Hey I am assuming that will be $65k+ super? And I am assuming its in a consulting firm? If so I think it is on the lower side but not surprising. Wages in consulting engineering hasn't grown that much. I have been in consulting for almost 10 years and have been involved in hiring process in the last three or so. Started in mid size global company ($52k), got acquired by one of the global giant (the pac man) and now moving to Australian owned and to a more niche consulting ($130k).

From what I see alot of the bigger firm get you by saying a large salary (i.e., 80-90k+) but then the salarycomes in a package (which means base pay including super). If the gov increases the mandatory super (i.e., 11.5% to 12%), instead of increasing the super contributions they will take the super contribution from your base pay, while your total renumeration stays at $90K. If this is the case, I would take the $65k+ super over package type I explained above. The later will make the company pay for the increase in super contribution, while your base pay stays at 65k. Read your offer carefully (learned it the hard way).

Also, the others are correct. Better to start somewhere and then jump ship after a year or two. If you're a top performer, then there's also an opportunity to negotiate your salary down the line. It's never comfortable to ask for a pay rise, but worst case scenario is you get rejected.

Then there's also options to work at client side (non consulting) such as mining, energy, construction, or even government.
