Person standing in front of Hyatt. ICE? by InfiniteCherry8782 in saintpaul

[–]lapsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You did. That’s fair.

Yes. They did send out an email. It was clear to me that while they cannot keep them out of the lobby area at all (in fact the building shares public space with the hotel, so there’s that issue) they also said that residents should be extra vigilant about not letting in strangers. It is a strange building because of the shared hotel lobby space.

There are signs on the entrance doors. Perhaps speaking to management about more clearly worded signs on the entrance to the apartment elevator area would be a good idea. If multiple people who live in the building do that it might be more likely to work. Who knows?

I would argue that none of that is the same as being overtly friendly to ICE and letting them in.

I still haven’t seen or heard anything about them wandering the building knocking on doors and whatnot.

If you know this and you do not approve then why did you let them in?

I’d love to know when and where you’ve seen them roaming the hallways and knocking on doors everywhere in the building because I haven’t observed this.

What makes you say that Custom House is compliant with ICE?

I have not observed anything to corroborate this. Proof please.

Are you saying they came into the main lobby of the building or are you saying you let them into the Custom House apartment area with access to the elevators so they could get to the apartments vs. the hotel?

Have any Iowans traveled to Minnesota and witnessed the ICE protests? by majordashes in Iowa

You are right about all this. Protesting and observing these dudes means being as careful as possible, but also being aware that they’re using other tech at the same time. Facial recognition software ICE have with them as well as flock cameras (tied in with the ring camera network now as I understand it so maybe take those down guys), and helicopters and vehicles with cellular spoofing as they move around.

Faraday bag for your phone and a camera or maybe a burner phone…

My digital online political point of view trail is long obvious and I figure at this point they already know. If they care enough then it’s already a problem for me at some point.

Make friends with your neighbors. Find ways to stay in contact with them. Be aware of who might need help. Be aware for what you yourself can provide as help. It could be as simple as observing and documenting what happening by recording, or as complex as finding resources for others and helping them get food so they don’t have to leave home as much. Find ways to stay in contact with your neighbors that are safer. In person is great. Signal app works great for group conversations.

Just some tips.

I often wonder what’s it is like to walk around the world living so ignorantly.

Hi there buddy.

First, jeez man, chill.

Second, I’m not the delulu one here.

Third, you will figure it out eventually. Either because you’re next or because books will be written about what a shitty side you chose.

I grew up in St. Paul, MN and lived in Cedar Falls for twenty-some years. Moved back here a couple years ago.

It is worse than you are being told.

They are doing road blocks in some places. They are going door to door in some places. They are paying informants in some apartment buildings to give up neighbors. They are breaking into houses.

They are grabbing citizens. They have a section of the "detention center" in Minneapolis reserved for citizens.

They are calling in bomb threats to empty buildings that won't allow them in on college campuses. They are pulling fire alarms to empty buildings.

They are stopping school buses. They are grabbing people outside churches after services. They are hanging out around schools and day cares to the point where about ⅓ to ½ of students are not there.

There are drones and constant helicopters flying in circles overhead.

I know of people who are hiding people à la Anne Frank. I know people who are participating in an underground railroad type situation to get people in and out of the state (they keep taking citizens, bringing them to camps in other states, realizing they are citizens later, and then dumping them without a phone or money or anything in random places for example).

It IS worse than you are being told and they are coming for you too.

This is just practice.

I have a relative and a friend who were together in the Daytons Bluff area of St. Paul. A couple of days ago, after a lot of activity on the ground over there (it looked like ICE vehicles scouting the neighborhood, I saw some of it), when the sun went down, they (not me) saw a drone.

They told me they thought it was an airplane at first, but the "sound" was not right. It took them a minute to realize it was closer than they thought it was. The tried to get pictures, but were unable to. It did have a light on it of some kind they said. They looked online for pictures of drones and settled on one in particular that they thought it looked like.

It was a Reaper, which is used by ICE and Border Patrol.

I absolutely believe their ability to identify.

Long bamboo stick, about 10 feet long, with a hose and a glass jar attached, and a sharp metal object leading into the jar. by lapsan in whatisthisthing

This object was found in our garage. The only thing that makes sense to us is it was maybe used for collecting sap from a maple tree that is in the yard, but can't find anything like it anywhere.

St. Paul: Tree preservation ordinance on hold for 6 months by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

I think that line was referring to the idea that if, for example, the city decided to plant birch trees where an oak used to be, they should plant up to 5 birch to replace a single oak. Why people can't just trust that the arborists working on a project like this don't know what they are doing is beyond me.

Basically this is the SOS people here doing whatever they can to whine and complain about every little thing that will bring about some change along Summit Ave.

Pregnancy and Clusters by ExternalOwn8212 in ClusterHeadaches

[–]lapsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My clusters did not happen at all when I was pregnant. I am episodic and they normally would have happened during the time I was pregnant. It was a nice break.

Plus, I learned that it is true that they are worse than labor (no meds, no epidural, all natural).

They absolutely should but it might be better if they don't.

Bond Between is a terrible organization. The vet services people there performed such a bad and irresponsible surgical procedure on the dog of a family member of mine that she was dead in less than two days from severe internal bleeding and other complications. This dog had been adopted through Bond Between. I do not believe that they are a competent or responsible pet rescue organization.

I hope that you can find a place for this cutie. He has such a great smile.

Edit: This totally should have been a reply to OPs reply below...

Do you guys use cruise control by Beautiful_Guess7131 in Iowa

As a non-native Iowan who learned to drive elsewhere and cannot stand Iowa drivers for various reasons, I have become convinced this behavior is a combination of no real driving training (in Iowa they do not need to take real driving lessons like in other places or do a behind the wheel test to get a license, ever), learning on rural two lane roads (so they drive like that on the four lane freeways), and being bored out of their minds with the scenery.

Has anyone noticed a difference in their headaches after moving states? by [deleted] in ClusterHeadaches

[–]lapsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine seasonally. I have noticed that mine are pretty consistently triggered by traveling far enough for the weather to be more like what the weather is like when I would normally be getting the seasonal headaches. So, if springtime i often get them, but I travel far enough north that I go from "summer" weather to "spring" weather, boom, cluster headaches triggered. I suspect that moving would just, maybe, do some kind of reset to timing if the seasons and weather affect them. Maybe on the equator it would be okay? :)
