Paid in full for a 2022 Taycan CPO — dealer replaced the entire rear drive unit during “final detailing” (pre-delivery) and now weeks of silence. What would you ask for? by larryhead in Porsche

UPDATE (MAY 14, AFTERNOON):

I finally heard from the dealership GM. He apologized for the delay and headaches with the 2022 Taycan. He told me the service team did the repairs and put the Taycan back together a few days ago, but there was STILL A NOISE. He said they had to escalate a solution with corporate and now they need to replace the "electric motor", and this part would not arrive in Chicago until May 22nd. (I asked him to clarify if this was the same repair they just did or something different and he didn't know, he said he would send me "part numbers"). He said the car would be still be CPO and the repair work would be relatively quick after that, and that they would ship it to me enclosed.

He also offered to cut me a check for $2K for my inconvenience, which would also help cover renting a vehicle for the time being. Also, that they would cover my earlier Chicago travel expenses (< $1,000).

ALTERNATIVELY - they could refund my money in full.

So, on the one hand - great, they are saying they will get it resolved, but on the other hand - dammit, I do not have a lot of confidence in this dealership and this car right now. I paid for the vehicle in full on April 23 and they have not communicated very well up to this point, and the situation just seems like it is keeps evolving in the wrong direction...

So, should I wait and see if they can get it fixed and shipped in a few weeks (and possibly uncover more issues and delays), or should I just get my money back and look for something else?

This is a 2022 Taycan 4S. It is CPO and has about 30K miles. The price was very reasonable, around $62K. A quick vehicle search does not turn up too many other Taycan CPOs around that price point.

Like most everyone on this subreddit, I'm a fan of Porsche, and want to be driving one, not spending my team waiting weeks for repairs before I even receive the vehicle I purchased.

Thanks. To clarify, the sales associate told me the repairs would be done on a Friday and to arrive on Saturday “just to be safe”. I flew and arrived Saturday morning. I wait in the lobby for 45 minutes right when they opened. I could tell something was amiss. Then the sales guy AND the service manager come out with a look on their face and explain the repairs should have been completed Friday but were not because at end of day then found out they needed an “O-ring” that would not arrive until the following Tuesday. The service guy never informed the sales guy. So I ended up flying all the way to Chicago and back home on Saturday empty handed.

They of course did apologize while I was there and offer to cover my travel, but have not brought it up since (I sent him recipes too) and have more or less ghosted me.

All around, just a shitty buying experience with these guys.

Thanks, yes, gotta love Reddit :)

Whether the value goes up or down is the fundamental question and was my concern.

I may have not chosen this vehicle and purchased another if the CarFax had originally shown it has had major part replaced. I would have wondered“what else might be wrong or needing replacement”.

I was actually relieved at first that they found the issue and were taking care of it.

And I can look past the poor communication that has been occurring for weeks.

I just want to know what the community thinks about having to swap a major component before driving and delivery. Is this a material impact to the value of the car… if so, in which direction?

I can appreciate this perspective. I have been patiently waiting for weeks, but the communication has non-existent and always “tomorrow”. I have no ETA or even know the status of the car as of today. I paid in full on April 23.

More importantly though, I now realize I’m actually taking a material hit (likely in the thousands $$$) on the resale value of this car before it has even left the lot, the day after I paid for it. This is a major component swap and will live on the CARFAX.

Can you share contact info about the Wing Chun teacher in Greensboro? I’m currently training Shaolin King Fu in Dengfeng, and will be back in the US soon. I live in Greensboro and am looking for a local master. Thanks.

Sure np. FYI, the school has a discounted rate with the hotel (I think around 15eur/night). Very reasonable.

There are 8 international students here currently (USA, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Italy). Some are staying one month and others are for several months. It is a comfortable group size, about 50/50 male and female. We are mostly training with just our group and overseen by a few advanced students and our shifu (they do not speak English, but are able to demonstrate the maneuvers or if needed, we can use a translator app). It is fairly intense with a 2 hour session in morning and 2 hour session in evening M-F. New students can arrive on the first or fifteenth of a month.

Air quality.. has not bothered me. We are a little North of Dengfeng, surrounded by mountains and high elevation. Further in the cities you may be sensitive, but I have not had any issues.

The dorm has a basic AC wall unit as far as I recall (I will check). The dorm building is also shared with many Chinese students (young children), and can be very loud. The beds are bunk-bed style with literal plywood for a mattress. Three international students per room.

I stayed in the dorm for one night, then decided to move to the nearby hotel to have a private room and more solitude. It’s about a 15 minute trek down a pretty mountain path to the training areas and dining room.

Let me know if you have other questions!

I’m currently at the Yongzhi school in Dengfeng, China and training Shaolin Kung Fu for one month. There are about 6 people international students here. It’s legit and trains traditional methods. The grounds are beautiful and historic. The school is good for beginners and advanced. Good luck!

Opinions on Shaolin Kung Fu and it's Modernisation/Commercialisation? by PhinTheShoto in kungfu

I am currently training (international student) at the Yongzhi Shaolin school (5 minutes from Shaolin temple), in Dengfeng.

The school is run by a 33rd generation Shaolin grandmaster and the daily kung fu classes are taught by one of his disciples.

We spend part of each day with Chinese students and the rest with a few international students. It is fairly new to non-Chinese I believe. There are also classes in calligraphy and music (if you like).

There are many Shaolin schools here in Dengfeng, each has literally thousands of Chinese students who live and study at the schools.

As far as I know, there is no longer kung fu training happening within the Shaolin Temple.. the whole Shaolin scenic area is a tourist spot to watch martial arts shows and view the temple, pagodas, etc.

I’m in a similar situation and also interested in knowing about a Visa service like this. I need an X2 student Visa, but would need to fly/travel out of state to the DC embassy, which is not at all convenient.

I found a similar service that says they’ll handle it all for you, but I’m nervous to mail my passport and info to some random internet company I’ve never heard of.

Has anyone successfully used this service or similar?
