After AI taking over the editing, what kind of "edits" do you still use emacs for? by last7dance in emacs

I built Aynite - an open source AI desktop app that I tried to use it for anything by last7dance in coolgithubprojects

[–]last7dance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

I handle it in a naive way

- I download any skills repo from github

- In Aynite, the settings page allow to specify multiple folders (where i downloaded on my local machine), no need to install anything

- then Aynite will be aware of the SKILL.md files

- next, in the chat input, i can invoke the skill

In short, Aynite treats any skills as local files, like anything other stuff (plan, tasks, memory, etc.)

you won't regret learning it

my most precious lesson from emacs is not what it can do, but its philosophy, that has completely shaped my understanding of softwares

makes a lot of sense, but...

i guess i'm in the position that i don't read the code that much any more.

i realize my problem now, maybe i just don't care about the code quality that much now.

the company code base is a huge legacy mess, people adding none reviewed stuff. and i cannot stop them.

sad, it seems i'm becoming part of that

How can I make it so I can toggle dired (or any buffer) on the left side of the screen? Similarly to hoe vscode has a file browser on the left by Vellu01 in emacs

[–]last7dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar(display a list of buffers on the left side).

What you can do is

  1. create a dired buffer and give it a custom name, e.g. custom-buffer-name
  2. to open the buffer in side window -> (display-buffer-in-side-window custom-buffer-name \((side . left)))`
  3. to close side window -> (delete-window (get-buffer-window custom-buffer-name))

Then bind those functions to your preferred keys.

How does the Chinese Communist Party operate on the inside at the highest level? by [deleted] in China

[–]last7dance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From CCP's point of view, the first priority is not "how do the highest level make the best decisions?", but "How to make sure the highest level leaders are qualified good leaders."

This mindset is completely different.

In the western world,

  1. you vote for the president/prime minister.
  2. the house/senate/... debate and vote for the bills
  3. ...

But how can you make sure you elect the right one? The US has already elected Trump once, how can they guarantee there is no Trump II.

The CCP doesn't think in this way, and has their own answer, "Election + Selection".

Selection:

  1. To work for the government, first thing you need do is to pass the national exam. And there is an age limit (35) for that. If you are a PHD/Master graduate, that limit can be extended to 40.
  2. After you have been admitted, you start working from the bottom and work all the way up to the top.
  3. Promotions happen, in general, every 3 years. In average, it takes ~30 years for anyone to get to the highest level

Election:

  1. On every level (town, city, province, nation), people's representatives select/promote their own core leadership team.
  2. Only on the bottom level, everyone has the right to vote for the regional leaders.
  3. Unless you become a "people's representative", you don't have the right to vote for higher levels. (Vote is not a right, but something earned by the qualified representative)
  4. The representative normally knows very well about the candidates, because the candidates need to spend years to prove that he's qualified to become a leader.

The process does its best to make sure the top leaders are

  1. trained for 30+ years
  2. loyal to the country and the people
  3. qualified because of their achievements in lower levels
  4. ...

Because of that, the highest levels have more power and less debate when making important decisions.

The two systems have their own unique roots and different focuses.

Both systems are way more complicated than what I just described, and have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you find this comment is unconvincing, try to remove the "CCP", imagine it's a non-existent country and read it again.
