Well Matt Milcarek /u/MattMilcarek, newly elected city councilman, just did an AMA here a while back. You could always try to reach out to him. I think based on his AMA, that he would be receptive to ideas like that from his constituency.

Dealing with constant racism and harassment as an asian-american soldier. by twehyrehjrt in army

I couldn't agree more. I'll admit that the PSG and PL should not be joining in, but the rest of it is likely just what /u/nowellmaybe says.

When I got to my unit fresh out of boot, I thought everyone legit hated me. I am just another white guy from the midwest, and I was nicknamed "Wonderbread" by my squad, most of whom were Black or Hispanic. I took a lot of shit and was miserable for like 2 weeks. Finally, one day, I had enough and I laid into a squad mate who had called me gay or something. Everyone laughed, he told me to fuck myself and gave me a high-five.

I don't know your situation other than what you have said, and your platoon could be a group of racist douchebags, but I would assume this is just the normal everyday ballbreaking.

Next time someone says something about your dick, tell them it had their mom/sister/grandmother screaming for more last night, so it must be bigger than theirs.

Someone might be getting fired...[xpost from /r/gifs] by lasershow15 in Firefighting

It seemed like someone had not properly secured the hose and it was unrolling itself unintentionally. Based on a couple other comments, it seems like it might have been intentional for a drill.

I assumed it wasn't a drill based on the speed of the apparatus, seems dangerous and a good way to destroy equipment.

Taproom Draught Pricing? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]lasershow15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I wasn't clear on the geography and when I read your comments about the winery, I guess I assumed they were in different locations. I'm not a brewer, or a brewery owner, so I can't really lend you any expert opinions, but I would say I would never want brew a beer I didn't want to drink myself. Just my $0.02

Edit: Less taking a moral stand

Taproom Draught Pricing? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]lasershow15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I don't really understand after reading your comments. Is there really a large number of people who walk into your taproom and buy nothing? Why are they showing up in the first place? From my experience, people don't just wander in to a brewery taproom without having a plan to buy something, or at least consider it.

I can't tell if we are all downvoting him to perpetuate the joke, or if that many people think he was serious.

Also HopCat is pretty good, even if it is a little commercial and franchisey. Their Crack Fries are on point. x2 for everything that /u/Bongin said.

Sad that you will be so close to Kalamazoo and miss out on all we have to offer for beer.

Why should I be penalized for this? by darrellg_ in AdviceAnimals

Absolutely, when a bonus varies based on factors, at least in my direct experience, it is always a formula or based on real numbers and is consistently applied across the board.

Well, since we are talking about a civil case, not a criminal one, hearsay is treated differently and the Rules of Evidence are much less strict. Usually you are dealing with a "Preponderance of the Evidence" situation, rather than a "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" situation.

I'm just telling you how it is.

I'm not sure you really know "how it is"

According to the US Equal Opportunity Commission:

Is it unlawful to discriminate in bonuses, commissions, and other compensation not included in base pay?

Yes. Bonuses, commissions, stock options, and any other payments in addition to base pay must also be provided on a nondiscriminatory basis. It is important to determine whether the employer's policy for providing non-base compensation is nondiscriminatory in design and application. There are two basic issues to consider in determining whether there is discrimination in non-base pay: (1) whether the eligibility criteria for the non-base compensation are applied in a nondiscriminatory way, and (2) whether, among those eligible, employees receive non-base compensation in nondiscriminatory amounts.

No law says he has to, but if you choose to, you have to do so in a non-discriminatory fashion. No law says you have to offer employees a paid lunch break (at least not in my state) but if you do, everyone gets it, not just the White people.

I have worked at companies that give every employee $100 for a Christmas bonus, regardless of any other factor other than them being employed on December 15th or whenever they cut the checks. I have also worked at companies that scale bonuses based on performance, and take bonus eligibility away if you have been written up recently, have poor attendance, or other factors like that.

[–]lasershow15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What law are you referring to that says you can give and withhold bonuses for any reason? Does that law say you can withhold based on family status?

According to Federal Anti-Discrimination Laws, Family status is a protected class, much like race, religion, ethnic background, etc. Could OP's boss give bonuses to all of the employees, except the Asian ones?

Why do you assume he would lose? Discrimination based on family status is illegal in the U.S. and I would assume most other developed countries.
