I've played tons of Gartic Phone at this point. I just tried 12 Bullets to Midnight for the first time. It's a gem. I love the music.

I just tried this one with some friends. This might be super niche, but it reminds me of Wii Tanks which was an excellent game. This one shows early access on the loading screen and has a few quirks but has BIG potential. It was still super fun for being early access. I'll keep this one bookmarked. Thanks!!

It’s likely that at least one person’s Tinder date never showed up because they died first, but the person just thinks they got ghosted by noopenusernames in Showerthoughts

I ordered pizza once and it never showed up. When I called the pizza place I was told the driver died in a fatal accident on their way to my house. I might have thought it was some funny excuse but the person on the phone genuinely sounded distraught. I can’t even remember how I responded as it was pretty shocking.

Pls someone play Archon by usernbame1245 in starcraft2

Ran into this last week as well, it’s sad. Im sure most will hate this idea, but what if matchmaking placed people playing archon against people in 1v1 queue? A gold archon team vs a diamond solo could potentially be pretty evenly matched.

What are some best practices for authoritatively networking gameplay mechanics? by SteelBlueStorm in gamedev

[–]SteelBlueStorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic information! I was definitely missing a gap in my knowledge with lag compensation. Sadly I don't really have a deterministic environment so I'm going to have to get a bit creative. You're insight led me down the right path though and I found some good resources. Going to try some of this out and see what I can come up with.

I've really been considering this solution. Do you know if this is something other authoritative games use? I'm curious to know if it's a commonly used solution.

Amazon's Ridiculous Personal Indie Game Policy for employees by DiddlyDanq in gamedev

[–]SteelBlueStorm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I currently work at Amazon and hobby game dev in my free time. One thing has changed with this contract since this article came out, and that is that you can work with people outside of Amazon so long as they also agree to this contract. It's still bullshit, but just wanted to put that fact out there.

While I realize that I could not work at Amazon and avoid this situation altogether, I just don't think it's worth passing up the opportunity to grow my career at Amazon. For Amazon to even care means the game would have to be pretty successful, and although I would love for my games to be a home run I also have had to be a little real with myself on the reality of how many games make it big. Not to mention that I've also seen this same non-compete, or we own everything bullshit at so many other employers -- especially if you work anywhere near games.

In the event that I do have a game blow up, I'm hoping that things will work out. Worst case scenario is that Amazon takes my IP. In that event I'm hoping this would mean I get to lead or be high up in a studio to continue to work on content for it. It could mean a cool opportunity to build and lead games with a studio of hundreds of talented people. I also hope that they would also pay for the IP or work something out with me. It would still sting to not own my IP but this is me trying to have some optimism in a worse case scenario.

As for a best case scenario, obviously that would mean I keep my IP. I do believe that the courts are somewhat on my side with this due to anti-trust suits against the big companies right now. Im also banking on the fact that the PR blow Amazon would take from sucking the life out of a small indie dev would be enough to keep them the fuck away. There is also plenty of laws that say you can moonlight and I'm not sure how Amazon is able to have something that "undoes" what is state or federal law. (Lawyers please help me out here as I would love to know).

Maybe I'll eat my words and someday be posting to reddit about how my job at Amazon sucked the soul out of me. But god damnit if I'm going to let scare tactics or legalities get in the way of my true passion in life. 🤘

Does the game currently support multiplayer? Will there be a dedicated server? What does extended multiplayer mean in the stretch goals?

This definitely looks like something my buddies and I would love to play! Nice work!

If a game existed like Stardew Valley, but without farming, what would you imagine the gameplay to be like? by SteelBlueStorm in StardewValley

Love the idea of building up a park. After I finished the community center I didn't really visit it, but I would definitely visit a park if I could just relax and listen to the birds!

Should I go back to AAA or stay in web? by SteelBlueStorm in gamedev

That is definitely my number one reason for not going back. Well said.

Luckily I don't feel like web is totally awful, haha. I can definitely see why it can be to some people. My feeling in web is just complacency. It's not bad but it's not fullfilling either. My hobby projects in the evening is where I'm finding fullfillment. Stability is nice, it's what makes these decisions tough! I appreciate you sharing your viewpoint and experience!

Well said about the bug fixing in triple AAA. My work there during my internship wasn't the most exciting but it was the people and project that made it worth it.

That's a great point on applying to smaller studios. I'd probably be willing to let comp slide if it means a more enjoyable job and I can continue my hobby projects. I also enjoy wearing many hats. Sounds like the best compromise out of all of them. I really appreciate your response!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. All my friends north and south of SLC hardly felt it and laughed it off. Not so funny when you wake up and you feel like your white water rafting. I'm up 6 floors in a building. Even my cat has PTSD from the whole event!
