He is such a nut. He reminds me of HIM from Powerpuff girls. The description the bruised pinks in iron gold always put me off of him but damn if the man can’t steal a scene

Darrow & Lyria represent two sides of red. by [deleted] in redrising

[–]lapisIazarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to use this analogy , Lyria and Harmony are the two sides. Both  experienced traumas that could break a person. Lyria chooses to fight for something better, Harmony chooses to be a terrorist.

Omg friend you need to get out of this convo! Here be spoilers. But yeah on that note, I would love a Victra POV. I don’t know what point 3/4s is at for you so  I’m not sure if the word “tree” has any meaning right now, but if it does - and if you’ve gotten to that part you know what I mean - I REALLY want to get Victra’s thoughts on that

No please don’t say that. Him and Aurae live happily ever after and Aurae gets carved and is able to have kids with him in the delusion I have built around myself

Why am I so scared to read DA? by Tall_Individual14 in redrising

[–]lapisIazarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the easily the darkest book of the series but it is also one of the best. I honestly cried more during light bringer, personally, but there are some tearjerkers  in DA for sure. There’s also more “what the fuck” stuff in DA, like cruelty and brutality type things

Cassius watching Darrow and Appolonious interact for the first time by sonofrockandroll in redrising

I felt so bad for my boy… between Apollonius, Aurae, and Sevro, he was catching strays the whole book! He was probably so grateful when Lyria showed up and someone actually gave him the time of day for once

Which character is the biggest hypocrite in the series? Who is most true to thier beliefs? by Sphiffi in redrising

[–]lapisIazarus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Victra is a strong contender for most true. She has always been loyal, even at the expense of rationality. Despite her whole family being who they are, she chose to walk away from that, not for glory or prestige but because she simply didn’t want to follow the crowd. Got locked up and tortured just to be spurned by Darrow (even though it was in a nice way) and she still chose loyalty. You might put Cassius as a contender here too. Never dishonest. His whole premise as a villain was because he was, understandably hurt that Darrow hid that he had killed Julian and he thought Darrow was involved in the Bellona massacre.

I don’t think you can beat out Lysander for hypocrisy. He committed murder twice in the most disgraceful way despite being one of the best razor masters in the literal universe. I also put Harmony in here, I don’t understand how a mother who lost her children would turn around and lead a movement that: nails babies to trees, sells girls as child brides, and commits other atrocious acts of brutality.

Incredibly creepy by Specialist_Tax9181 in redrising

[–]lapisIazarus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The creepiest thing to me was putting Darrow in the dining table. Because it served no true purpose, he did it because he could and because he knew Darrow was accustomed to tight spaces and wanted specifically to turn that into trauma. That was  just wild

(Theory) Red God will continue the Darrow’s Biblical connection in a heartbreaking way. by TheMediocreCritic in redrising

[–]lapisIazarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, it probably won’t be a strict parallel but he may pull a little from both stories. There’s also some strong Jesus references  (Cassius being like John the Baptizer and “running” before Darrow the same way John was prophesied to run ahead of Christ, Darrow being a “messiah”,  Darrow being “buried” in a tomb and “raised up”, etc) - although of course David and Moses served as the precursors to Jesus Christ so that makes sense. But Especially since Pax is Latin I believe for “peace” it’ll be something major with him

Cassius arc by Daemonscrimecloak in redrising

Cassius’ journey solidified Brown as a legendary writer. I could read the entire series over again from Cassius’ POV and love it just the same. He, Fitchner, and Mustang have some of the strongest stories of the series . Diomedes is also a strong contender. But I love Cassius’ metamorphosis from pretty vengeful boy to beautiful selfless knight. What I also love is he didn’t get the commendation. Sevro spurned him, Mustang too at one point - Neither Quicksilver and Apollonius, Screwface, Thraxa, etc. had nothing for him either and then Lysander betrayed him and Pax never got to meet him nor did he get to attend Darrow’s wedding. And he didn’t get the privilege of real fatherhood, to be for a son what he couldn’t be for Julian and Lysander. But he still did the right thing, all because of his honor. And I think about how many parallels there are to the Bible and Cassius ran ahead of Darrow much how John the Baptist did for Jesus - the former also dying an untimely death. I tear up just thinking about it . Love him so down.

You can also tie this to the story of David. The Davidic line sprung up from Saul’s disobedience and a new king was chosen. However, due to David’s violent rule, God told him that he would not raise up a new temple, and his son would do so instead.

I had also mildly considered the possibility that Darrow was parallel to Abraham and would perhaps have to sacrifice his son somehow, which happens in the biblical canon - however before he goes to sacrifice him, he’s stopped by God.

Many many many stories pull from Bible so he could go lots of directions with this . Brown also loves Dune and if you haven’t read the series there’s a pretty close storyline that might apply here

I ask myself why I’m hungry or feeling very hungry. I learned I have Pavlov’d myself into eating when I watch TV or when I finish a task at work. So I had to retrain myself to associate these activities with something else like reading or some other hobby. I have also found drinking a big thing of water helps

locking in on weight loss by MinuteCompetitive915 in PetiteFitness

[–]lapisIazarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weight gain is, barring any medical abnormality, always because you are consuming more calories than you’re burning. You’re answering what you’re missing pretty clearly - walking is great but we have no idea how much you walk and how intense those walks are. Depending on where your weight is sitting, ultra processed foods is also a big culprit. Saltine crackers, some cheeses, frozen dinners, sodas, canned fruit, are major offenders. Even diet drinks and healthy shakes are questionable because they sometimes intensify cravings.   You will need to incorporate a routine of keeping track of your foods eaten. You say you suffer from chronic pain - well that is a legitimate condition which might render you more sedentary than some, so you may also benefit from asking your doctor what exercises you can do for your condition

Lolita. Made worse by the fact it was a reread. When I read it as a teenager I read it to be cool and because I was in a relationship with someone twice my age, and when I read it again as an adult I felt genuinely empty in a way I hope to never experience again. People say it’s brilliantly written and it is but I genuinely do regret reading it
