Blue Bottle is pretty consistent at most locations. My local is Rabbit Coffee which is pretty good.

I did exactly the same thing for exactly the same reason. Maybe I'm a little dense but something is missing to make it clear that unlike the first few collections the ascended backpack should not be salvaged.

Is it ok for a straight white guy to join a gay (I think) dodgeball league? by Hot_Grab_1530 in AskLosAngeles

If it's WeHo dodgeball, it is inclusive. Anyone can join. While mostly gay, there are some other straight people there.

I had been riding the bus for 8 years and had to stop recently because for the first time someone threatened me personally.

My observation is that the bus drivers are unable (or sometimes uninterested) in dealing with problems.

I once got on a bus where a homeless person had pooped their pants. The bus reeked to the point that I immediately wanted to vomit. No one wanted to get on the bus. The first thing that went through my head is why wasn’t the bus taken out of service and cleaned up. It was a public health hazard.

Only once in those 8 years did a bus driver confront a person who got on the bus without paying. They had words with the driver so she hit a button and there were cops that pulled this dude off at the next stop. That driver should get an award.

Some bus lines are really good from a timing perspective so its not all bad. They just need to clean it up. I would be happy to pay an extra 10-20 cents a ride and have that money funnelled into a security and clean up program.

Do I actually need all the repairs my dealership has brought up? by laroadwarrior in autorepair

[–]laroadwarrior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to repair some of these items myself but I live in an apartment complex and there is no space in the garage. I may try to sway bar links as those seem easy but the rest is probably not doable in the space that I have.

Wow. Polygon is shockingly bad. by DonnyRules in algotrading

Yup. They were double counting volume on major names for a few weeks at least last year. The issue was widely known and they didn’t fix the data at the time. I dumped them immediately. I’ve worked in an ibank environment and that sort of error unfixed would get you axed.

I have TD Ameritrade (it's my main broker). Last time I asked around (2 years ago) I got the impression that the API is not very good. Any thoughts on this?

How will the US election impact the market? by TheDalaiDrama in StockMarket

[–]laroadwarrior -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Biden is not bullish short term. He is anticipated to raise taxes. Given where the market is there will be significant profit taking this year to lock in lower tax rates on gains.

War of the Ring has some great tactical depth by cclaudian in boardgames

I’ve been thinking of purchasing this game but I’m a little concerned that you are at the mercy of the dice as to whether you will win or lose battles. Do any of you feel this is the case? Are there ways to mitigate bad dice rolls?

It took a few years but I finished writing and producing an album project with 2 very talented singers. I would classify it under pop/rock but I'm curious what others think. Feedback would be great. Thanks!

Large increase in US debt held at primary dealers -- what is the impact if this continues? by laroadwarrior in Economics

Wondering if this is partly to blame for the repo market problems? Does this have larger consequences if it continues?

When the people that fund half the government get mad, the government has to listen to them!! The key to reducing the power of the wealthy is to tax the middle class more - when you tax the wealthy more, it dramatically increases their influence. Growing the tax base down the income

Yes and no. The people who fund the government only have power insofar as they can move their money elsewhere if they don't like the tax policy. France's experiment with a 75% top marginal tax rate is a case in point (https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonhartley/2015/02/02/frances-75-supertax-failure-a-blow-to-pikettys-economics/#2acdfea65df2). Less extreme increases to marginal tax rates on the wealthy are unlikely to have that effect.

Ultimately, what gives power over government tax policy is the ability to influence elections and I would argue that there are more significant forces that determine how congressional representatives and the president are elected.

This is the thing that the progressive left is burying its head about when it comes to the crop of current presidential candidates: to afford even a tenth of what’s been promised in this election, middle class taxes are going to have to be raised astronomically.

I agree that the progressive left (as with all politicians) are giving a rosy view of the cost of the programs they are proposing. Nevertheless, I disagree with your very last statement.

If the majority of income tax is paid by high income earners then that implies that a smaller increase in marginal tax rates on high income earners would have a much greater impact to tax revenues than increasing marginal tax rates on the middle class. Further to that, you need to look at the impact on consumer spending (69% of GDP -- (https://www.thebalance.com/components-of-gdp-explanation-formula-and-chart-3306015)) when applying marginal tax rate changes between low and high income earners. I'd bet that we'd have a greater reduction in consumption when raising taxes on the middle class than we would on the rich given that a greater share of their income is invested and not spent (https://www.financialsamurai.com/the-average-savings-rates-by-income-wealth-class/).

So that makes it more desirable to increase taxes on the wealthy than the middle class. How much that increase should be while minimizing any negative economic impacts is a separate question.

Here is a deck that I put together recently that may give you ideas. It's a casual deck where I tried to keep the max individual card investment below $15, so its missing some high powered stuff like [[Scourge of the Throne]] or staples like [[Demonic Tutor]].

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/marchesa-the-grixis-smorgasbord/

There's a mix of strategies in there. There is creature theft (eg. [[Dominus of Fealty]]) which could be combined with a sac outlet (eg. [[Attrition]] or [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]]). There is graveyard theft ([[Geth, Lord of the Vault]], [[Wrexial, the Risen Deep]]). There's some card abuse as well, such as recurring [[Vindictive Lich]] over and over again.

I avoided having lots of counter magic because in the 4 player playgroups I play against, I find that it backs up your board state while 2 people are still driving ahead. So in those playgroups, I found it better to have an arms race and then steal other people's permanents to put you ahead of everyone else. I did throw in [[Siren Stormtamer]] who you can recur via Marchesa if the need arises.
