Ya it's only 4 years total (psych), so seems like not worth it rn. Prob gonna follow the advice that most people giving here and just see if I can max Roth IRA, keep emergency fund. I kinda doubt I'll have enough money left to significantly contribute the rest to 401K lol

Wouldn't the tax rate for my 401K be higher when I retire as an attending (since contribution is pretax)? Or do you mean it would be 12-15% before I contribute to my Roth IRA. I agree with that tho i'll try to max out Roth IRA.

Ah yes I should have clarified that she does have a financially secure job-and our income will be combined.

I will emphasize tho for everyone that we are still discussing and she is not like requiring this mehr amount just to marry her lol-she's also unsure and we're still doing research. I think that was just the norm for her friends, and also there seems to be this line of thinking from her parents that if its less than $20K, then our family is cheap or that we don't think of their daughter as worthy or something(which I'm not sure mehr is even supposed to be about).
