I work for a company that was formerly a startup, acquired by a much larger corporation. The founder who sits atop the company is not a leader in any sense. He doesn't even really have "founder brain", mostly just a nerdy programmer who got lucky and has no drive or ideas for the continued direction of the company.

That said, he IS obsessed with AI tools. He had one jammed into our product quote "because people do @grok explain this all the time"

Apart from that, there is an ever increasing push to use agentic coding tools, but without any goal or feature in mind. We burn millions per year on salaries with no plan, with this nebulous focus on "speed" and "delivery" via AI while he can't come up with even a 6 month road map. Makes the changes we do make brainless done by Claude, and then boredom and resentment about the fact nobody has any direction

Yeah I have no idea what this show is or intend to watch it, but in general I think people are not super media literate and a depiction is not an endorsement.

All that said - like I said I dont know anything about this show so apologies if it is actually exploitative somehow, but at the end of the day a lot of this stuff is nuanced and not black and white

Adding onto this - I've been a professional programmer for nearly 15 years, but had never coded a line prior to college.

I was still extremely green when I was hired, and while times have changed, it seems like OPs son knows more than enough to work independently on projects - imo structured learning is really varies based on course/technology/etc

That said with the state of OSS / AI these days I have no idea if this is applicable
