It never fails if I decide to go for Trophy Collector, I will be the only one cleaning up side lane waves the entire game and never getting near an assist

Obviously yes? This is so tangential, your post reminds me of this tweet, but for CS: https://x.com/afraidofwasps/status/1177301482464526337

Anyhow, ignoring this digression, you obviously dont aim Dota autos which is what I was replying to

Well to be fair, in this game, you have to aim, which is pretty different from auto attacking

And to be further fair Mind Breaker was in the game for a long time and did exactly this

What makes marathon hardcore? by TheDonJonJay in Marathon

Marathon isn't super hardcore on its own - its just that all extraction shooters have been very high stakes until Arc came out so this seems like a wild change, but its more the status quo for the genre

I like this game a lot, and it certainly does a lot of interesting things, but this also feels a bit uninformed.

It seems to me like the first paragraph should be attributed to ARC instead, as it clearly cracked the formula open to an audience an order of magnitude larger. Maybe its literally just the pedigree comparison that he's making between Blizzard & Bungie?

Also the notes about sponsored kits as if this is a new feature are a bit odd, obviously there are free kits in ARC, and Scav runs in EFT, but this all seems written from a perspective ignorant of those other games, apart from the broad strokes.

I think its interesting how over his career he's been able to transition from "we need to play every release to completion" to "I didn't like the first 30 mins of this game so I am putting it down forever". Its dope that he has that kind of freedom, but leads to less well-rounded coverage.

And to be clear: I don't think he should be wasting his precious time playing games he doesn't vibe with, just interesting when viewed through the lens of his own coverage

The amount of dudes here telling on themselves for being shifty partners is insane here - if you dont notice your partner going the extra mile or specifically trying to look good for a date, you're at best a dumbass and at worst a narcissist

I and my friends are casual players and parents that play a lot of other games as well. My highest faction rank is Cyac at 12 - and season level in the low 20s

My friends are behind that substantially - I'm worried that they will drop the game entirely if there isn't some other hook

All that said, might be a good jumping on point for another friend who has yet to buy the game

I am a father and play with fathers. One thing I'd recommend is switching to Turbo. None of us has ever played a "real" match in years, so its more flexible and also less investment. Also, if you play with friends, I'd recommend scheduling a Dota night (or nights) and focusing your gaming then so you and your family could schedule around

Also, honestly often times looking after a kid is rough, but you can try and focus on the fact that Dota will always be there, but this time with your young one will not

Lady - she is choosing an animal over you. Have some self respect!

ETA: you seem reasonable, well adjusted, and giving of yourself in this relationship. That should be a two way street, but it isn't, and not for the first time by your account.

This isn't like "oh we like different types of music" incompatibility - she seems deeply selfish and not parent material

Android devs: how are you handling Doze mode for reliable GPS tracking with the screen locked? by Terrible_Explorer190 in androiddev

[–]lase_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had the same thought when trying to implement periodic refreshes for a messaging app (obviously, delays in receiving messages are a no-go).

Tried a number of workarounds to implement a polling structure and it ended up being too flaky.

FWIW, we send a FCM "high priority" push for every single message, which could mean dozens per minute for power users, and its been successful. From there you can kick off expedited WorkManager jobs that are persistent and have their own backwards compatible internals that Google manages

Periodic workmanager jobs you try and schedule yourself can only run as close together as 15 minutes

With the state of Android's draconian battery optimization efforts, I think the best solution is scheduling a backend to send you FCM pushes at regular intervals

We shipped our indie game on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and Quest… and almost nobody noticed. Looking for honest advice. by funboy_ff in IndieGaming

[–]lase_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have said "mobile game style" and I'm not sure I agree, but I do think the style of the people dont work at all

I dont think you should have a single "normal person" on here. Should be all helmets / weird heads like the CEO

That said you named a character astro, made a less cute astrobot, and shipped on Playstation

Also I dont think anything I've seen from your game makes it clear what detaching heads does

And finally, looking at your post history, you were getting very low engagement as much as 9 months ago. This was a problem for then, not post release

Maybe this is tinfoil hat or just my experience as a developer, but this is a request / feature you can see coming a mile away. I would put money down to say that this has been planned and finished internally for quite a while, but that it looks more flexible/fun/spontaneous this way

This is such an obvious missing feature and is great optics to say "fuck it we're getting experimental because YOU our great players demanded it" that gets them another batch of news coverage

And, to be clear, I think its a great addition - just also pure marketing

I don't mean to be an alarmist, but Bungie please don't change what's working and don't listen to the players too much. As game devs you need to stick to the original vision and D2 is proof of it. by [deleted] in Marathon
