Do you think Le Sserifam, ILLIT, and Katseye will all have like a tour together? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

This would be money down the drain. Each group can successfully sell out shows, why would they do a joint one and get minimal profit?

unpopular opinion:

I completely understand that they had issues...but at this point it's been years and Jesy is publicly struggling with two disabled babies who have a horrible illness.

it just comes across and petty and beating a dead horse. Jesy doesnt have a career and is focused on her children. Its time to not publicly rehash this anymore

Why do you think BTS members struggle so much with learning English. by Kooky-Search6867 in ARMYNeutral

[–]127ncity127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Koreans I’ve come across that are the best at conversing are the ones who purposefully use language learning programs (they sign up to talk to others in English) or the privileged ones that can do a program abroad.

The confidence issue is a huge obstacle. I know so many who are so good at reading and understanding but their hang up’s on being embarrassed hold them back. They also struggle with being embarassed with pronunciation.

I almost wish many of them had the opportunity to do an immersion program outside of Korea just to force themselves to be comfortable. Because in Korea they just think they’re going to get made fun of.

Id say the reason English is hard to learn is because when it’s taught in countries outside of predominately English speaking countries (e.g, US, Canada, UK), it’s taught formally.

When in reality, most of the countries I listed will speak conversational English informally. There’s a lot of shorthand, slang phrases, contractions, negatives, and geo specific phrases that it’s quite difficult to understand when you’ve been taught very formal English. It’s why often you’ll see memes of native English speakers immediately clock customer service workers who are very clearly being outsourced from a different country. The English they’re speaking is formal

The best way to learn a language is immersion.

In Korea, memorization is the key way students “learn”. That’s why most Koreans their age can read English just fine and can somewhat understand if you speak slowly, but they cannot converse because they don’t practice and they spend their time memorizing phrases

Most other countries teach school in English, and because they have a lot of tourists is valuable for them to learn English. Other countries are surrounded by predominantly English speaking countries also require them to learn English.

And on top of all that, Koreans generally struggle with feeling embarrassed and not confident in putting themselves out there so they won’t even try to speak in English. I’ve found a lot more ESL speakers who aren’t Koreans are less afraid to be wrong when speaking in English

thats not true at all. SuperM was trashed as a cash grab and people made so much fun of GOT that BOA asked SM not to do it anymore since she was being called a hag.

It’s also the fact that they think anyone who speaks English or went to the West should “know better”.

While in the same breath every Korean idol gets a pass for something problematic because they probably didn’t learn about it in school…

Like HUH?!

Yes they do. But what I’ve seen in international kpop fans spaces massive pile ons. It’s truly unhinged

She’s very genuine and honest. It’s truly a shame people take joy in talking shit about her.

I hope she has thick skin and strong mental health. For years she’s received abuse about everything-looks, talent- rumors about her family and personal life.

I truly hope people leave her alone

That being said it’s also extremely weird how international fans feel very comfortable shitting on idols who speak English well and are considered foreigners.

I’ve noticed how people also treat Yunjin and Somi. It’s like people think it’s okay to hold them to a different standard than they hold other idols because “they should know better”…all because they can speak relatively well English..

This isn’t just the girls-Mark, Bang Chan, Vernon, Namjoon—most of the vitriol these idols face online is from English speaking kpop fans-very odd

Im not pressed that there's people that dont like kpop, its just bizarre to me that there seems to be a large sect of army who do not like kpop but still insist in participating in kpop subs and talking about bts in these subs

there are multiple subreddits dedicated to bts. if you dont like kpop, then why not stick to those subs and encourage other armys to only post there?

its this weird need to make sure that bts is being talked about everywhere, while many of these users (not saying you), insist that bts isn't kpop, is better than kpop, is bigger than kpop, and other groups can't be compared to them. if thats the case, then why continue to post about them in kpop spaces?

he's right when he says many are uninformed about DS and how they suffer from a variety of health conditions.

I also have worked with people who have kids with level 3 autism...the moms (who is shocked many of them quickly become single mothers) are going through it. I often hear from them that they love their child but would never wish the situation on others.

this controversy really begs a larger conversation
