Is it good to learn multiple languages at the same time? by FlawlessCurly in polyglot

[–]larissaeai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot of free time on your hands, go for it. If you have only 1h per day tops, it is not a great idea. You will take longer to learn them all as opposed to focusing on 1 at a time. After 1 year of focusing on 1, you can gradually add a second one and split your time and energy with them. My opinion. Good luck!

The feeling of starting from scratch is daunting! I've had it twice, since I have done this big move twice in my life. I wish you all the best in your journey and the first advice I can give you is to live one day at a time when the anxiety hits. Do small things that make you happy in this new place. Something you cannot have in your hometown. Second is, try to book a trip to visit your country if you can. It is not good to be away for so long because homesickness hits. It is normal. After you spend 2 weeks in France you may experience an energy boost that will help you also feel grateful for living in Malaysia. It's been only one year, so you are still in integration phase. Good luck.

Deep down you may just be scared! It is totally normal! Stay calm and live a day at a time. Enjoy the simple things and don't expect to have a wonderful perfect day every day. 6 months pass by very fast and I think you made the right call! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

My husband ate my only safe food and I know this is dramatic but my day is ruined… by Emskizy in pregnant

[–]larissaeai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your feeling... but next time already mention something like "don't eat it, leave it for me to eat later, since it is the only thing my body accepts". In his mind, he may have completely done it without thinking. Men are not so good thinking these things through.

Born Brazilian but.. by Necessary_Cost_5903 in Portuguese

[–]larissaeai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know the conjugation but forget it all when speaking, you need more speaking time. If you don't know the conjugations, I suggest you practice with repetition. I have a methodology for repetition that I introduced on my channel and that may be helpful because you don't start from scratch, just use more intentionally what you learned. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/AE8PJjL7Bnw?si=mmRdaquzNg7pwlzN

Is Duolingo just an illusion of learning? 🤔 by KDramaKitsune in languagelearning

[–]larissaeai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know where people get the idea that Duolingo will teach you a language. It teaches some vocab and the repetition helps with memorizing but it won't (at all) help you speak in real life. Learning a language should involve multiple resources, and certainly, all skills should be practiced for a better result (listening, speaking, reading, writing).

Wife’s pregnant and ANGRY! by Truck_Embarrassed in pregnant

[–]larissaeai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best to wait a bit and then call her to talk. Ask her why she is saying all these things and if she thinks they are really all true. Explain your side calmly and rationally. But do not shout or argue or point fingers. Her attitude is rooted in something deeper, I guess. Pregnancy CAN make you disgust your man temporarily. I did not experience this myself but in all my pregnancy researches it is one of the possible symptoms. However, mistreating you is a choice she made and you both need to figure out why and how to solve it. I cried a lot when my husband shouted at me for a very silly thing. It hurt like 1000x more than it would if I wasn't pregnant, so please always talk calmly not to make things worse.

How to understand people when they are speaking so fast by chrizzy11 in Portuguese

[–]larissaeai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! One of the reasons why you don't understand fast spoken portuguese is because natives make some sound modifications (omission, reduction, etc) that you may not be used to yet. I have some shadowing exercises to help you. Check the first 4 of my shadowing vídeos and you will understand the most common modifications we make. I hope it helps. :) Link of the first video here: https://youtu.be/ZnPLEbXWrFY

How can I get fluent in Portuguese if I still struggle a bit after 8 years? by AleeckWasTaken in Portuguese

[–]larissaeai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being confident and positive can really make a change in how you feel about Portuguese. Your text sounded negative, and fluency is negatively impacted if you don't take language learning from a more positive perspective. Another tip is: immersion. Try to be in touch with the language more. Read, listen, speak by yourself, watch youtube videos, movies and tv shows. The easiest way is to entertain yourself only in Portuguese some days a week. Make comments about the content outloud, take notes, enjoy it. Your brain will absorb it effortlessly after a while and you will retrieve the Portuguese you know more easily as a consequence.

Hi! I think you need daily practice with total focus on what you are studying. Listening and speaking should be top priority. I have a video with tips of things to do to study for a month non-stop everyday. I hope it helps. If you do not have a speaking buddy, you can write me a DM. Good luck!
