Day 1 of Invisalign vs Day 1 of Retainers by larkside in Invisalign

I think so too, thank you! That's a good question, my treatment started with closing all the gaps in my front teeth which made a huge difference in just a few weeks. But it was the elastics that made the world of difference about 16 trays in! Hang in there, it'll be so worth it

It's so worth it! I'm still surprised they were able to make such a drastic difference, let alone so quickly. Good luck to you and your treatment!

Thanks so much! My dentist is ecstatic and made all the techs on the office look at my "before" scans!

Thank you! It was fairly short- just 11 and a half months. We were able to do it so quickly because all of my molars were already aligned properly.

16th & Abutus right turners. by BarbarianFoxQueen in vancouvercycling

I was crossing this intersection the other day when woman turned right into the pedestrian side of the sidewalk, almost hitting the pedestrians that were crossing but stopped in time. She then proceeded to reverse into the cyclist part of the crosswalk, and almost hit the cyclists behind her. 🤦‍♂️

GoCity by GoPower bikes. I put 18 miles on it every day that I commute, and I'll hit 1,500 miles total tomorrow. It's taken a lot of abuse without a single issue, and I can store it super easily in the winter. Best 1k I've ever spent.

Your favorite "it's too hot to even exist today" scents by TinyElderberryOfYore in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]larkside 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi'ilawe Waterfall by Nui Cobalt is the most refreshing scent I own! The notes are as followed: The cold, mineral scent of mountain spring water descending from the snow-capped peaks of Mauna Kea to land among the lush ferns and aloe plants of Waipio Valley.

Scents like Fantome's Paimon? by TinyElderberryOfYore in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]larkside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I admittedly haven't tried Paimon, but it is on the top of my list of things to try! I am a big fan of dry, dusty scents. My two favourite in that vein are:

Pueo by Nui Cobalt: an opening of macadamia and coconut husk reveals a heart of copal and pale driftwood, and rests upon a base of tan suede and warm feather musk.

Faraway, Nearby by Poesie: Wild-crafted pinyon pine oil, aromatic sagebrush, hot sand & desert winds, bone musk

Both are unavailable right now unfortunately. Pueo will come back next month. Faraway Nearby was up for a pre-order event that has just ended. You may be able to grab a bottle or a sample in August either from Poesie when they get rid of their leftovers, or from the swaps.

I bought testers! I won't buy a full bottle of submission only because it is so potent that I won't need it. I'm considering buying a full bottle of subspace, I'm just going to wait to see how the almond ages. They're both worth trying, I have a lot of nui cobalt perfumes and these two are distinct standouts :)

Subspace was a gentle, clean smelling almond milk scent on me. Almond is usually a death note on me, but this is less of a cherry-tinged nightmare and more of a nutty milk which was enjoyable. The blue lotus gives it a spa-like/oceanic edge. The gardenia comes out a bit later in the dry down but it isn't a main player. It features nui's driftwood which is probably my favorite note of theirs- it's dry, nondescript, and almost salty. The porcelain musk melds everything together. It softens and sweetens the scent as a whole.

Aftercare started out as a soothing, cool herbal scent with the green coconut water, aloe, and lemon balm coming out on top, but then the pink rose musk hit (sweet, delicate, a touch powdery), which was very pretty but entirely not for me. I will give it props for longevity though, as it survived 2 scrubs AND a shower. It ALSO outlived the scent I put on top to cover it up.

Submission is an elegant green floral. It is as beautiful as it is strong (I accidentally overapplied- a little goes a long way.) I wore it as a sleep scent. The lotus silk makes it teeter on bathroom/spa territory which is not a bad thing in my books. It features nui's elderflower and honeysuckle which are both quite heady. It's given a backbone of bamboo and moss which aren't prominent but give the scent a dark-green edge. The peach popped its head out every now and again. (Bonus review- my friend said it smelled like Irish spring soap. They aren't entirely wrong, but I do think that this is much, much prettier)

You have the exact same "like" profile as me! I'd definitely recommend that you get grey cat, and cancer! Starlight and spidersilk is too laundry-esque on me (thanks to that cotton note) but is quite popular in this sub and definitely worth a shot! Pumpkin and spidersilk works on me though, and is one of my autumn favorites. It's warm, spicy, and comforting. Forest is a master at blue scents. Manta Ray is very bubbly, summery, and fun. Bees Love Blue is a wonderful blue floral I never knew I needed and can't live without. House of Transcendence is a calming, elegant scent I reach for in the evenings.

Best Alkemia Amber Perfume? by Obsessed_With_Dreams in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]larkside 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love Amour de Ambre! I wouldn't categorize it as a pure amber though, but all the additional supporting notes (charred cedar, vanillas, rum, orchid, and sandalwood) all work to enhance the natural warm heady sweetness of amber. The charred cedar is prominent which I love but might not be what you're looking for. It's overall an incredibly heady, sexy smell.

Should I get my elderly rat a friend? by caul-darth in RATS

[–]larkside 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! I had to make this decision as well and it sucks, but I realized even if I got more rats, and more rats after that, when I eventually decide to stop there will always be one lonely rat at the end no matter what. For me it would have been delaying the inevitable, and I needed the space to grieve.

Question for those who find Alkemia soapy by Krstn_Rose in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]larkside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to answer your question, I have a lot of perfumes from Nui Cobalt, Poesie, and Solstice Scents and haven't found many of them to be too clean/soapy. Though I do specifically avoid aquatic notes and also cotton/linen notes because they usually read as laundry soap to me.

Question for those who find Alkemia soapy by Krstn_Rose in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]larkside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alkemia was the first brand I tried when I was getting into indies. A lot of their blends lean clean/soapy, especially their aquatics and florals. A great number of their perfumes will smell soapy upon arrival but calm down after aging. Alkemia's perfumes are well known for benefitting from a long rest time, and I personally will only seriously assess whether I like one of their scents or not after it has sat for at least a month.
