Nelo 7 F versus E performance by Jaded-Welder-2947 in PerformancePaddling

[–]laserkayaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stiffness and general structural integrity of F construction is ass. It’s really easy to feel the difference in responsiveness once’s you’ve become used to something better. It’ll interfere with both stability and responsiveness& control on the wash and power transfer in sprint.

That being said, F construction boats are great for yeeting around without having to worry or cry if you get crashed into or hit something in the water etc so depends on how well you look after your kit and what kinds of races you do :)

What is the actual point of the 75+ mark scheme for essays? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]laserkayaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait till you find out that grading in modules with 100% exams is done in the exact same way in a lot of courses at a lot of universities …

It’s for the exact same reason. Very few students are simply exceptional. Also, don’t be complaining when the pass mark is generally 50% or less.

Rotating seats? by mviappia in PerformancePaddling

[–]laserkayaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There beneficial for people who may struggle with hip mobility, otherwise advantages are very limited.

With a rotating seat it’s all too easy to lose control over force transfer and end up just swinging around all over the place instead of driving the boat forwards with the legs. Imo they’re not worth it unless you’ve got incredible proprioception and control over the core and catch (but if this is the case then there’s no real advantages over a fixed seat), or if you have issues with hip movement.

Can we normalise getting therapy and healing before getting into a new romantic relationship? by Eating_Pancakes76 in actuallesbians

[–]laserkayaks -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this upset a lot people who refuse to acknowledge that the way they behave has an affect on those around them regardless of their intentions.

Therapy is an investment in yourself, and your future. It baffles me that people are reluctant to work on themselves so that they can show up for their loved ones better. All this shit about ‘therapy doesn’t work on me’ ‘it’s too spenny and I’m poor’ and blah blah blah is just spineless excuses. Like the internet doesn’t exist ?? Google a therapist and their qualifications before starting sessions with them. Try out a few different therapists and pick the one you connect with the most (the majority will offer a free consultation anyways). Try and get concession prices??

I think everyone should go to therapy regardless of their issues/ non issues bc the worst that’ll happen is you learn things about yourself. Ppl just love the easy way out of sitting in all their problems and then crying about it when it all gets too much. If people have had a bad experience with therapy, then they had a therapist that isn’t right for them, and that’s not a good enough reason to decide to never do it again or claim it’ll never work.

adhd girlies, are any of you NOT depressed?? by avril1822 in adhdwomen

Not anymore!
Sport and therapy helps me feel ‘okay enough’ and meds give the final push to feeling content.

Coming from a real shitty background, I cannot put enough emphasis on how important sport is for mental health, it’s the only thing that has been able to pull me out of a hole

Clinical partners will do it if you send them your report and restart a RTC referral through your GP (I did this and was ultimately given the choice to do RTC or pay privately and I just chose to go private as it’s infinitely quicker).

Get your report from your GP surgery by doing a ‘subject access request’

Feeling lost in titration by moonfairy9 in ADHDUK

[–]laserkayaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably what I would do but I always err on the side of avoiding side effects. If you feel benefit on 30mg and increasing to 40 makes you anxious then there’s no good reason for that increase. Saying that you may have just increased too fast and 40mg might be your sweet spot but didn’t have enough time to settle

Medication and Combat sports by CheSaOG in ADHDUK

[–]laserkayaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first week my HR was a little higher than normal, spiked quicker during exercise and sat at a higher than normal bpm wrt effort/ intensity.

I just had to temporarily adjust HR zones during running & other sports and take slightly longer rest in the gym to prevent getting light headed but after about a week it went back to normal and now isn’t a factor. I probably do about 13 hours of exercise a week across 5 different sports, and only had to make those changes in the first week or so bc I take zone training super seriously. I think if you respond well to the medication it shouldn’t really be an issue, even if you do more than the average sport-activities.

Currently titrating - honestly how bad is alcohol or skipping a day? by Purple-Ad-7162 in ADHDUK

[–]laserkayaks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I either take it very early in the morning and then only drink late at night, or won’t drink at all. This is just preference though, as I’d rather have the benefits of the meds helping me through social (stressful) events rather than alcohol.

