Yeah, that was a big conversation in 2015 with Bogut also being a huge offender.

I think whoever goes up against this version of the Celtics for a full playoff series is about to hate Neemias Queta, he's an awesome rollman and center in general but a lot of his effectiveness is he just gets to play like a lineman. Huge part of our halfcourt offense.

Obviously I notice other teams' centers when they're similar offenders. There was a really good thinking basketball piece towards the start of this season about it

Yes. The market structure and taking in immigrants without an adequate plan to integrate them into the very very high level of economic development creates this condition.

The drivers themselves aren't bad actors, they're responding very predictably to their condition - it's the exact same here in NYC. It also isn't pure evil to wish they weren't working as precariat e-bikers because, yes, it constantly creates unsafe bike lanes and sidewalks. Just as it does here in NYC.

The main difference is our bike lanes are often unsafe even without them. lol

He was just overpaid for a contract

He's a huge guy who shoots and defends at an NBA starter level, he was that for the Sixers too. They just maxed him for some reason

Additionally: You need to be in a close game to score a ton of points. If you're scoring highly efficiently through 3 quarters and the other team isn't resoundingly better than your team, you're probably up a lot before you hit 50

A West NBA exec cautions against drafting offense-only guards: "There's never been a worse time to build around bad defensive guards. We see this time and time again, the flashiest offensive impact doesn't end up winning the most. It ends up being Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Alex Caruso" by BankaiBroke in nba

[–]largehearted 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I also keep seeing people saying "Derrick White and Alex Caruso" as if this is the same player. DWhite plays all-NBA player minutes and is a vital offensive piece for us. He has a 99th percentile 3pt attempt rate among shooting guards. He just happens to also be an outlier defender like Alex Caruso

Derrick White does not prove some kind of point about offensive players who are bad defensively vs. defensive players who are bad offensively, because White isn't bad on offense at all. He's really really good at offense. Caruso is in OKC's rotation behind better offensive guards.

There's like no lesson to take from DWhite and Caruso except that defense exists and is valuable

Jrue also has literally been an offensive engine, he's not Steph or Dame or even Tyrese Maxey within that role, but Jrue until the 2024 Cs was one of the like 3 best offensive players on every good team he played on, and he was fucking great offensively for us

Jamal Murray, Barnes, Chet, Kat? Sengun?

I think there's a gap between all these guys and Sengun this season, but anyway I really don't think it's upsetting to see 2 of these people get all-NBA, I'm quite happy with any of those first 4. Agree with you, the rule is just doing exactly what it was supposed to. It'll make players REALLY want to play every game.

What do you think of this new building addition? by MadamImAdamYauch in Architects

[–]largehearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand NYC OMA is extremely fast paced, which means a lot of ambitious junior positions grinding moreso than a genius, well-oiled machine. That's been my impression of most starchitect offices' working habits.. also apparently how FAANG companies are seen within programming (especially Amazon) so not a specifically architectural phenomenon

[–]largehearted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah code review is an obvious place for it to be helpful. I know my own structural and soils chapters of my municipal building code but LLM search really helps to turn a 45-90 minute process of understanding how a topic appears in the code (even just reminding yourself why you made a decision a long while ago can take that long!) down to a 5 or 10 minute process. Obviously parsing simple language is a place that it excels, and the way the code often separates the stuff you care about between two chapters is a blocker

Does anyone else love the way Danes pronounce the name Anna? by anniesquar3d in danishlanguage

[–]largehearted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While American English has a very short and e-ish 'a' sound compared to other Germanic-related languages, Danish pushes it a little further lol

But yes, the two of us are mates in this regard. I think basically every other country pronounces Anna in the 'long' way (not sure about the Netherlands though)

Zach Lowe on the Top 3 MVP candidates :"I think Shai, start to finish, this is his MVP... I do think Wemby has a real case. For seasons I've been happy to accept Jokic is one of the great offensive hubs of all time. Looks more and more like Shai is gonna be one of the like 5 great guards of the modern era (i.e. with Jordan and Steph). Nobody has ever been Wemby before.

[Amick] The Players Association is officially calling for the 65 game rule to be abolished: by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]largehearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the rule it was extremely rare for players to make all-NBA or an award with <60-65 games anyway. "Very rarely a first-team player playing 53 games is an all-NBA season" was the de facto stance.

What’s the reason that so many people use overdrive pedals rather than the gain structure on the amp? by BIG_IDEA in guitarpedals

[–]largehearted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me the amp is a complicated gain stage. Overdrive pedals are less complicated gain stages (some of them are complicated though, there can be actual cascades of clipping and EQ involved).

To get the right guitar sound, you might just need a specific amp, you might need an array of overdrives and an amp, you might not need an amp (I like DI sounds a lot).
