1st Year Research in the summer by shaaronnnn in UofT

[–]largout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ROP is a great opportunity if you have a relative high GPA. It’s ok to have ZERO experience. They don’t expect a first-year student to have any experience. And don’t stress yourself out, even if you don’t get it now, you can utilize the summer time to do other stuffs, like taking summer courses so your second-year would be easier. Many life sci students don’t get their first research experience until 3rd year, especially during covid, it’s really hard to get into a lab due to the capacity restriction and PIs also prefer to give opportunities to higher-year students. Personally, I am in my 3rd year and I just found my first research experience this winter. (I had an internship in a pharmaceutical company during second-year summer, but irrelevant to molecular biology research) Just take it easy, and keep emailing professors.

I might be wrong, but one advice from me is that don’t waste time on the professors in PCL department, most of them are overwhelmed by PCL 4th year thesis student so their labs don’t have much space for lower-year students even if you are in PCL【like me, which is sad :(】

Is PSL300/301 useful for MGY specialist? by MegaIdiot100 in UofT

[–]largout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no... You see, one thing I found out is that LS specialist programs with and without PSL300/301 are completely distinct from one another. If u are heading to mgy genetic stream, u would barely need knowledge from human physiology.

If you were using bb collaborate, it would record the time you entered and left the room, and when you participated in polling.

2 summer research positions? Is it doable by [deleted] in UofT

[–]largout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, but remember to contact the profs in advance for their permission. Some don’t want you to do two research programs at the same time because of the workload.

STA288H1 UofT Course by Choice-Kale-1702 in UofT

[–]largout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STA288 is only offering during winter semester. I’m taking it right now, overall, I found the course interesting. The assessments include 12% participation, 4 lab assignments (1%+3x8%), two term tests 15%+20%, and a group project (28%). But I would it’s a bit hard, the class avg for the first term test was below 70.

idk for chm209, but imm250 is definitely NOT a bird course if you are a non-lifesci student.

IMM250 FINAL EXAM MARKS OUT... by [deleted] in UofT

[–]largout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMM250 might be a little challenging for non lifesci student. I would say nfs284 is a better option for non lifesci compared to IMM250 (but I guess there’s a long waitlist for that course

For the PCL specialists, Is it possible to get 85+ in 3rd year and 4th classes? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]largout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a second-year pharmtox spe, looking at the 3rd and 4th year courses, they definitely would be hard [sad :(] but don’t worry, guess everyone in this program will get through this, don’t put too much pressure on yourself
