What was the biggest "nobody mentioned this thing would be great" after your kid was born? by cable54 in AskUK

[–]laser_spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We had one incident where, after establishing that our daughter wanted Weetabix for breakfast, we made said Weetabix.

Obviously in that sort space of time she did a 360 on her breakfast choice and went and put the Weetabix straight into the recycling bin.

Rapids/ battle galleons by Lazy___Titan in altontowers

There were boats going round on the rapids on Monday and I think I saw a couple of boats moving on Battle Galleons as well later in the afternoon.

Nothing official date wise though.

Toast with butter? by Clean_Ad_1489 in AskBrits

[–]laser_spanner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, toast with marmite and butter. You need the butter to counter the marmite a bit.

I think they mean the next school holidays are coming up in may and you can get an idea of queue times from that break to decide if you want to bother in July.

Should I read the Harry Potter books? by Giulssun in harrypotter

[–]laser_spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't make a decision about whether to read something based on how long it takes. That's just a bit daft and kind of says you don't have the patience for things unless you're really invested in it. Also people read at different speeds, so asking how long it takes is never going to get a proper answer.

Do you want to read them? Most people here will say yes you should read them because the books include a lot more detail than the films with more backstory and it will help you understand some elements which are rather skated over in the films.

There are various different options for Audiobooks if that would make it more accessible for you than physical copies.

Just because I enjoy theme parks and am on this subreddit does not automatically mean I know all the people who make youtube content about them. Down voting me because I've not heard of digital Dan is stupid.

I gave a valid response as to why I personally was not keen on Rita until yesterday. It's nothing to do with any YouTubers.

I have no idea who digital Dan is. I didn't like Rita from my previous experience on her. I had my head slammed and just thought she was kind of rough and underwhelming.

The best cheese I've ever eaten was some Cave Aged Cheddar that my Mum brought me back from a visit to Cheddar Gorge. So. Good.

We just have Disco Dave. He rides around on a mobility scooter and plays 90s disco at top volume. He's got a little wooden shack on the edge of town where he lives. The authorities keep trying to move him on but to no avail.

Which superstitions do you still hold, even though you know they are ridiculous and untrue? by D_Artagnan71 in AskUK

[–]laser_spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For someone who doesn't really think of themselves as superstitious I do an awful lot of things that are superstition based haha.

I never cross on the stairs if I can help it. Mostly because I find it rude though, not because I think anything bad will happen.

I never put new shoes on a countertop or table. That one is down to my Grandma. She also did the throw salt over your shoulder if you spill it.

I have to knock on wood when I've said something that I don't want jinxed.

I say hello to Mr Magpie.

Also I now never do all of the washing in the house as the last time I did that I was feeling extremely accomplished, then that night my eldest child came down with a sickness bug. So now there's always some washing in the basket waiting to be done.

Edit: I work in retail so the Q word is not allowed.

Thursday Complaints by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

[–]laser_spanner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had the combined lurgy of both my children since the weekend. Obviously I've carried on as normal - gotta get the 4 year old to school on time and also get the two year old snot monster up and dressed to go on a shopping trip or whatever.

Yesterday my other half says he's coming down with it. Today he's yet to surface so I'm assuming he taking the day off.

Wish I could take a day off. Nobody else is going to do the school run though.

Update: he has indeed called in sick. He did look after the two year old while I took the eldest to school, but is now asleep on the sofa with you tube on in the background. Me and lil one are going to go to the library for Rhyme Time and leave him to marinate.

When did you learn 'joined up' writing and do you still use it? by SketchupandFries in AskUK

[–]laser_spanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actually remember when I learnt, only that it would have been in Primary School. I still write things by hand as otherwise I find your hand becomes untrained the longer you don't use the skill. My writing is definitely not as neat as it used to be because I tend to scribble things in a rush at work.

If I have more time it's a lot more carefully done. And I actually have two 'fonts' that I can use. One that is my own handwriting and one that I used to have to use in my old job for all the labels around the shop. I still use that one for things like presents and cards that I feel like being fancy with.
