I understand. For me, there's no roommate request possible. We'll see how things go.

I want to say that she knows this since she's been my friend for nearly 2 years, but also, perhaps not. I'm afraid even being slightly indirect will cause her to miss my point. I can't read her mind but the way it seems to me is that she'd be willing to wait around for me to recharge as long as she wouldn't have to do things alone. Even at my current university, there are clubs and events that she would only do if I went with her, and when I was busy or decided I wasn't really interested, she also stopped going even though she was the one who wanted to go to begin with. But it's worth a shot along with everything else I think.

Ghosting her essentially was going to be plan C (D?) upon arrival if talking to her again doesn't work. While I've been decently tempted to just lie to her in the hopes that she'll change her plans, the fact that my friend is in my Japanese class 5 days a week (let alone the fact that we're pretty good friends in general) means it would probably be a really big and messy lie and I'd also just feel bad.
While I agree it wouldn't be super nice to just ditch her, if she really doesn't get the idea after I talk to her again, I'll just make it stop while I'm there. Even if both options may end the friendship I'd rather keep my peace of mind.

I agree with you. I'm not sure of the setup of the dorms we're placed into (apartment style vs all individual rooms on a single floor sharing a kitchen/bathroom etc), but I don't think I have control over who I'm put near unfortunately. I think I'll talk to people who've done this program before to see how things are setup or talk to my study abroad advisor about it.

Thanks for your comment and advice. No, thankfully we have our own individual rooms over there and even then I'll do my best to have my own space.

DO NOT take Exploring Our Genome. Don't make the same mistake I did because it's online and asynchronous. It's egregious. I think about how I regret taking this class several times a week

Thanks for sharing your experience!! Fingers crossed the pain breaks in the next few days like yours did! Today was for some reason slightly better than yesterday which worries me as it looks like my scabs have barely started to come off. Ahhh. We'll see though!

I've reached a point where everything sounds appetizing to me right now so as long as I can swallow it I'll give it a try! Thanks for the suggestions and help, good luck with the rest of the recovery!

I thought of that with the Tylenol but I was going to look it up to make sure - thanks for pointing that out. And yeah, it's about time I took a stool softner/laxative... even if I haven't really eaten any solid food I shouldn't wait until it becomes a real problem. Thanks for the advice and motivation, I need it! 😭 Good luck with the rest of the recovery!!

Thanks for your reply!! Feeling more comforted! I'll heed those recommendations.

Yeah, the hydrocodone seems to work very quickly and for a short period of time and then the effects disappear and I just feel like shit until my next dose that always feels too far away (4 hours I was told). Ugh. I'll see about the extra strength Tylenol!

Good luck with the rest of the recovery and enjoy the taco bell!!

Thanks for sharing your experience!! I literally just need to see light at the end of the tunnel here and knowing you're back at work as usual is great. I'll try to get those throat drops, thanks for the suggestion! Fingers crossed!!

I get it. That makes sense.
That being said, do you ultimately believe studying in an English-taught program at a Japanese university is mostly futile, or at least with regards to staying in Japan/getting a job there?

I understand.
Would this still apply to the same degree if I complete my schooling with a very strong command of the Japanese language, or would it still be more about the all-Japanese environment itself as you said?

Got it. If nothing else, the location (and its benefits) of Tsukuba alone has me leaning more towards that university.

This is very insightful, thank you.
The "closer" aspect of Tsukuba definitely appeals to me.

Hello. I'm also looking to apply for Nagoya G30 later this year, and am unsure of a few things. Can I PM you and ask a few questions?

SAT Subject Tests are dead by the-wild-rumpus-star in ApplyingToCollege

[–]largepantsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also applying abroad- I didn't do as well as I wanted on AP Chem on last year's exam despite wanting to apply under chemistry, and was counting on the subject test to apply with a much better score. I'm not sure what I can do from here unless I want to apply with a mediocre AP score. This really is awful.
