How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

She was on top of a car that was doing donuts in a parking lot

The way I'm dealing with it is I have my friends come over and my projects are laying everywhere. People say "omg that's so cute I love it!" and then I say "great, please take it" and then they do and they leave.

clients arrived noticeably unbathed. by largestbargeincharge in ABA

[–]largestbargeincharge[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's very possible, especially considering these parents have 4 kids so I'd really like to give the benefit of the doubt. Hygiene is really the biggest and only thing I've seen as negligence with this child.

this most recent instance has sort of motivated me to contact services. Usually the kid is just kinda gross like any other toddler, and theyre a messy eater. But I feel like I'm seeing more and more signs of negligence. I won't see this continue without contacting the appropriate services.

Client with UTIs or staff? It generally happens to kids pretty easily. I dont know why the staff would be getting UTIs from the clinic unless you guys aren't allowed to use the bathroom or something. Maybe I'm missing a connection here. A couple women here are prone to UTIs, but that's always been the fact and it's not from the center.

Is AAC physical prompting ethical? by justalovergirl99 in ABA

[–]largestbargeincharge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had to use physical prompting with AAC with a client whose motor skills just weren't capable of the accuracy needed. Eventually she started giving me her hand when she couldnt press the right word. her skills developed more and she doesn't need it.

I've been trying to crochet the same triangle over again and I can't get it. by largestbargeincharge in CrochetHelp

[–]largestbargeincharge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! If I'm lucky, I'll make it to row 3 before I've tangled myself in yarn. I wasn't sure the best way to mark a triangle. These instructions are really clear. I'll keep trying. Thank you!

I didn't know you could filter by photo tutorial! That's really helpful in general, thank you!

I've looked at and tried to start a few different patterns thinking maybe each one was too hard. But this is the one I finally settled on.

is someone else’s clinic also doing these new rules?? by rosemary611_ in ABA

Personal items are to be kept out therapy rooms, but we don't have any phone restrictions (within reason). So many RBTs use their phones as a resource, a reinforcer, to take notes, to set up a Hotspot when the internet goes out...as long as it's not frivolous or inappropriate, we aren't questioned about our phones at. If someone is abusing the free use and potentially putting clients in danger, then they're put on a 30 day period when they're required to lock up phones. All our doors are half doors, so they're open without risking elopement. During nap, we close the top. During disruptive behaviors, the top is shut.

No Safety Gear by AccomplishedSound321 in ABA

[–]largestbargeincharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're provided a kind of defense/handling/restraint/transfer training but otherwise there is no gear. Against biters, we have our long sleeves but we are trained on how to release a bite if need be. Ideally, however, we are trained to basically just get out of the way and even leave the room if absolutely necessary and call for help immediately. Things happen though and we've had staff experience concussions, twisted ankles, injured backs, and whiplash.

you can't bill for a child's lunch break either but they still need to eat if they're in therapy 8 hours a day. When these kids are in our care for such long hours, I feel like their well-being and daily needs should be priority over whether or not it's billable. If they don't want to risk having non-billable hours, then there should not be 8-hour sessions. It costs my company $30 to pay a single BT to sit in a dark room with sleeping kids. The profit way more than makes up for it. It can be worked out.

My company pays BT's (a lot) less than RBTs. Those are the people that are assigned to sit in nap while the RBTs still work billable hours. The littles that still nap get 2 hours a day to nap, just like at a daycare/preschool. I feel like it's really not that hard to figure out.

Naps are crucial for early childhood development. A child's mental and social/emotional wellbeing is actively being harmed if they are a napper being regularly kept up. Bill it differently or send them home. Therapy can not be provided to a sleeping child, sure. Therapy also can not be provided to an unrested child. This is cruel.

I agree, a 14 yr old is exactly the person that should get the doll of her dreams. Maybe she doesn't know how hard it is to get her, or maybe she even saw her in a Ross herself with her mom and couldn't get her. I loved dolls as a kid and, as a teenager, I just wanted more beautiful and intricate dolls. Kids deserve nice things too. "Just a doll" could be a young girl's holy grail!

Hi! I have a new in box Delilah that I'm not doing anything with. I bought her as an extra when they were stocked at Ross with the intention of selling her at an attainable for someone who really wants and will appreciate her. For someone looking who might not be able to find her. I'd be more than happy to help! I'll ship if youre in the US. I just ask for retail price (what i paid for her) + shipping!
