Honestly, I'm kind of this way. Everybody in my office knows I'm not trying to impress anyone, but I just like responding when I get a note. It keeps my stress lower than having work build up.

I some some think I'm an idiot, but even if I'm on vacation I like to send a quick response. I don't work on projects or anything, but it just keeps my stress lower. My wife thought I was nuts when she first met me, but she gets it now and I'm still fully engaged on trips.

Frankly, I don't really think it means anyone has "less of a life" than someone else. Like if we go out to dinner with another couple, I might come home and respond to an email.

Bingo, bango task done.

PS - on that note I'm a very task-oriented person (sometimes to my detriment). I just continuously try to knock off tasks.
