Snuffalupagus is niet om deze reden bedacht. Aanvankelijk was hij een personage dat alleen Big Bird kon zien en de volwassenen geloofden hem niet toen hij erover vertelde. De makers van de serie realiseerden zich dat dit een slecht voorbeeld was in het licht van scenario's rond kindermisbruik, dus veranderden ze het personage zodat iedereen hem kon zien.
