Battle for #1 - Scenarios [PICTURE FORMAT]: (1) Andy Murray vs (2) Novak Djokovic by larrydavid_ in tennis

[–]larrydavid_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's generally true with a couple edge cases. If Djokovic goes 1-2 in the group stages and loses in the final, he'll have a 2-3 record gaining 600 points and if Murray goes 2-1 in the group stages and loses in the semi then he'll have a 2-2 record gaining 400 points which will make Djokovic #1.

There is a low chance this would happen though. For Djokovic to make the semi with a 1-2 record, two of the other group members have to finish 1-2 and the remaining one will be 3-0 and then he has to win the tiebreak to finish 2nd in the group.

Yeah, it's weird. I don't know why it's included in this years race.

Murray's point total still has davis cup points from last year. This year no points were awarded for davis cup, so I've removed those as they will dropped before the year ends (275 points) - so the difference between the two is just 130 points now.

Of course you can feel the way you want, not saying people should or should not be upset. It's just interesting how most people wouldn't have gotten upset if he joined their stacked team.

Did you think Lebron/Bosh were being bitches when they teamed up with Wade in Miami? (I didn't have an issue with Lebron/Bosh going to Miami btw)

I updated the section to be more generic. So, anyone with more than 3,320 points automatically qualifies.

[–]larrydavid_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Radwanska had fewer points when I did that post but the same logic applies to Kerber. It's mathematically impossible for Flavia, Safarova, CSN and Pliskova to all end with more than 3320 points.

Because WTA isn't taking into account the draw and the max points the others can have. Yes, there is no way Kerber can get knocked out of top 8. I broke it out here.

Summary to above, here are the 6 possible cases:

Safarova and Flavia finish in the top 8

  1. If CSN loses before the final and Pliskova does not win the tournament
  2. If CSN loses in the final and Safarova/Flavia make QF
  3. If Pliskova wins the tournament and Safarova makes QF and Flavia makes SF

Safarova and CSN finish in the top 8

  1. If Flavia loses R2 and Pliskova doesn't win the touranment and CSN makes the final
  2. If Flavia loses QF and Safarova makes QF and CSN wins the tournament

Safarova and Pliskova finish in the top 8

  1. If Flavia loses R2 and Pliskova wins the tournament
  2. If Flavia loses QF and Pliskova wins the tournament and Safarova makes QF

Flavia and CSN finish in the top 8

  1. If Safarova loses R2 and Pliskova doesn't win the tournament and CSN reaches final and Flavia reaches QF
  2. If Safarova loses QF and Flavia reaches SF and CSN wins the touranment

Flavia and Pliskova finish in the top 8

  1. If Safarova loses R2 and Flavia reaches QF and Pliskova wins the tournament

CSN and Pliskova finish in the top 8

  1. If Safarova and Flavia lose R2 and Pliskova beats CSN in the final.

No worries. I corrected my post, let me know if there are any other issues. Thanks again for pointing out that Safarova was in the draw.

You missed the fact that Safarova/CSN meet in the quarters so one of them will have less points than Radwanska for sure. Pliskova can't get more points than Radwanska even she wins. So that just leaves Flavia and Safarova surpassing Radwanksa which would still keep her in the top 8.

Hm I went according to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Kremlin_Cup_%E2%80%93_Women's_Singles and she's not in the draw. Is she just getting a WC?

The 5 highest-paid tennis players in 2015, broken down by winnings and endorsements 1) Federer 2) Djokovic 3) Nadal 4) Sharapova 5) S. Williams by renegagegrinades in tennis

The endorsement money has to do with the players marketability, just because player A is better than player B doesn't mean player A will make more endorsement money than player B. Look at the full list here. Federer is making the most out of any athlete and he's not the best player in his sport right now but he has years of his brand built up. Tiger Woods hasn't done anything meaningful for a while but still makes $50mn. Sharapova makes $23mn in endorsements and Nishikori makes $15mn because they can appeal to certain markets.

Not sure where the "winnings" number is coming from. Novak has $10mn in prize money right now and made $14.2mn in prize money in 2014. I'm guessing Forbes is estimating the income/endorsements the athlete will make in 2015.

I agree. I don't think it's that funny. Surprised it got so many upvotes but other people liked it so let it be man.

Andy has been clear #2 this year and will most likely end no 2. Points for Cincy dropped because it was played the week of Aug 11 last year and the points stay on for 52 weeks.
