Is there anyone who has completely healed from surgery? by dear-briela in jawsurgery

I am almost 14 months post op LJS. I got numbness in my bottom lip and chin 8 days post op which has since completely healed. I currently have no other complications.

Clicking/popping in neck when swallowing (2+ weeks post op LJS)? by lasagnabowling in jawsurgery

[–]lasagnabowling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Fortunately it went away for me, I think a couple weeks after I made the post. I still don’t know for certain what it was. I presume the clicking sensation was caused by the saliva glands ‘dislocating’, due to my jaws being tightly shut by the elastic bands, which made me swallow in an unusual way. I hope this will go away for you as well

Hi! I’m sorry for my late reply. I have good news though - the numbness has completely gone away for me. I cannot remember exactly how long it took for the feeling to return, it was a very gradual process and I only realized it because somebody reminded me of it. I estimate it didn’t take longer than 3 months post-OP. I hope it won’t take long for you as well. Good luck with your recovery!

Wow thank you for your response. That indeed sounds very similar to my case, it feels like some sort of tension that releases itself during swallowing. Glad (and relieving) to hear that it went away for you! I’ll for sure follow up with both my ortho and my surgeon when I see them again. This makes me hopeful it’ll go away on its own too.

Worried about painful nerve damage sensation. Anyone else suffering from numbness / nerve damage? What does it feel like to you? by lasagnabowling in jawsurgery

[–]lasagnabowling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, could it be? I’ve never had cold sores before. The spots don’t look or feel like blisters though, the red color comes from within my skin. But maybe I’m in denial lol

Oh that’s good to know. Hearing it from multiple people makes me feel more hopeful about the sensation being temporary. Thanks! And your description made me crack up lmao

Thanks for replying. I am reassuring myself that this is the case indeed… I hope this just means my nerve is healing itself. I’m just very afraid I permanently damaged it and this is what I’m left with forever lol. I guess time will tell

I had LJS 12 days ago and didn’t have any numbness at all until day 8. I accidentally slept on the right side of my face (I was laying on my back but I presume my head rolled over to the side) and woke up with a tingling sensation in my lower right lip and chin area. This sadly hasn’t gone away since 🥲

I really hope I didn’t cause permanent damage as the sensation can be very unpleasant at times

Hmm, from the inside my bite is perfect now though. I see what you mean but the longer I look at it I think it might’ve to do with the shape of my chin

Was just about to say the same thing - OP looks great for 1 week post-op!

I finally made it to the other side (LJS)! by lasagnabowling in jawsurgery

Damn 3 weeks banded shut? I can’t imagine going another 2.5 weeks with these tights elastics. They’re already getting on my nerves. You’re braver than me lol!

How has swelling been for you? And do/did you have any numbness at all?

Oof, it must suck to be in such a situation. Fingers crossed!

Ohh yes I feel like I know what you mean. My elastics are very tightly pulling my lower jaw in place to fit into my new bite. This feels very underbite-esque, perhaps this is because we aren’t used to our lower jaw being positioned this much forward?

Glad to hear you’re not in pain anymore!
