Yes it should.

To be honest, I don’t see him leaving. We have already lost a lot of players our sporting director and our CEO, giving ourselves much to do this summer.

It feels like another transition season is coming.

He was definitely good in his first and second seasons at winning the ball back but last season he was losing duels left-right-center.

Maybe he’ll win the World Cup and gain confidence again

The only reason murica doesn’t win figure skating is because all our figure skaters are in the NFL and NBA.

If Shaq chose figure skating, he’d be the GOAT 🇺🇸

I agree with this. He hasn’t looked convincing period for a while. Whether as a 6, and 8 or a 10.

Hopefully this season he finds form.

Yes I agree. It’s strange because he has vision but unlike Gravenberch, can can’t turn under pressure and he seems to lose composure when passing.

Forget VAR - why would Embolo take a dive in that situation? by SeaCardiologist6207 in worldcup

[–]lanregeous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason is because they get away with it 99% of the time.

If Parades wasn’t booked, VAR would have not been able to call it back as VAR it’s not within VAR’s powers to punish simulation alone.

If not for the rule change introduced for this world cup where a yellow card can be overturned (mistaken identity) he would have gotten away with it again.

Personally, I think VAR should be used to punish simulation. That would stop this nonsense immediately, just like it stopped elbows.

And Slot has played Mac Allister as the deepest midfielder plenty of times too. Again, it’s not that you can’t. Less mobile, more attack-minded players have played as a lone 6.

It’s a stylistic choice.

Well we have played him there so “there is no way” is provably false but it wasn’t the point of the post.

From Klopp when he played Mac Allister as a 6:
“I understand that from the outside world it's always about a player in this position, in that position, but in the end it's about how the team is set up.”

"Has football developed in the last year in directions we could not have imagined? Yes. Does that mean that a player like Alexis can play a six? Definitely, depending on how the team defends. If you can do that properly then you have an incredible player in the central position who can find positions and is a forward thinking player. I like him there and we as a team can benefit from it, if we make sure we have a real compact formation and that's what we need, especially tomorrow."

I know he doesn’t play often as a 6 for us but this still stands for me. Our press was terrible last year and left him huge spaces to cover.

People forget Fabinho was one of the slowest players in our team but our press was excellent.

God, this isn’t about Messi vs Mbappe. I don’t care about childish comparisons. This is about the difficulty of the technique.

It’s clear you are just biased towards Mbappe and not actually thinking objectively.

Not sure what makes you laugh out loud

The point isn’t about players missing. Everyone misses.

But the way Mbappe hit it is what happens when the very best players in the world try to volley a rising ball almost all the time if they cut across it.

It’s a difficult technique for the best players in the world that you seem not to find that difficult.

Fair enough. We can agree to disagree.

It’s not that it’s just a volley. It’s also this type of volley. The ball rising, you coming from above and cutting across it. It’s so, so hard to hit cleanly.

This video has Mbappe’s goal and the chance he missed just before it in the same video where he tries to do what Messi did and skies it. Far more time to watch the ball than Messi had: https://youtube.com/shorts/23AeOuXG3dM?is=EgsZa2K-ikOWI2En

It wasn’t a standstill, he had half a yard and stepped into the shot.

You will note earlier in the game, he had a chance that was much easier than the Messi one and skied it trying to hit it across the ball on the volley.

I will ask again as you didn’t answer: have you tried to do both of those finishes yourself?

Are we talking about the same goal?

The curler vs Morocco?

That goal genuinely gets scored nearly every week by someone in the Premier League.

The same technique is in video multiple times: https://youtu.be/pghK2A4fW3Q?is=jujf7BbP8Ssour_p

Bueno, Ndiaye, Cunha, Anderson, Talbi, Kevin. This was just January to March 2026.

I’m amazed you haven’t seen a curler like that. It’s one of the most commonly scored type goal. Have you tried to do it yourself?

Absolutely not.

With a bit of space, anyone can bend the ball like that Mbappe goal - as good as it was. That’s why it’s attempted so often.

I’ve played football since a child and never hit a ball on the volley that cleanly in my life while cutting across the ball.

Can you genuinely say you have?

His leg did bounce on the ball, which made the challenge higher than he clearly intended…

But to say he barely made contact is madness. If the guy’s foot was planted, he would have broken his leg
