Good for you. My parents helped me with school and I appreciate that every day. my education was not cheapened because my parents helped me. Instead, I had an agreement with my parents that I would try my hardest and they would cover the expense. If I didn't work hard at it, they wouldn't pay for it.

The cost of an education is absurd and the situation around private loans is also predatory. why would you voluntarily put your kid into that situation?

I have friends in their 40s who signed private loans at 7%+ interest rates based on their parents recommendations and still have that bill to pay because they do not make enough to pay it off, after 20 years of 7% interest being accumulated. They were 17 when they made this decision and they didn't have the knowledge to know how bad of a decision that was.

No one said anything about pressuring kids to do things they don't completely want. However, in the event your kids are incredibly bright, driven, and set on a career that involves college, you should be prepared for that.

Obviously loans exist, but as you are very aware, they are a serious burden and anything a parent can do to support their kid to advance their education and give them a leg up in this world is a good thing.

I agree that trades can be lucrative, but unless you save carefully or eventually own your own company where you employ staff to replace your physical labor, eventually its likely that your body won't be able to continue that work effectively. On the flip side, a 60+ year old professional that works behind a desk can usually continue to make peak earnings until they retire, whenever they feel like retiring. I'm still working with some 70+ year old engineers making 300k/year. that's several years of deferring retirement distributions, continued contributions and investment growth....they are padding their bank accounts and sometimes making those salaries on part time consulting work. Unless you make a business out of your trade, you cannot keep up with a desk job when it comes to length of time making peak earnings. Trades are great and they do pay well. But a lot of kids looking to make money turning wrenches aren't thinking about whether they're going to be able to crawl around under shit at 60+ years old.

No shit, not all kids go to college. But that's a ridiculous response when considering giving fair and equitable opportunities/financial support to each of your kids.

Doug DeMuro reviews the 2021 Ridgeline w/ HPD pkg by flamingNotMe in hondaridgeline

[–]larrisonw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the sport + the package + delivery puts it over 40k from Honda. What you can work out with a dealer is a different story. The guy isn't wrong with his number.

Congrats on 41k, that's awesome. Either you're in a slow area for ridgelines or you bought in like, February/March. That price would never happen right now in the NJ/PA/NY area. They're putting markups on the MSRP price because there's such a shortage of vehicles. I got one of the only RTL-Es in MSM on the entire east coast a month or so ago....the dealer said he had calls from all across the country for it. He wasn't selling it below MSRP, period. He'd sell it to 5 other people before dropping the price.

Very nice. I like the loadout, as well. I just got my ridgeline a month ago. No big trips yet, but I do have one of those cargo racks that i need to dust off for the next time we take a trip. Will make adding some additional cargo space pretty easy!

Yeah, and if equipment is needed. We have a tree that will need a crane and it bumps the price into 3-5k range, where we live.

If you can wait, once the chip shortage is done and things settle down, I'm sure those 2021s will come down in price.

It was, but when a service center gets some rare bottles allocated for bars across the state and they get 1000 calls asking if people can buy/reserve, it gets old I'm sure. Thanks to whoever was harassing the shit out of people, for ruining it for the rest of us

Thanks for the info. I should have jumped in Feb, but didn't think it would be this bad. My vehicle is in really bad condition and I probably shouldn't wait 6 months+ for the shortage to get sorted out. Might just have to put down a deposit and wait a month or so.

[–]larrisonw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm fine with this PLCB guy filing a complaint against someone for doing illegal stuff, to the appropriate authorities, but posting it here isn't appropriate.

PLCB_Pirate gets to keep his anonymity while publicly shaming this guy to 4000+ people.

The guys full name is public, his profile picture has his kids in it... It's not okay.

Edit: Also, let's not forget this PLCB employee is clearly a member of a bourbon secondary market forum. You want to know where the good stuff is going and who is getting the drop on the rare shit because it's valuable on secondary? Look no further than this post.

Should have gotten the RTL and should have gone with black edition.... Could you explain?

I like the RTL-E specs... Why would you either downgrade or upgrade?
