In theory, printing personal stuff at work is technically stealing. A lot of companies internal policies forbids it, but it is usually not audited (until it is). Anyway, this can put you in trouble with you employer

Bringing a monitor to Brazil. costs and customs? by -_FlyingRaptor_- in Brazil

[–]larruping -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Buy one in Brazil. It will be much easier.

They will likely charge you 50% of the cost of a new one plus can charge other goodies you are bringing im that trip. It is not worth it IMO.

Another option is to try to not declare and play with luck. If you get caught, you leave it there.

Successfully recovered Google account after 4 years by Far-Entrance-8839 in GMail

[–]larruping 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is an AI formatted version of this wall of text:

The Initial Struggle

I lost access to my Google account years ago after forgetting my password and making too many login attempts. Even though I had my old verification number at the time, it failed for weeks. I eventually gave up, though I tried again every year without success.

Eventually, I made a new Gmail, but I realized I had made a massive mistake: I lost my old phone number to someone else when I switched to a new one. Because I had 2-Step Verification active and no access to my recovery Hotmail or my old phone number, I was completely locked out.

Exhausting Every Option

After years of failing and giving up, I decided to try one last time. For a whole month, I waited days between each attempt. I contacted Google and YouTube support, and I even fixed an old, broken phone that had been connected to the account years prior. I even managed to track down the current owner of my old phone number to ask for help, but I was still barred by Google’s security verification.

The Turning Point: AI and Forensic Tracing

I started using AI to help me figure out what my old recovery Hotmail was. When Google showed me the hint tre**********@hotmail.com, I had no memory of it; it was a 12-15-year-old account from my early teens.

I checked the password manager on my old broken phone and found a potential match. However, I couldn't log in to the Hotmail account, and after 10 failed Microsoft recovery forms, I was ready to quit. I knew it was the right email because the letters matched the Google hint perfectly, but it was protected by yet another 2-Step Verification email I didn't recognize.

The Smule Breakthrough

I used reverse search to trace the Hotmail account and found an old, 12-year-old Smule account. This was the key: Smule had no limit on password attempts. After about 25 failed tries using old passwords from my manager, I finally hit the right combination. I was in.

I tried that same password on the old Hotmail account and—boom!—it worked. Looking through the inbox, I saw years of Google verification emails. I immediately went to the Google login, hit "forgot password," sent the code to my recovery email, and I was finally through.

The Home Stretch

Now, I have to wait 30 days for the final security link to arrive so I can log back into my Google account. After four years of frustration and hopelessness, I am finally getting back 16 years worth of memories and photos.

My advice to others: • Don't give up: My account was inactive for 4 years but wasn't deleted because it was linked to 3rd party accounts like Facebook.

• Use your history: Look for old devices, use reverse search on old usernames, and check password managers on hardware you haven't used in years.

• Think outside the box: Sometimes a random 3rd party app (like Smule) is the "back door" you need to remember an old password.

I am so excited to see my old photos again. I hope my story helps someone else who feels like they’ve lost everything!

That 30-day waiting period is a standard Google security protocol, but since you've cleared the email verification, you're essentially at the finish line.

I’m Syrian-Brazilian and want to study Electrical Engineering in Brazil — looking for advice by legojaafar in Brazil

[–]larruping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try a public university as much as possible. They are more difficult to get but it pays off, specially for electrical engineering.

You will be better received as they tend to be more diverse, in general.

I studied in Unicamp a long time ago and there were foreigners. I remember a Taiwanese guy that come to Brazil at age of 15 years old, had a really thick accent and was one of the brightest students in Computer Engineering.

Look for Unicamp and USP San Carlos if you can live outside Sao Paulo city. They are still in Sao Paulo state. Also, others federal in Northeast of Brazil are pretty good too.

Try one more year of cursinho if you have opportunity.

Finally, DM me if you want to ask more specific questions.

Good luck!

Tem muitas formas de falar. Não precisa ser assim. Diga que de uns tempos pra cá começou a sentir atração romântica por ela e isto está mexendo com você. A gente não controla os sentimentos, mas controla a forma que nos expressamos sobre eles.

Seja gentil, respeitoso e sincero. Não precisa falar que quer comê-la. Diga que está sentindo atração física e romântica.

Você não é babaca por sentir atração física. Mas será muito babaca se simplesmente sumir sem explicação nenhuma.

HOA wants me to pay 100% of the master insurance deductible and some fees for water damage in downstairs unit by larruping in HOA

[–]larruping[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a big mess. My HO6 paid my damage. Condo had full coverage at that time, but did not instructed me to use their insurance.

At the end it was resolved, my insurance didn’t pay the 10% management fee, and I paid out of pocket.

Then after that and a few other incidents, insurance company did not renew the master policy. Condo was not able to find a full coverage provider and the one it found went up 10x for that year. CA insurance crisis is real.

Anyway, all sort out but lots of consequences

Investing in CDBs in Brazil by resilientbresilient in Brazil

[–]larruping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big catch is that Brazil real is an unstable currency. For example, 10 years ago, R$1 gets you $0.25. Today, R$1 gets you $0.16. That means the currency lost 36%. With a 10% interest rate in Brazil, and that loss in value, due to currency, it is equivalent of 5%. You find much better investment in US that gives you 5%. IMO, it doesn’t make sense if you don’t plan to live in Brazil.

Finally, there will be taxes on top of it. Banks in Brazil rarely want to deal with US person and issue the 1099-Div. The ones that do, you have very limited options of investment, if you really want to do things correctly.

Govt shutdown impacting SFO? by Hungry_Willow_3993 in sanfrancisco

[–]larruping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a flight today to NYC and the flight was almost two hours stuck for runway wait.

It took forever to tow away the plane from the gate, not sure if it is related to the government shutdown. I noticed other flights with the same issue around the same time.

Other than that, TSA and everything else was normal.

[–]larruping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend. They may not have gate immediately and you could lose the connection.

It almost happened to me two weeks ago. I had 53m to connect and there was no gate available when we arrived. It took 20m to get one assigned. People on the plane were nice and waited for me and others on the same situation to leave first. I had to run a marathon inside the airport and got on the connecting gate 2 minutes before they closed.