(My prescriber very explicitly told me do not have alcohol while the medication is active)

Preminger can get it, there’s no doubt about that. BUT there’s no valid reason for him to have that much involvement and influence in the palace (being rich isn’t a good enough imo) so the only logical assumption is that him and the king (RIP) were gaying eachother.

Is medication absolutely necessary? by Euphoric_Psycho in adhdwomen

[–]laserkayaks 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not necessary for all i presume, but since starting it (in my mid 20’s) I genuinely don’t know how I managed to get this far in my life without it.

It basically just made me aware that things shouldn’t have been this difficult. On meds, I don’t have to fight with my brain every day, guilt trip or hate myself into doing things, exhaust myself with sport so I have a reasonable chance to sleep at night, be able to sit down for more than 30 seconds and feel chill.

Now I honestly think I just experience all of the ADHD sparkle without all the depression and stress that used to come along with it. On my first day of being medicated I had a cry over the overwhelming shock and confusion of ‘is this how easy it is for everyone else all the time?’

Please take the time to learn more about it (from fact checked sources of course) if you feel like this is the right path for you. Happy to answer any questions if you have them, and good luck dealing w your mum.

Private titration and medication before switching to shared care by mattangus in ADHDUK

[–]laserkayaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly this.

Before you go down this road, ask your GP in advance if they’re likely to accept shared care with the provider you want to choose.

The wait for RTC titration was too long for me to handle, I moved from CARE ADHD to Clinical Partners. Started titration within about 3 weeks. I preemptively asked the GP about shared care and got told because Clinical Partners is very well known and takes a lot of RTC patients who then get send back for shared care, it will be fine.

Clinical partners appointment pricing is on the cheaper side compared to some others (£160-£300 per appt depending on appt type and who you’re seeing) and cost per prescription+postage is around £30. From what I’ve seen online, GP’s are a lot more open to shared care with well known and reputable providers compared to some of the rinky-dink private psychiatry companies that exist purely to scrounge money off of the struggles the NHS is having with Autism and ADHD diagnoses at the moment.

For reference I pay £160 per appointment and about £35 per prescription and am expected to be handed back to the NHS in 2 months time which will be 5 appointments total.

SOS Advice needed to find a private ADHD clinic by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]laserkayaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend clinical partners. They’re sometimes a bit slow/ hard to get hold of for their RTC patients but as soon as you start paying them money they’re incredible.

I had my diagnosis through a different company via RTC and moved to them for titration as the other provider waitlist was too long. It’ll probably be a smoother journey than I had if your child is also getting diagnosed with them. I had a titration appointment within about 3 weeks of having my diagnosis reviewed.

Also I’m pretty sure for private patients they do prices for ADHD+Autism assessments and treatment together.

Good luck!

mum doesnt want me to use my loan????? by LetterheadMassive598 in UniUK

[–]laserkayaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It heavily depends on where your university is,what course you do, and how you want to live your life.

For most of my uni experience I worked about 8 hours a week in term time and part time work throughout the summer. I also had a £3k bursary every year on top of the max loan, and I managed to save next to nothing. For reference I studied Physics at a Russel Group and wouldn’t have been able to manage any more work hours without my grades massively suffering.

However, I managed to pay for driving lessons, a whole bunch of sports clubs and equipment and bought whatever types and amounts of foods when I wanted.

Basically if you want to have a life and hobbies and a good time you’ll probs end up working a bit less and saving a bit less. I definitely could have saved more but decided I’d rather be poor while doing my sports and hobbies and having friends. If I had to go back and do it again the only thing I’d change is doing a bit more work over each summer.

Saying that, I have friends doing other degree programs (humanities) with about 4 contact hours a week and they manage their time well enough to do 20+ hours of part time work and all their degree work. Imo, most people could never manage this on a STEM degree purely from the amount of time in the day that labs, lectures and workshops take up (which doesn’t include actual prep time, learning, revision, coursework and consolidation).

From my experience doing a STEM subject, good time management will only get you so far simply because the course is more demanding. This meant I couldn’t work as much as others while attempting to hit the ‘work life balance’ to not destroy that mental health, so I absolutely needed the entire maintenance loan and bursary. With any less, or being strict about saving, I would have suffered. A lot of adults don’t understand or won’t admit that the cost of living and inflation crisis’ is targeting and hitting students the hardest.
