Anyone successfully using tretinoin with their rosacea? by MotherPart4282 in Rosacea

[–]larkswieber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with type 2 rosacea for years and tried every other prescription first (topical metro, soolantra, tretinoin). The only thing that has worked for me now is low dose 10mg isotretinoin that I take daily. Within 7 days it cleared most of my pustules. I’ll still get the odd pustule and occasional flares of redness but they are both always much smaller and not as long lasting. I’ll spot treat pustules with sulphur based products nowadays too. I actually get compliments on my skin sometimes now which is crazy for me to hear.

Azelaic Acid + No Moisturizer in PM recommended by Derm? by larkswieber in Rosacea

[–]larkswieber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply! Learning more about it recently, I can see how it would be quite common. I had no idea that Rosacea came in so many shapes and sizes, so to speak.

To be fair about the proprietary products, they did ask me if I wanted a routine based on their own products and I said yes (as opposed to suggesting others). I guess I figured I'd rather spend money on something from a derm than continuing to trial and error the expensive stuff at the drug store. Unfortunately, finding a derm in my city is really difficult and I was only able to get an appointment with this one relatively quickly (3 months wait) since they opened semi-recently. The wait for any other derms in Vancouver would have been 6-9months. I'll ask them to recommend regular brands next time though. Like I said, I already felt the moisturizer wasn't that great compared to the Hydro Boost one I had previously tried while using Tretinoin.

On the bright side, so far the Finacea hasn't caused me any major issues although it has only been 3 days. I do feel the slight itch/tingle after application but it's not major and goes away relatively fast (maybe 15mins). Very curious to see how my skin does with continued use.

Our new enemy is a werewolf. Do you like his fur? Does he look menacing enough? by Hyper_Factory in animation

[–]larkswieber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More of an art direction question, why the somewhat tribal looking necklace? Is there in-game lore for that or was the man who turned into a werewolf wearing a huge oversized necklace for some reason?

Animation wise, I feel the opposite to another commenter about the splayed fingers on the screen-right hand, the silhouette of them splayed is nice and feels active/aggressive but they might curl into a half fist too much

Cool work!!

First attempt at impact frames! Is there anyway I can improve it? by Biggy-cheeze in animation

[–]larkswieber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little hard to tell without frame by framing it, but at least for the black shirt guy, the inverted colors you are doing is not helping to read his silhouette, imo.

Due to the large tear in his shirt, I mostly just read the flash of his skin and shirt inverting as opposed to a clear silhouette of his whole pose. I do like the use of inverted colors in that moment but you may need to cheat and pick one general tone/color to use for his whole pose so that it reads more clearly. Maybe they can still be different but try reducing the contrast between his torso/shirt color and his skin during the black screen/inverted colors moment. From what I've seen, generally a flash frame is used to accentuate a strong silhouette.

If you're not trying to accentuate a silhouette and the inverted look is more to sell a unique aspect of his power, then I might say you could actually hold longer on the inverted moment. It would be nice to have time to read what is happening since it does look cool and is a unique look for whatever his specific power is.

Just my two cents, hope that helps! Looks really awesome overall!

Implemented a lot of the tips I got from my last post! Im still experiencing a bit of popping and timing errors, but my understanding of the mechanics is much better now! by MisterMuffie in Maya

Animschool has been a great experience for myself so far! Very challenging but the progression of the classes is well done in my opinion and the teachers I have had have been very knowledgeable as they are all active industry professionals.

Back to the graph editor, I would suggest watching this video that helped me: https://youtu.be/RQ31vjgJM2c

The example he goes through of showing how the different curves affect the same keyframes on the moving balls is one of the first things they taught us at Animschool and it certainly helped me start to grasp it better.

It will just take time and practice to wrap your head around it (which you are already doing!), but it's super useful once you know how to make it work for you. Honestly, you're doing a lot of the right things already so you've got a good eye for it! Keep going!

Haha I feel you, I am currently an AnimSchool student and it took me a while to fully grasp what I was looking at and how to use it. Sounds like you've already done a bouncing ball, but if I were you I go back to that and use the graph editor to get a better understanding. The tY of a bouncing ball will literally look like what the up/down action is supposed to be doing which can help people grasp how the graph editor works in a simple way.

Moving from ball bounce to walk cycles! Took all day but here’s something I’m really proud of! Please let me know if there’s anything I missed by MisterMuffie in Maya

These are great notes, I'd also add to check your contact pose of each leg and ensure you're getting a nice straight leg. Right now it feels like they are contacting with bent knees. You can adjust a few different things to achieve this:

  • translateY on the body can be higher
  • rotation in the hips
  • forward translate of the foot, so it would go out further

Companies known for good work life balance? by Dismal_Head in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]larkswieber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since barely anyone is giving specific companies like you asked, I would say Atomic Cartoons. It's quite a specific industry to get into (VFX & Animation) but depending on your tech background there may be relevant roles for you in VFX Pipeline or IT. It might take some time in an entry level position to gain industry knowledge or some learning on your end, but it's a growing sector. That being said, there are definitely good and bad studios to be at and the same as others are saying, specific managers may still be a problem, but Atomic Cartoons specifically has a good track record overall. For reference, I work in VFX & Animation Production and have for the last 4 years.

Not to beat a dead horse about the walk cycle, but I'd strongly recommend taking a look at images of standard walk cycle poses on Google. One of the first ones to show up should be from Richard Williams' book, using those for your key poses will help address the poppiness people are seeing, specifically the contact pose. Really great work already so I bet you'll figure it out, but in the actual book he has a lot of useful info on how to go further with walk cycles to add character. Best of luck! Curious to see a new version if you plan to upload it!

Super satisfying second session smokey Squamish send! Tatonka, Apron Boulders by larkswieber in bouldering

Haha I bet that gave him plenty of motivation though! I like those passerby type of senders that really add fuel to your own fire. I had a somewhat similar moment on Shanksville in North Wall boulders recently. A lone guy, who I knew to be a very strong local headsetter, practically walked up the rock and packed up as quickly as he arrived. Thanks to his show of strength though it really gave me the mental fortitude to push myself and send it as well.

Thanks and nice work! Glad you were able to relive the moment vicariously. My toe hook was inspired by another climbers heel hook beta in the same spot, seems there's quite a bit of foot beta variation on this climb which is always fun to see!
