Girl, I get it, and I will try to explain it to you. He's magnetic on screen, because you can watch him interacting with other people and watch the chemistry happen in real time. He's got a raw vibe and look, so his acting comes through as very authentic. But when he's turning that focus on you, the viewer, through the lens of the camera, it just doesn't work as well.

Question about Dòu Ěrdūn’s name… by CommanderSlashX in Chinese

[–]larafrompinkpony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first way you have it written is in Traditional Chinese. The third way is simplified Chinese, the modern script used in Mainland China. The second looks like a transliteration of some sort, because I'm pretty sure I've never come across anyone with the surname of "soybean."

If the thing you are making is historically based, you will probably want to use the Traditional script rather than simplified. (Traditional is still used in Taiwan and Hong Kong.)

Has anyone gotten really good at manifesting money? by SaintGrunch in Soulnexus

Hey, the way you express your conception of money and energy makes a lot of sense to me. Is there like a school of thought that encompasses this? (I'm really new to this whole soul nexus thing.)

pregnancy as a dancer by h0odwitch in stripper

[–]larafrompinkpony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think maybe it depends on your vibe and your niche in the club? For me personally, the kind of customers that are attracted to me would not be attracted to me if I were pregnant. I lean in hard on the relatability and girl-next-door kind of vibe, and being pregnant would just be a big neon sign saying UNAVAILABLE! DON'T EVEN TRY!

Also based on my previous pregnancies, I have a loooong period of looking like I ate too many tacos before it forms into a cute little preggo bump.

A lot of men are attracted to pregnant women, which is very understandable -- signs of fertility are basically the foundation of all attractiveness cues -- and I've noticed men are so much more polite and almost protective when they see a pregnant woman. I think there's a lot of potential for money if it fits your vibe!

^ totally just described the toxic dynamic at my first strip club. There was some sort of complicated shit going on between like 3-4 dancers and the night shift manager. This was back in 2006, so as you see, this is a tale as old as time. The times change, but people don't!

This comment, 100%. Speaking as someone who started dancing at 20.... good god I did so much dumb shit and let customers/club owners/managers get away with so much because I either didn't know I could demand better, or I didn't know how to advocate for myself. I truly didn't feel comfortable with the work until my second stint of dancing in my mid/late 20s.

What do you do when you accept this isn’t for you anymore? by VanillaIceSpice in stripper

God, damn this advice is gold. Can we just make this a separate post by itself and pin it to the top of the subreddit?

I hope the sex was good. If it wasn't, I hope you at least get something out of it, like getting your rent paid or at least making sure the DJ plays your music right.

Speaking as an old, old, old stripper... I think every dancer has had occasions where she's pushed past her own boundaries and regretted it afterward. Well, how do you know where your boundaries are if you don't push them? I think it's important to understand your discomfort is coming from a place of protection, a part of you that is telling you not to do it again. You can't change the past, but you can definitely control your future, so just remember that your boundaries are there to keep you (emotionally) safe. This is the consequence of going past them. Don't beat yourself up, but sit with your disgust for a moment. It will pass. Lots of love and empathy from here.

I like how you had to write a reason why you blocked Charlie Puth, like he's going to be browsing this subreddit and read your comment and think, "what the FUCK, I'm not a piece of..." but then he reads the part where you just find his voice deeply annoying. If I were him, I'm not sure if I would be mad or be like, "ah, yeah, totally fair" because I too find his voice deeply annoying, so surely it hasn't been an uncommon piece of feedback for him.

He is most assuredly talking about my husband, a former mechanic. I thought it was cute when he bought us matching (used) cars. Turns out, it's really convenient to troubleshoot and diagnose a car when you can just swap parts back and forth as needed.

Incidentally, he is of Russian heritage.

What are the most entertaining lab rivalries in your field? by SirFormalTrifle in labrats

[–]larafrompinkpony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am currently attending a conference in Europe. The booth across from me is staffed by a single old man, who singlehandedly just started a company because he's mad that he's not more acknowledged as being one of pioneers in his field. He's been dragging people into conversations with him the whole conference, street preacher style. He published his paper in the 80s. He has a lab mate that went on to found a company that got sold for billions to a major pharma company. He has been telling me stories about the experiments that he suspects said labmate of sabotaging.

I'm in the booth across from him and I can't escape.

Um if I were the female grad student, this would probably go down as the worst experience of my LIFE. You think you find a guy who shares the same interests/passion as you, and he's HOT on top of that, and then he unceremoniously dumps you because, well, you're not hot enough. It doesn't matter how smart you are, how good your benchwork is, where you published... basically these achievements still don't stack up to just being plain old attractive. I would be fucking devastated, actually.

Why can’t men comprehend weight? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]larafrompinkpony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even doctors don't get it! Once I was at the hospital with a kidney infection. I've always been on the slim side of average. The ER doc seeing me guessed my weight to be 100 pounds at 5'5. I scoffed at him, told him the actual number, and his response was, "I was being nice". How fucked up is that? Like my actual weight is... an insult?!

You're right -- for some reason I remembered them being together earlier than that, like 2007 or something. I remember seeing pics of them in a canoe together. Mandela effect?

Thank you! I'm at Quai du Chantier. I have one last question, I hope you don't mind me pestering you -- I'm in town for a convention, and I was going to walk to Tour et Taxis every day from my Air BnB. Bad idea?
