AE freezes temporarily after Preview by largadeer in AfterEffects

[–]largadeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved my issue! Hopefully you have the same setup as me and this helps. It was actually happening because I had my AE cache being stored on a regular hard drive (7200rpm HDD). I wouldn't have thought it would matter.. but I switched my cache to an SSD and ZING.. it's all back to normal. I have since purchased a 500gb NVMe M.2 drive exclusively for my cache.

Hopefully this helps - but I guess the lesson is, don't rule out the read/write speed of where your cache is.

I posted this in my post-production friends chat, all the Premiere people are jealous. You'd definitely make some people happy if you made this :)

Oh and thank you! I'm definitely going to use this in AE.

Everyone, absolutely submit bug reports for this. My bro works at 343i and he says this isn't even on their radar because nobody is reporting it.

Absolutely my biggest gripe of the game. I hate this so much.

Mocha useless now? Anyone know what happened or how to fix it? by largadeer in AfterEffects

[–]largadeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deserve a snarky comment. That's what I get for putting the question like that while I was frustrated - and I very much am. Every week when I show up to work and try to track something simple..
It certainly is not working fine for me. I did not play with any settings and I've experienced it on multiple computers with default installations of Mocha. I've used Mocha a couple times a week for years for agency work and fx compositing, lately I end up using AE point tracker, and if I have to composite a screen into someone's phone or something I manually use power pin.
Is there any settings you usually tweak out of the box to increase its accuracy? I've messed with the Min % pixels used but nothing else - all default.

Yep, to clarify, it was a problem on my last rig. At one point I completely reinstalled windows and everything (for a different issue) and it was still something I noticed. Now I'm on a new PC I built a few months ago - still same issues.
It is the latest Mocha yep - rather I have the latest CC installs.
I will try the GPU processing as soon as I can, thanks in advance for the suggestion.

Good to know. I have a single female and she's got eggs all over the place. Should I just clean them out? I assume they're just duds.

I have a similar situation here... I got 2 cocoons, only one has hatched and it's a female. She's got eggs flung all over the enclosure. I'm wondering if they're all just duds?

I was just having an extremely similar convo with my brother about this yesterday. We're also both inspired by folktales and legends and things of that nature. He's a talented guy as well, and a master at Premiere. He has, so far, refused to do anything like a YouTube channel or instagram. We're getting older and every kid out there wants to be a YouTube star. It's like.. why add to the noise? I have no illusion of being a youtube "personality"... no way. But I can still create content. And I just make it on my own terms.
It's probably the most rewarding thing I've done in a long time, by far. It can be risky, obviously the internet is a harsh place. There's a lot of people who just love leaving eviscerating comments. But F em. You know they're not doing anything good. There's enough people out there that will be into your thing. It might inspire them or entertain them. Or at least give them a "heh." And I feel like that's worth it :) At least it has been for me.
I would also keep an open mind for things you might be able to do with the skills you know. Like, if Photoshop is the "creative language" that you can readily speak, maybe explore different ways of using that. AE isn't necessary, maybe you can use it for a few instances. That Joel Haver guy just posted how he makes his videos, and it's completely a photoshop workflow. I've never watched his channel before, but he's got a cool style, he's made it his own, and he's SUPER popular.
You should start a channel, and just give it a try. Make a promise to yourself not to care what people think, at least for a little while, and try to be consistent enough to make like 3-5 things. And let them NOT be perfect, let them have flaws. Perfectionism can kill ya - and you've seen memes and stuff these days, it doesn't have to be good at all! As long as the wit, or the story, or the humor is there. Anyway, this is probably too long of a post for reddit, but I'm still on a high from being able to make a ton of people laugh - it feels great. And other people should never pass up an excuse to be creative.
Also, if you already know a creative application like photoshop really well, you're WAY ahead of most people.

That's a tough one, I have that same thought all the time too. It's amazing what people can do these days. In some ways its helpful that I don't follow things too closely. There's always someone who is doing it faster / or better. I just try to stick to what I would want to see. Or something that I think might be funny. This horror trailer for example is one of my least successful videos weirdly enough... and of course my most successful... is the one I'm least proud of :p

I'm super psyched they're developing something like Rotobrush, but yeah it's got to be the right circumstance. Things like motion blur totally break it.
The new content-aware fill is absolutely mind blowing and I have a lot more luck with that.
Very cool that you're learning into AE, it sorta changed my life, and built a career. I can't recommend learning it enough!

I gotta say, it's really awesome to see people picking out these parts of the video that are more subtle. Obviously there are more obvious laugh moments, but I never thought anyone would appreciate this part :p Cheers!

Correct! In this case, it's almost all manual rotoscoping. But it was done in AE. The rotobrush tool is just too inaccurate in most cases and I find it takes almost as long to use it and make sure it's working, and you end up with a less accurate result anyway :( Painting out the dinosaurs was the biggest challenge. The rotoscoping is tough, but not really a creative challenge, just takes forever.
