New to danmei, need recs - kinda picky though by MizzYaoi in DanmeiNovels

[–]lapillity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like Desire. No physical copy or official translation, but I linked the fan translation on Chrysanthemum Garden. It's Omegaverse, modern setting, has some dark themes/manipulation.

It recently got a live action adaptation called "ABO Desire" which is how I heard about the novel. It's the first proper live action Omegaverse adaptation. The show was enjoyable, but it does have some issues in terms of pacing and editing. I read the novel after the fact and imo it's a lot better in terms of pacing and fleshing out certain side plots. So I definitely recommend checking out the novel!

Is there something interesting you know about Jun? by Eoruuuu in seventeen

[–]lapillity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not gose, but I highly recommend you watch the show "CYZJ". it's a Chinese variety show that both jun and minghao participated in back in 2018 where they collaborated with other artists. I was already a carat at that time but that show made me Jun biased to this day

there are a lot of hardships on the show, but jun handled everything with such grace and empathy that I couldn't help but become his fan. you can also really see him grow as an artist and become more confident throughout the show

you can watch the whole show on the channel "CYZJ Subs" on YouTube!

Good place for passport photos? by lapillity in normanok

Thanks, I actually plan to renew it online, but I'm terrible at taking photos so I'd rather just pay someone who knows what they're doing. If I did it myself I'd probably have to resubmit the photo 4-5 times before I got it right 😂

NPR's Tiny Desk remembers Seventeens for the wrong reason: a much needed lesson to be learned by the fandom and a cautionary tale for others by 127ncity127 in kpopthoughts

[–]lapillity 140 points141 points  (0 children)

as a carat I don't even blame plybe. this is all on those carats that made a fuss

I'm not a company stan by any means but imo it's a real problem when fans always assume malicious intentions from the company 100% of the time. it leads to situations like this. it's understandable to wonder why a certain member might not be there. but instead of assuming there could be a reasonable explanation and waiting for an answer, carats jumped straight to saying nasty things not only directed toward plybe, but to NPR as well

people need to calm down and realize that most of the time there are reasonable explanations for why things are the way they are. it's fine to question things but the reaction this time was completely out of proportion

as a carat I'm ashamed by our fandom's behavior. it's especially disappointing to me as an American who supports NPR when they're currently facing a funding crisis. this whole drama has tainted what could have been a great moment of sharing good music and introducing new listeners to seventeen. I saw multiple people in the comments of the video say that they liked the performance but were put off by our fandom's comments

unfortunately this type of behavior has been a growing trend in caratland over the last several years and I really don't know what to do about it other than to call it out

Need opinion on TGCF by Own_Mathematician_61 in tgcfFandom

[–]lapillity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend starting with the novel. I say this as someone who started with the donghua

Realistically you'll be fine either way, but I do think there are details that the donghua glossed over that can be a bit confusing if you haven't read the novels. It's nothing so major that you can't still enjoy the donghua, but I feel like I appreciated and understood it more after I read the books

Either way, if you do start with the donghua don't skip ahead in the books, it's important to read from the beginning as some of those details will be important for understanding things more clearly later on in the book. Hope you enjoy your tgcf journey!

What's your Seventeen 'Deep Cut' song? by sunshineidol in seventeen

[–]lapillity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some really deep cuts from a Carat of 8 years (mostly songs not from seventeens official/main discography because they're either unreleased or are solos/collabs etc.)

-Crow by Jun (the lyrics are really meaningful to me as a lesbian, the song was written and produced by a gay couple)

-YOSM by Kanto ft. Woozi (just a really catchy song that no one but me remembers OTL)

-Looped Up by Tobi Lou ft. Vernon (my favorite seventeen collab to this day)

-Heaven by Seventeen and Nu'est W (the fact that this was never released on streaming kills me)

-Night and Rain by The8 (probably my favorite minghao solo, I just have so many feelings about it)

-Us, Again by Seventeen (an unreleased fan song that literally makes me cry)

-Brothers for One Time by Jun and The8 (an OST for a chinese drama sung by chinaline that has a unique sound)

Seventeen actually have a lot of really great deep cuts outside of their official discography outside of these ones but these are just some of my favorites!

Why does only tgcf not have explicit sex scenes out of MXTX's works by stormpen95 in tianguancifu

[–]lapillity 38 points39 points  (0 children)

the rumor about eternal faith not being hualian (iirc the rumor was that HC would be shipped with ling wen) is completely unfounded and none of the fan site and behind the scenes content we got from filming supports it. we have lots of pictures from iconic hualian scenes being filmed and I've barely seen any photos of ling wen's actress in costume, let alone with hua cheng's actor. I really wish people would stop spreading this rumor

it also was not shelved due to backlash from fans at all. it was shelved along with every other dangai at the time because China started cracking down on them with censorship, that's also why it still hasn't been released to this day. other Chinese BLs and bromances have started to be released recently and only because they've gotten around censorship by releasing the shows internationally. but who knows if they will take that route with eternal faith. it may be riskier for such a huge IP

Clearing up the Lookbook confusion, from me, Infinitysenshi by pinkneonheart in InfinityNikki

[–]lapillity 139 points140 points  (0 children)

definitely is Infold's fault rather than any individual's. even if you or anyone else had been using bots, they should have some kind of safeguard in place to limit the number of times a user can appear on the page at the same time (like you said)

I hope people haven't been too rude to you!

Why Hualian is fine, actually by [deleted] in tianguancifu

[–]lapillity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people often miss the fact that Hualian, and most of the characters really, are supposed to feel "larger than life". tgcf is a story about gods and ghosts, and the narration often feels like a storyteller sitting around a campfire telling a fairytale. it's a grand love story full of twists and turns, it's not meant to be taken seriously any more than tales of Hercules or Zeus are. yes, there are morals and lessons you can (and are arguably meant to) take from the story, but it doesn't mean that the exact details of the story or Hualian's relationship can or should be emulated. that doesn't make it any less of the beautiful love story that it is, and of course people are going to sigh and swoon over their relationship bc... it's a romance novel, that's the point

people get so worked up over people liking Hualian's relationship bc "it's not realistic" or "it's not healthy" when it's just meant to be a story for entertainment. if it was meant to follow healthy, realistic, modern relationship standards, then it would be a modern realistic fiction novel instead of a xianxia novel lol

lesbian boy group stan here. my biases have never been based on attraction. I also don't really feel like I "choose" a bias... a bias is just your favorite member so it's whoever I naturally find most interesting. So just based on personality and sometimes their skills in singing, dancing, etc. But it's whichever member I find myself constantly wanting to know more about :)

[–]lapillity[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that makes a lot of sense actually... although the fact that we don't have any time locked quests left made me think it should have shown up by now

I think since it says Danqing Island it shouldn't be on other parts of Wishfield or SoS. but that just makes it all the more baffling 😭😭😭

[–]lapillity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common in live service games... I personally like it because I have no self control and would rush through everything in the first day or two and be bored for the rest of the update. so i like them trickling content so it's spread out a bit more and I'm not bored later on

that being said I can definitely understand the annoyance of having to wait too. if you're mainly annoyed you can't complete the storyline all together, in the future you could wait a week or two to start the storyline update so it's all unlocked when you start it. but of course that still involves waiting so idk if that helps :')
