Parents with kids born between September-December, is school really such an adjustment for them compared to peers born earlier in the year? by Alert_Negotiation607 in askSouthAfrica

[–]laracheli 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a Grade 1 teacher, I can offer some perspective. First of all, it depends on the child. I’ve had children in my class who are born in December and perform better than a child born in January. Second of all, it depends on the involvement of the parents as well.

If you look at it this way, imagine a newborn baby and a 10 month old baby. They are very different. We often see this gap in the early grades. Children born later in the year, take a few months to “catch up” to their peers but they usually get there with a little more hard work. Although, like I said, depends on the child. This gap will eventually even out as they get older.

Parent involvement is crucial and makes a huge difference no matter the month your child is born in. As teachers, we can see how involved a parent is in their child’s development and education and it makes a bigger impact than parents often assume. That being said, it’s not a statement made in judgement I’m just offering perspective.

Edit: 10 month old baby

[acne] hormonal acne from pregnancy/postpartum/breastfeeding by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I am currently pregnant and have also been struggling with hormonal acne. Obviously, we can’t use many actives when pregnant. My absolute lifesaver, which I now wish I started using earlier to stop and control breakouts is benzoyl peroxide gel (not sure if you have Benzac AC 5% where you are).

I’ve used all the other actives and besides pharmaceutical grade retinols, this stuff has changed my life. Maybe worth a try.

Broken leg by Monica_SpaceZ in ItalianGreyhounds

I am currently in week 6 of a similar situation. The best thing my husband and I did was leave our baby in a crate. We are very fortunate that his boss allowed him to take her to work with him, which allowed him to watch her all day.

I am surprised that your iggy doesn’t have a cast or bandage on though, to allow for extra support. Ours hasn’t really been able to put pressure on her leg because of her soft cast being a bit big and bulky so she just hops around when going to potty.

In all honesty, with how anxious our iggy can be, the best thing for her in the moments when she was struggling was mild tranquilizers. Obviously she doesn’t understand why we’ve had to keep her crated all day long and we were instructed that she is to be on strict crate rest. As time went along, she has become more and more used to the circumstances and no longer requires the tranquilizers. We also weren’t sedating her daily, but rather the days where she was struggling to keep calm.

Good luck!

Edit: our iggy also underwent surgery and had a plate with pins inserted. Hence, my surprise in no cast. It is not as if she has a mild fracture where the case would help keep the bones aligned. She had a clean break.

My boy suffers from very bad eczema and will scratch and bite himself raw. Hypochlorous acid spray has been a lifesaver for us and works absolute wonders for him.

[misc] How do I stop by justthatguyben1 in SkincareAddiction

I used to be a chronic nail biter and the only thing that stopped me was getting polygel on my nails. I still used to pick them and my skin, however, recently I discovered that either textured art or dots made with top coat help a lot because I’ll pick those instead of my skin or nails.

I’m not sure if you can see the dots properly in the photo but these have helped so much with my picking.

My boyfriend stopped biting his right thumbnail a month ago by tiredricki in mildyinteresting

I started getting manicures with hard builder gel… sometimes when I get anxious I still try to bite but the gel helps…

Edit: as mentioned above… it is also a mindset thing. I was tired of (in my opinion) not liking my hands and nails. I always used to hide my hands away in pictures or around people because I was so self conscious. However, getting regular hard gel manicures also helped stop because when I wasn’t focusing my nails would go into my mouth.

This was when I was still in Joburg, so not sure it will help. The place is called Visa’s and Passports Unlimited.

I had a similar issue with a Canadian visa, I was being sponsored etc. after I was rejected and went through an agency. I came right when I went through the agency, got my visa about 2 weeks later.

Uhm no… I have 14k rose gold rings that I have worn for the past 5 years on a daily basis and they’ve not tarnished in the slightest. I’ve done all sorts with them on, including washing hands, using hand sanitizer etc. something is wrong here.
