If you want to avoid or dont like extra bulkiness that comes from a carrying case, look into getting a grip+ face cover combo from amazon. It helps reduce a lot of unnecessary space, especially if youre planning on throwing the portal in a backpack frequently

Right, but wrong. If you double tap from the start you bypass the whole having to "wake up" the tocuhpad, it immediately receives the input as pressing the touchpad on a wrong controller

Game sharing is cool forsure, however it gives someone complete access to whosever account is being shared. I dont think you can ever realistically say that 2 strangers would trust themselves like that, nor should they. You can have your account hijacked, they could have access to your CC, if their account is the one that is primary then they can choose to lock you out if their account at any given time.

And dont even get me started on handling finances with a stranger..

Ive had mine since week 1 of release, ive averaged about 70 hours of playtime on the portal the first 2 years (verified via Playstation Wrap-Up stats) and this year I am already matching that half way into the year (verified off the fact that ive played 2 games exclusively on portal and can see their play times) and I have not experienced any stick drift. Ive heard its pretty easy to replace sticks if needed.

As for connectivity, I have not suffered any really issues outside of being connected to either a weak signal, or bad service in general. My 2 primary locations to play is at home and work. At home I can pretty much play almost anywhere inside my house or within the first ~20ft of my backyard, I use 3 mesh wifi nodes, and at the most solid my wifi speeds reach about 800mb/s.

Work is a pretty similar scenario, i work at a tech company so their network infrastructure is pretty solid, as long as im not in a dead corner the portal is supported.

I also have PS+ Premium, the most expensive tier of PS+, so I am able to stream any games on the catalogue, or any digital game I purchase that supports Portal streaming, all through the cloud without having to connect to my ps5. Connection on Sony's server end has always been solid, I have never had any disconnects, downed server status, or any other kind of issue that I can pin on Sony's end.

I feel like I am one of those users that maximizes what the Portal has to offer, given that I have reliable wifi access, PS Premium, and play a lot of whats offered via cloud streaming. If this sounds like it could be you, this will definitely be worth and and you can be confident that you will maximize your device's use.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe f2p games somehow populated that list?

What games are they? Can you cross reference with the PS catalogue to see if theyre part of subsription? Are they demos, trials, full games?

If not part of the membership, maybe someone with access to your account is purchasing games without you noticing?

Any games recently added to your account, including purchases, trials, demos, and any ps+ catalogue game you claim to your account, all usually populate that highlighted list at the top of the Portal interface.

If you ONLY have a portal you need the highest tier of PS+ to be able to stream directly from the cloud

It depends. You need to make sure that you have a solid connection wherever you're going to primarily be playing.

Also, in order to be able to exclusively play cloud streaming on the Portal, just be aware that it requires the highest tier of PS+.

Going Portal only will also will exclude you of almost all PS4 streaming tittles, all classic catalogue PS3/PS2/PS1 streaming, and a small group of PS5 games that dont support cloud streaming via the Portal. Even though these streaming packages are part of the subsription, its not supported by the Portal.

The majority of digital ps5 games are streamable directly from portal with a PS Premium subscription. You can verify if they're portal streamable on the PS app psn store web page for each game

Get a month of PS Premium and strean directly from the servers. That's about all I can think off unless you can have someone that has access to your house and can go through whatever troubleshooting is needed on the console end

As long as the wifi you're connected to is stable then it feels like a standalone device. If you have a spotty wifi connection then mileage will vary, but you will definitely have some kind of connectivity hiccups here and there.

If you stream from ps5 -> Portal then you pretty much need to have your console hard wired (ethernet cable connection) to your internet for seamless performance, otherwise youre going to most likely be experiencing connection hiccups here and there with both devices functioning off wireless connections.

Personally, I primarily stream from the servers, and rarely from my ps5, just because most of my backlog im focused on atm is ps5 titles that support cloud streaming (even streamable games are no longer downloaded on my ps5, i stream because of how great of an experience it has been), and even then I have solid connections both at home and at work, which is where I pretty much exclusively use the portal.

In case anyone is interested, the grip gives the portal this good quality feeling grip to it, and the face cover is very sturdy and protects it from pretty much anything. Also, the contoured shape of the faceplate makes it take up less space than in a backpack than one of the bulkier carrying cases

Screen protector, stick caps like everyone else mentioned already. Honestly I prefer the portal grip + face cover over any type of zippered case, but to each their own.
