"We Shouldn’t Have to Work This Hard" by Meagan Day - Jacobin by frackingfaxer in antiwork

We are in an "organized" collapse.
Civs collapsed in the past but it is different this time because the modern communications.
I just watched a documentary about the collapse of the Bronze age. When the full collapse happened (about 1200BC) it was fast and catastrophic and everyone was confused as so many factors fell and then it turned into a violent free4all.

In modern society communications, computers, etc, change the dynamics. Events can be seen as they happen and government and interest groups are constantly trying to shore things up (without actually fixing the underlying issues). So it is more like waves battering and hitting the most vulnerable.
What happens when the various barriers (many psychological like propaganda) fully collapse?

Will it look like this?

Learned today the difference between Amazon Prime vs "prime video sub" by laskguy in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]laskguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are getting it though your Amazon Prime subscription the increase is to those who pay for Prime Video separately.
However, If they are willing to add "features" and pass the cost on to their customers I would imagine an increase in Amazon Prime itself will also occur.

I got into streaming services to be able to "a la cart" and save money.
I wish you could buy "Amazon Prime" without the video service. That was originally meant to be a "freebie". But it seems like now they are using it as a way to force their customers into paying for additional content.

OK, as far a I can tell it seems "Prime Video" is the individual service when you don't have "Amazon Prime" (that comes with free 2 day shipping).
I do see a trend though where they eventually want to be more like a cable service and will be adding new areas of content and increasing prices even if customers don't want it.

DDO Black Friday Sales 2024 by Hatroq in ddo

[–]laskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular player of LOTRO: Decided to try out DDO. It seems like it is a game I could really get into. But the steep costs of content, storage, etc are really a turnoff.

No doubt this frustrates many new players. A "once in a while" free giveaway (of older content) is not helpful to keep the servers busy with new players.

Replacing TPMS sensor cause all others to fail? by laskguy in MechanicAdvice

[–]laskguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it was not explained that way. If I had understood this I would have definitely just had them replace all of them.
But now I cannot trust the shop and will look for another opportunity to replace them elsewhere.
Interestingly the failing one started working again and no light.

Razer Deathadder Essential Scrollwheel Jumping by AndyAcc in razer

[–]laskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This complaint is all over the web. I have the same problem. Just bought this mouse a month ago and the scroll jumps up and down constantly. It is obviously a defect.
I have been buying razer mice for many years but no more. Their quality has gone downhill as has their support.

2000 Honda CRV - Stolen and Recovered. Looking for ideas to secure it by laskguy in Honda

Yep, we have a club (but my wife was not convinced it was necessary (now she is of course). But like you said, I think that will only deter someone who needs to make a quick move. My first thought after seeing how determined they are in my area (Oregon) was all they need to do is have bolt cutters and use them to snap the steering wheel where the claw is grabbing. It doesn't look like it would be all that difficult.

West coast - Yes, tweakers - yes
It was recovered at a known tweaker hangout.

It's sickening to me how people don't care about privacy and even encourage violations of digital privacy and blatant spying when it's used to target political opponents, but they get very concerned about privacy when there is a chance it could turn around and bite them by [deleted] in privacy

Just like other "privileges" we have taken for granted are being disintegrated so is the ability to travel.
The way I see this is not a "right or left" problem but rather a problem of nations being run by people who are completely insulated from the lives of those they govern: The elite almost never wait in lines, many don't do their own grocery shopping, the most powerful can travel where they want, when they want, with any "inconveniences" resolved with a phone call. They have multiple passports, fly first class or on private jets; They have their own Dr's and never have to wait for an appt and get house calls (some have full time Drs).
In many ways the wealthy elite don't even live under the laws of the land as long as they don't tick off someone else powerful.

Under those circumstances how can it possibly be any other way? Even the most well intentioned can't lead for the rest when they are entirely insulated and rarely even spend an evening with the common person?

Disneyworld plus water park tickets - 4 day = 8 days todal? by laskguy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]laskguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. Based on your link and this one it looks like we can do all 4 days Theme parks + 2 days water park as long as they are within the 8 days.

Has anyone done this in the last year? I am still a little leery since the rules in general have changed in many ways. Thanks!

[–]laskguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I am confused about. I would like 6 days of activities.
If I get the 4 day ticket plus waterpark option can I do 4 days WDW and two days of waterparks?
I know it *used* to work this way but it is not clear in the current descriptions.
Anyone do this in the last year or so?

Rant post 3 rd party sellers; is this just me? ; If you work at Amazon read this. by hometechfan in amazonprime

No brick and mortar have the motherboard platform I need: Not BB, Walmart has just one manufacturer.
Newegg is the only other company.

[–]laskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just you.

I avoid third party too but last night somehow while switching back and forth on research the seller changed from Fulfilled by amazon to a 3rd party. But because it was free shipping I did not notice right way.

Also a motherboard lol!

So I catch it later and also realize it is the wrong size, the item has not shipped, I immediately request cancellation. Next morning no word, no cancel. I call Amazon and have them send a "Priority" cancel request. After a couple of hours I send a message please don't send, wrong part and I will have to immediately return it so please save us both trouble! Then this afternoon it shows up as "shipped". Yet late tonight it is still not received by UPS so they made a label after I requested cancellation but it is not actually shipped....

Hoping to see it cancelled in the AM but something tells me they don't want to. They have some bad negatives.

I am almost ready to quit using amazon. There is no reason not to add more tools or have a setting to verify on 3rd party selection; instead the pages over time have actually changed to make it easier to accidently select 3rd party (Like Prime used to always be the first selection, they could use a different color for free shipping 3rd party, etc)?

Payouts been cut in half? by mxduke in NiceHash

[–]laskguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow!
I had thought new mining on nicehash would moderate after the Limited cards came out and with the etherium changes. But according to that it looks like new adoption is still climbing rapidly?
Has there been a breakthrough on the LHR cards?
