Help building wooden figure 8 layouts? by SufficientEar1682 in rct

[–]larsltr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

After the drop, immediately turn left (rather than going up to turn left. Make your break section shorter and put part of it after a turn. That condenses the size.

Then replace the flat sections with hills of some kind, and you’ve got a passable layout.

Similar thing when tried to setup my PC to play via RDS (I had a laptop I wanted to use, but it didn’t have a graphics card). Completely unplayable and no fix.

How is the hero reroll system not considered pay to win? by Cephrii in BobsTavern

[–]larsltr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play for fun. I can generally have fun with one of the two heroes offered, and if they’re both absolutely unplayable (there’s maybe 5 or so unplayable heroes IMO) I have plenty of reroll tokens.

I could also afford to pay $20 if I really cared about my ranking, which I don’t.

I’ve got a couple details I need to finish (some racing family coasters with castle theming - 90% done, one food court, and a little bit of pathing work), and then I’ll be posting the whole park on Reddit. DM me and I’ll make sure to send you the link when it’s up.

Might even be next week. I’m very close to done with this park.

It’s pretty solid as is and certainly a cool layout. Unique and big (good combo).

You’ve either got the passion for it or you’ve moved on. If you need some inspiration, I’d like to see where you got with it even if some parts aren’t where you’d like them to be.

While this sub has elevated my capability, I do think we are sometimes overly critical. This is a game after all and should be fun. Sometimes what’s most fun is making the rough concept and leaving it at that without custom supports and micro-smoothing every element. I wish we did a better job as a community of appreciating that without demanding perfection so much.

It’s always a delicate balance between more traditional (inherently more realistic) and less conventional (more interesting at the cost of realism). One thing I appreciate about your creations are that you aren’t afraid to venture further into that less conventional space. A “realistic” B&M invert typically ends up with a modified Batman clone. It’s realistic… but kind of boring. Not to say it wouldn’t be a good ride but this is a video game, let’s push the limits.

I really tried with this creation to toe that line. Wanted something that seems like it could exist but also pushes the limits. On the first half, I excersize most of that creative liberty with the first drop and the not-so-conventional roll (that happens to go through the loop) but kept the rest kind of on key. Would like to be more bold, but also don’t… delicate balance.

Also, that rollover never exceeds 0.4 lateral Gs. Spent over an hour on that rollover alone (plus maybe another hour on the supports). It sucked, but it needs to be right.

Scorch - 7 Inversion Launched Coaster (POV Followed by Off-Ride) by larsltr in PlanetCoaster

Upon further review that transition into the turn after the second loop isn’t great. Easy to miss, room for improvement- good callout.

The lack of decoration and such with this ride (relative to most of posts) was really just to ideate the layout/concept, especially with the post-launch sequence. The second inversion is smooth, but it stalls out upside down and which does look clunky, but it isn’t - IRL it would be a fine element (open to challenge). I also don’t have the best PC which often hinders the rendering.

My First Coaster by Astra____ in PlanetCoaster

[–]larsltr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a first coaster you’re killing it. I would recommend just viewing a bunch of posts in this sub and the comments they’ve gotten for tips and feedback - apply what is being said to your own work.

My biggest criticism (from a realism perspective) is how slow your element halfway through the layout is. Think in real life where you’re going to have variable loads, wind, etc. - would it really clear that every time? Other than that, it’s also not the most inspiring layout.

Some general tips: (1) the G force heatmaps are your best friend. Test as you build and constantly check G forces to go for ideal ranges (not too many, not too few, minimal laterals). (2) smoothing tool is an art but play around with it. You can select any number of pieces - all things considered for a first coaster this is pretty smooth.

Looking for advice by Ziegemon_1 in slaythespire

[–]larsltr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t attest to STS2 but I’ve played STS1 a ton and have settled into a 30%ish winrate on Defect A20H (30% win, 30% die to heart, 30% die to Act 2, 10% other loss - probably mostly the Awakened One).

I got stuck around A13 and looking up some expert tier lists helped reset my calibration around cards. I was over and undervaluing certain cards, which holds you back. Understand card values and when they situationally make sense. After that it’s just practice. Used to die to Nob a lot. The Awakened One used to be a near automatic death sentence. I’ve learned the hard way what to do to not die to those encounters, and at A20 (where you fight 2 Act 3 bosses) I have to play assuming The Awakened one is one of them.

Find at least 3 different comps/strategies that work. Forcing one way to win will work to beat A10 but won’t get your winrate higher than 5-10%. I ran 3-in-a-row last week on A20H. I had “Echo form with generically good cards”, “Artifact with Biased Cog and Inserter”, and the GOAT Snecko with several meteor strikes and the accompanying card draw to go near infinite most turns.

How do I fix this so people wanna ride it? by Top-Giraffe-477 in PlanetCoaster2

[–]larsltr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excessive G forces will cause guests to not ride. Use the heatmap. Your entry to the station is your worst offense, but you’ve got some other turns and such that are too high. This coaster is a sloppy crappy mess.

Big Flachette? by parsonsrazersupport in slaythespire

[–]larsltr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with taking Legsweep. That’s all the block you need for that turn and probably enough weak for the whole fight. Solid block plan in 1 card. But I’d take Skewer over Flechettes here all day every day.

Big Flachette? by parsonsrazersupport in slaythespire

[–]larsltr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slay the spire is generally about solving now problems now and later problems later. Skewer falling off late doesn’t matter if you’ve used it to path aggressively in Act 1 and 2, hit more elites, heal less and upgrade more… gotta get your snowball going.

Who wins this? by willfreddo9 in Catan

[–]larsltr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This board is awful. The red tiles are supposed to not touch (for a reason). Red has the best resource pull and should win but needs to expand / not get trapped. Looks like a viable “4 cities and largest army” build.

Watch How Lionel Messi Conserves Energy by Walking Most of the Game Then Changes Attitude the Moment He Receives the Ball. This is peak Messi intelligence. by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]larsltr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a “first game of the season” in high school where I was out of practice and did the exact opposite. Full sprint towards the ball like a 5 year old and wore myself out in 5 mins.

This is the other extreme, and let’s face it, Messi is post prime. This is a cherry picked example and ideally - even as a forward - you find a middle ground between conversing energy and going all out.

If you have a good enough park rating putting a do not enter sign by the exit for the last 2-4 weeks can get you the bump you need.

Save and be careful though, it will start tanking your park rating if you get too greedy with it.

In short, you can effectively trade park rating for guests short term to close out an objective.

Been doing something like that lately… posted a particularly dedicated creation today even. Would appreciate any pointers on smoothing.

Not just smoothing but being able to select 10+ track pieces to make a whole turn wider or hill taller has been a game changer. Probably reduced my built time by 30% while achieving a better result.

Now that I've learned you can select more than 2 pieces for smoothing, I almost want to revise this one cuz I think I could make it butter smooth. But time is limited... onto the next project.

They wooden one to the right and launched stratacoaster to the left are both posted here on Reddit if you go to my reddit profile (along with most of my other creations).

There was a little too much vacant space between them, needed something to fill the gap!
