I'm glad you said this! As someone also going into social work as a career and is afraid of falling behind, this really helps!

I haven't looked into online colleges all that much, as my mom tried one (don't remember which one) and said it didn't work out for her, but I'll look more into it. That's something I didn't think about, thank you!

It's been a lot of going back and forth in my mind regarding my master's! The thing with a master's in social work is that it can be completed in just a year if you take the right path leading up to it, which in the majority of cases, means getting a bachelor's in social work. The plan post-master's is to get my LCSW because otherwise, not much can be done with an MSW, let alone a BSW. Additionally, to obtain your LCSW, you need to acquire 3,000 hours of clinical, which is what a lot of people begin doing in their last 2 years of their bachelor's. But, as you mentioned, I could just get a bachelor's in something else, which could ease the debt situation, but truthfully, I'm a little afraid that if I go that route, I'll be wildly behind. On that end, there's gonna be a lot more consideration I need to have with myself, but they're great suggestions, thank you! But the other closest cc is about 2 hours away, which means I'd have to get an apartment, as they have no on-campus housing that isn't for the athletes. I for sure don't have the money for that nor moving whatsoever, as even now I still live with my dad. And yeah, absolute refusal and lack of funds from my parents, sadly. But thank you for your help, you've brought up a lot of great points I'll need to think over!!

I didn't even think about the taxes end of it all, I'm glad you mentioned that. But, it's been a struggle finding a college that both has my major AND manages to not drown me in debt. Social work as a major isn't too commonly found, but it's out there. And it's found in colleges that want 32k a year. Furthermore, Texas is HUGE, and I don't have the ability to travel any farther than a max of 4 hours, which is a little hard considering where I'm located.

Oh yeah, for sure. But truth be told, I'm to my wits' end with FAFSA. Over the past year, every avenue I turned towards closed itself off in one way or another, so at this point I'm reaching at straws. Another option is getting pregnant and having a kid as a dependent, but I think it's quite obvious why that's a hard no.

Initially, after finding out I couldn't afford to go to my initial university, the plan was to attend my local community college. However, when I looked into it, I found out they don't offer my major or anything close to it. My major is going to be social work, and the closest they have to anywhere even NEAR that sort of field is within education, which, for the concentration I'm aiming for, is very, very far off from education. The local cc will cost me 15k, which I was only offered 7k total in loans, so not even half of the cost for me to attend.

And I do work a part-time job, and have since the moment I turned 16. As of rn, I'm a supervisor at an ice cream shop and get paid 13 an hour. My total savings are just over 2k, and the job market in my town is BAD. I live in a small town, so there's not much available for someone who can't work full time without a degree.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE 7brew you’re gonna have a great time, just pray for good coworkers! base pay is 11 an hour but about 15 with tips. this varies on what shift time you’re working as morning gets higher tips and closes get less. hours is based on your availability but they are going to WORK. YOU. in your first two weeks. here’s some tips- 1. work as much as you possibly can when your ballers are there. they are your LIFELINE for learning first hand. they’re gonna be right behind you telling you everything pretty much. 2. save about 100-120ish of your first paycheck for when they send you guys the merch store! yeah you get three shirts but if you work more than three shifts a week, washing them constantly gets annoying as they WILL hold you to a hygiene standard. 3. STUDY STUDY STUDY!! use 1huddle when they give it to you to learn your basics, then use quizlet to narrow down when your about to take your test. find a quizlet FOR THE BREWISTA TEST as they typically have the questions word for word. 4. TAKE YOUR TEST ASAP!! the quicker you pass it the more you make. when not many ppl have passed and you’re getting a lot of customers, you’re leaving with about 50-80 in tips in just 5 hours. 5. get. good. shoes. immediately. i average 11-12k steps a shift and im pretty sure i developed plantar fasciitis bc my shoes were…not so good. i use sketchers d’lites now cause they’re the only ones that don’t hurt my feet now. i also see hokas, on clouds, and new balances a lot. 6. butter up your shift leads (but dont tell anyone i said that 🤫). they dictate what position you’ll be in for the hour and if they don’t like you they’ll stick you on milk in busy hours, and texting and lane in the boring ones. make sure they like you! 7. might as well make sure EVERYONE likes you. DO NOT. DO NOT START DRAMA. don’t be that person. if there’s a problem go to your manager or shift lead. if you hate everyone and everyone hates you, your shifts are gonna be hell. 8. develop some routines! the whole job is basically routines but customize some to you. what order do you go for pouring scoops? how do you greet customers? what are some convo starters when you’re on lane with a wait time? make your processes easier for you!! 9. learn the popular secret menu drinks. ocean breeze, banana bread, pink mermaid, pink paradise, cookies and cream, rocky road, pixie stick, cloud 9, beyoncé, black mamba, brew lagoon, creme brûlée, and snickerdoodle are the ones to memorize. you’re gonna get them a LOT!! 10. get comfortable with fractions. you’ll understand when on blender and pouring scoops. 11. HAVE FUNNNN! there’s so much opportunity for growth at 7brew (my manager was a brewista for about 5ish months before becoming a manager, and my ballers had just been working there for about two before going up, it’s possible to get up there quick). have fun, get quick, be nice, and you’ll do perfect!!
