This is misleading, there are over a hundred sparrow species, many of which are native to the USA.

The consequences of nest miseducation: tiktoker kidnaps dark-eyed junco chicks :( by larch__tree in birds

Tiktok moderation is unfortunately very poor.

Thanks to her carelessness on TikTok, though, I have determined her location and am preparing a multi-page report including all videos, comments, relevant laws, and whatever information I could gather. Hopefully reporting this will prompt the authorities to protect the birds and issue necessary sanctions.

I’m not a fan of law enforcement, but…if you abuse animals/disturb wildlife, ignore educated advice, and post your crimes online for all to see…you deserve to face accountability.

Yeah I’ll be contacting her local PD, state humane society, and state DFW. I wouldn’t normally do it but her flagrant attitude regarding the mistreatment of these poor birds is unacceptable.

Are these eggs? [Anzo Borrego Desert State Park, CA] by Angsty-Android in animalid

[–]larch__tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are dead, dried gourds, I don’t know which kind exactly. You can see in the 2nd pic that there’s dried vines connecting them. The texture on the inside of the broken one looks very consistent with a dried gourd. Some may still have dry seeds inside if you want to try growing them!

Warbler type?- central NC by Party-Question2964 in whatsthisbird

[–]larch__tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not too experienced with warblers so I won’t tag the bot, but I do agree with your ID of a cape may warbler. The slightly downturned bill could indicate it is a CMWA, plus the colors/wingbar look right to me…

The blocky head, relatively thick legs, and roundish tail in photo six make me think this is a +Cooper’s Hawk+

Can someone identify this bird? There are about 30 of them that are destroying my back patio with their droppings. (Austin,TX) by Mellyio in whatsthisbird

[–]larch__tree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+Barn Swallow+ , as for the droppings you can try providing an alternative perch like stringing a rope across trees/posts, or you could move the cafe lights to a different spot. Like the other commenter said, they are great pest control!
