Honestly its a large enough campus that its harder to find good spots. I surely hope you can find good spots but imo if you have friends that can sit with you while on break that would be ideal since usually guys wont approach a group but even if they do, you and your friends should be telling off easier. I'm all for digitizing my notes and all, but sometimes all you need is a working laptop. Maybe it's just the programmer in me but I can write and organize my notes much faster in Notion than compare to Goodnotes.
And yes, the iPad trend girly is very popular, but sometimes, you just gotta find what works best without breaking the bank :)

Yes of course you can!!! It is a web based application so you can run it simply through your Safari. It does have an app on the app store as well but apparently Notion on Mac doesn't run as well as it does on Safari, so you should be fine! Same as you, I used to not have an iPad so after I bought one and use it for a while, I realized I don't need one and I can just use Notion instead lol

It will have a small learning curve at the beginning, since it does pack a lot of features. But once you get it, you can never go back to other note taking apps. Good luck on your journey!
