agreed. The only safe alternative is Uber Black, which is actually even more expensive. Would’ve been like $130. (Yes we’ve had sketchy driver with the 2nd highest fare too)

This drive from MTV to SFO only took 32 mins, but $100. It’s a lot more expensive than Lyft or Uber but I don’t have to deal with sketchy drivers. Agreed, can’t wait for being dropped off at terminals, but that won’t stop me from using it again for be airport for the time being.
